  1. If they don't like what their making they should just quit and work somewhere else... Isn't that the republican rational I heard recently when talking about Walmart...
  2. I disagree wholeheartedly. Do you work for free? No. You want to make the most that you can. The profit motive is the inducement for doing thing better. Really, please explain how private prison system who's main incentive it is to make money can benefit the public. The aim of prison system should be rehabilitation and not the most cost effective punishment possible. The same goes for news, news should be unbiased and not sold to the highest bidder. Law enforcement, so you would be ok with ticket quotas, that guarantee a profit for the private police force. I cannot think of a bigger incentive for corruption than a private police. Would the private police go arrest their largest stock holder? Think this through for minute please....
  3. I've heard good things about http://www.democracynow.org/. I haven't really compared it to other single sources since I use news aggregators with lots of sources...
  4. I know where you are coming from, I am also critical of the system because you not only pay for news but also for entertainment and for example the soccer world cup to be freely available. The details of the whole setup would require a super long explanation. The news is not biased, that is the whole idea of "öffentlich rechtlich". It guaranties unbiased information which is essential for a functioning democracy. The Tageschau, the 8 o' clock news is the most watched program on German TV. I think this is a really good system and I also think citizens should have to pay their democracy tax. I personally don't think you would pay a damn cent for unbiased news if you are not forced to...
  5. That is a perfect example of false equivalence, the reason dog fights are so frowned upon is because dogs are severely mistreated, bred only to fight and put down after loosing or being injured. Which life form suffers life threatening injuries and death from the office super bowl pool? I agree that rodeo is bad for the animals - though the bulls are not trained and made purposely aggressive to fight to the death. I hope you can see the difference.
  6. In Germany we have the so called "Öffentliche Rechtliche Medien" every household has to pay about 17 EUR a month(this is about 7billion EUR a year). This money guaranties ad-less and unbiased news on TV and radio. It's taken very seriously, the Aid of minister was fired because tried to stop the airing of a documentary on a "öffentlich rechtliche" channel where his minister was not portrayed optimally. Obviously there are some problems with this system. But we don't have the partisan bullshit media that the US has.
  7. No one's saying Wal*Mart is king here. Least of all me... So, you don't like the real shit.... so you go find something tangential to your original post to support it. You should be on "Dancing with the Stars" with that kind of side step. Why don't you just come out with a "top ten list" of reasons to hate Wal*Mart and include your own reasons for beating this drum and be done with it. Quote You are right the article was bad. I have no defense.
  8. The Walmart Spokesperson.... OMFG... Here is another example of how great Walmart is: http://www.thenation.com/article/177254/labor-board-sides-workers-walmart-cant-silence-employees-any-longer
  9. Here is some perspective for you: http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-06-03/are-american-taxpayers-subsidizing-walmarts-low-wages That people continue to work for corps. like Walmart proves more than anything else that people do not want to depend on welfare but want to work. Given their useless high school education or lack thereof and no marketable skills, they have no alternative than to work in dead end jobs that often do not pay a living wage. This is a fault of policy as much as it is a fault of the corporations. But don't forget that policy is vastly influenced by highly paid corporate lobbyists and campaign donations. Sadly, a lot of the people depending on welfare because their jobs don't pay enough will do anything get that socialist bastard Obummer out of office and to render unions powerless.
  10. Yeah I have to completely agree with that. As long as woman can be legally disciplined by their husbands, are not allowed to drive and need 4 witnesses to corroborate rape, gender pronouns are not their priority. Agree as well. I think this stems a lot from an unfulfilled victim complex, and basically a bad conscience for never having experienced any oppression. Pair that with intellectual laziness, the information bubble and the circle jerk environment - BAM 3rd wave feminism.
  11. http://www.thenation.com/blog/177241/cleveland-wal-mart-holds-food-drive-its-own-employees# All these people need to stop demanding handouts and need to take some personal responsibility.
  12. Hello Meso, I've also been following the social justice warrior movement with some interest, not only the feminism... I just don't know how serious to take it. Does this really have an effect on people outside of the tumblr circlejerk? There are arguably harmful movements such as HAES(Health at every size). I also think, that the special snowflake syndrome is very prevalent(Otherkin, Multiple systems, etc). Self diagnosed mental issues such as aspergers and sexual identity disorder are conveniently used to claim oppression. They assign themselves special personal pronouns such as xir, zir, they. I suggest you google headmates... How many of you have heard of a pansexual? Btw. nobody on tumblr can even agree on what exactly that is... There are of course other gems. Reverse racism, rape culture, internalized misogyny. Oh yeah, gender is completely a social construct. Almost all of these 3rd wave feminists have in common that they are white middle class and have never suffered any form of abuse whatsoever. Here is a great example of how Social Justice Warriors have skewed the view of the general population with overboard political correctness. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/nov/05/female-genital-mutilation-fgm-child-abuse-british-girls The question I would like to answer is how does this 3rd wave feminism manifest itself in the real world outside of tumblr and reddit?
  13. The fault in the logic is simple. Iran is a defacto unstable Regime. If people that are not worried about retaliation(since they will go to heaven) have nuclear weapon capability. The whole stand off argument falls to pieces. Further, I can't remember an Israeli or US president denying Irans right to existence. So much for aggression. Not all countries are the same... And not all countries can be treated the same.
  14. To be fair, Cape Town is on the list, there are several no go areas and a really high crime rate... I don't think safety was concern when this list was compiled.
  15. Thats true ! And very confusing, I once wanted to wire 100 Eur it ended up being interpreted as 10000. The bank called, asked if I was serious...
  16. Only in America do people consistently vote against their own interests. Obamacare is another great example at which the civilized world only shakes it's head.
  17. Only in the very short term.... Herd immunity only works when the herd is immune. See the outbreak of Polio in Syria for example.
  18. http://www.forbes.com/sites/richardlevick/2013/11/07/colorado-rejects-fracking-the-moneys-not-talking-social-media-is/ I don't want to discuss if fracking is safe but the potential power of social media and Internet opinion manipulation. On one hand it could be a positive form of direct democracy on other hand exactly the same social media tactics are used to speak out against vaccines.... Is this good or bad?
  19. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/05/income-inequality-crisis_n_4221012.html If you want more money, you need to take personal responsibility.

  21. Valiantly poisoned. http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/28/4771164/the-next-agent-orange-why-burn-pits-are-making-soldiers-sick
  22. If you want to make a point, stop posting crock bullshit opinion pieces that nobody cares enough about to refute. There are tons of the same partisan bullshit blogs for the democratic side, these are not posted due the inherently bad quality and them not furthering discussion in any way. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/oct/22/gop-loses-more-young-minority-and-female-voters-af/ This is something with a few more facts and could be basis for a discussion, a right wing circle jerk is not.
  23. Actually there are still tons of jobs that you describe(fruit picking, construction, yard work), just most of them are done out of sight by the so called illegals.
  24. And again you apparently don't know the Bible half as well as the atheists on this forum. If god doesn't give disease, please explain: Ex. 9:8–12. Lots salt wife was good and perfect as well? There are countless examples of a cruel God in the old testament, but you know that better than I do I bet... I think you will find a way to wiesel God out of this by theological apologism or some other semantic trick. Looking forward to that.
