I smell a seven game series! Yea baby! Elvisio "watcher of hockey" Rodriguez

OK, good game so far but here's my rant: I know we're stuck with the little scoreboard with the ABC logo in the upper left corner. But do we ALSO need the ABC logo in the lower right corner, AND the LOCAL affiliate's letters on top of that? This ties in with my previous rant (actually it's own thread) about commercials and previews before movies in the theaters. There's a point when the commercialism simply overrides the sports event, movie, or whatever it is supposed to be "sponsoring". Must win for Tampa. Chips are already stacked against them, winning three out of four against Calgary is a tough row to hoe. We shall see... We shall also see how ABC does with the coverage... in the past the only network to whose coverage I've ever given an enthusiastic thumbs DOWN was Fox. Elvisio "I said hoe" Rodriguez

The best defense is a good offense. Before you crash after a night of drinking: 2 BIG bottles of water 4 Advil or similar 2 one-a-day vitamins I leave all this sitting ON MY PILLOW along with my contact case (I HATE sleeping with my contacts in). It's AMAZING how well this works. The water and advil are a must, the vitamins are secondary but do help too. If it's too late, the next morning has arrived (and I'm not jumping or working): 3 bottles water 1 beer (or whatever you drink) 4 advil 2 multivatimins Keep up the 3 to 1 ratio of water to beer for as long as it's necessary... seems to be the right combination of "hair of the dog" and rehydration. This is Elvisio's "how the f**k is he bouncing around like that after all the stupid stuff he drank and stupid stuff he did last night" cure-all. Coming soon to the 2004 WFFC! Memorial Day Boogie (cross posted from the BASE Board)
skydiver30960 replied to JohnnyUtah's topic in Archive
Hey everybody, it's Thursday afternoon so some/most of you may already be on the way, but: HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! Be safe, have fun, and hopefully I'll see you all there next year! Elvisio "takin' it slow" Rodriguez -
See what I mean? DO YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN? Elvisio "tattoos are fun" Rodriguez

Ah, so true. I find boogies can be SO much more exciting, and damaging to my liver and self respect, when the weather is bad. Of course, why the hell do we go to boogies in the first place? To SKYDIVE? Hell, I can do that at home. I'm there to hang with buddies and party. ...thing is, at a boogie the periods of skydiving allow the body to recover from the partying. When the weather is bad that recovery period is lost and a wicked sort of "partytime feedback loop" is established... Elvisio "hair of the dog" Rodriguez

Parafoil Design for FS-2004 flight sim fans

I don't have FS 2004 but I still think it's a riot that somebody took the time to do this! Schweet! Next, we need somebody to model Luigi Cani flying that 39 squarefooter! Elvisio "virtual swooping rocks" Rodriguez -
Just run the tutorial, the little dancing and singing paperclip will solve all your problems... I can't wait until the next Windows OS comes out so that my computer can crash and corrupt data even MORE efficiently!

It's the only modern-day canopy I've heard of so far, but a guy I jumped with in Kentucky was jumping (I THINK) an Icarus 330 Tandem canopy on which you DIDN'T set the brakes before packing. He said "wanna watch me set my brakes?" ... then he shoved the toggles into the keepers and went right on packing. On the risers it had a patch that said "no brake settings on this canopy" or something to that effect. It was something different... Elvisio "muddying the waters" Rodriguez

thanks to all DZdotcommers for the word...

ASSHAT! I love it! It rolls off the tongue so nicely. I'd never heard it before, but after seeing it in a few DZ.com posts it has burrowed nicely into my vocabulary and has found what is probably a permanent home. Thank you all once more; Elvisio "Webster ain't got nothing on us" Rodriguez -
Instructor Poll: "I had a student so good that they ..."
skydiver30960 replied to peek's topic in Instructors
A couple months ago we had a BIG group of tandems. Three tandem I's were working our ASSES off all weekend. No packers, just three dudes and lotsa riders! It was definitely the kind of weekend a tandem I loves. Anyhow, there was the one girl who was INCREDIBLY NERVOUS on the ground, INCREDIBLY NERVOUS in the plane, and INCREDIBLY NERVOUS during hookup. Mentally I prepared myself for the worse. There was a little hesitation at the door, but no outright "no" so out we went, my teeth gritted against the worst... and turned into the smoothest, cleanest, best tandem and video that we had all weekend. Noice. Elvisio "the whole book and cover thing" Rodriguez -
Wow, good stuff, I'm learning. You guys even made me do some homework... I don't have the complete FARs at hand but did dig out Poynter's manual cuz it has some parts of the FARs in it. Can anybody reference the actual section of the FARs that make the point that the rig needs to be maintained to our repack cycle if it carries a TSO, even if it is of foreign manufacture? Thanks! ALSO: While digging around in the Manual, I found FAR 91.15 that basically says that the pilot in command of an aircraft cannot allow the use of ANY parachute (main, reserve, TSO'd, or not TSO'd) that has not been packed in the past 120 days. No mention of TSO, no mention of domestic or foreign manufacture. FAR 91 relates more to general flight rules than skydiving (FAR 105) so it just may not have bothered to go into as much detail, but it caught my eye... The definition of a truly good compromise is a situation in which both parties feel they got less than they deserved. You're right, sounds like a case where the system actually worked... good deal. Regarding unions: there are good unions, there are bad unions, just like anything else in life. Having worked in the foundry industry for the better part of the industry, I've seen most scenarios. I've seen a union work well to the benefit of both the employees and the company, and I've seen a union misbehave and abuse the management so badly that the foundry had no choice but to close. (to tandem student) "If we get separated at any time during the dive, we'll just meet back at the hangar" "If I do good on this tandem, they'll let me jump by myself next time." At my old DZ they used to have a little "booklet" titled "Tandem Skydiving for DUMMIES". It was just a few 1/4 sheets of paper stapled together, with stuff written inside in big lettering like "DON'T DIE" and "AT SOME POINT, PULL SOMETHING" and "IF POSSIBLE, BRING STUDENT BACK WITH YOU". It was stuck in the ceiling of the Otter, and on the ride to altitude, instructors would pull out "the manual" and study it with scared looks on their face "Hey Jack, did you read this thing? We're supposed to do THAT?" Elvisio "props (both kinds) rock" Rodriguez

My first thought is that this would boost attendance to both events... But then I needed to remind myself that I'm an unemployed bastard and that most folks wouldn't be able to get two consecutive weeks off WORK (oh yeah, now I remember what "work" is) to go to both events. So while us "lucky ones" will be able to go to both events, my bet is that for most folks it'll still be a "one or the other" kind of thing... Later Elvisio "morning coffee rocks" Rodriguez

Wow, first I've heard the events being on different weeks. WOW, this is going to be SO bad for my bank account... Elvisio "cashing in my 401k early, penalties be damned" Rodriguez
