  1. 1 CAN Jason Moledzki 2 USA Nicholas Batsch 3 USA Shannon Pilcher 4 AUT Christian Wagner 5 USA Curtis Bartholomew 6 RUS Alexander Golovkin 7 BRA Marat Leiras 8 AUS Robert McMillan 9 USA Brian McNenney 10 AUS Cameron Rolfe -------------- One of my dreams has come true! A Russian name on the list of the World's Top 10 best canopy pilots! And a Silver medal in Accuracy to go along with it! Amazed at Jay Mo's ability to (once again) come from behind, take the lead and win the meet! (if you followed the live scores, you know what i mean) Very proud of all my fellow competitors!!

  3. I am sure lots of folks are following the event via Facebook updates. You can also see some pics and videos from the practice jumps and opening ceremony on this site: http://www.skycentre.net/index.php?showtopic=9341&st=40
  4. Nice, well done everyone! Matt - excellent job! Dave, you've done a great job over the years, few people can truly appreciate how hard it is to put these comps together. Too bad the NY crew couldn't support you this year by making a splash or two... had to save some cash for the Nationals. Hope you find a good person to take over the league! Best of luck and we'll see you in a few weeks.
  5. Hi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q3vL7vlPss&feature=player_embedded It's been over three years since this thread was originally posted, but the video above made me want to play with the data video overlay... Do you (or anyone else) still have that Perl script available? Or perhaps someone has come up with a better technique since then? Thanks!

  9. I dont know what the pricing will be. The canopy is still in the final stages of pre-production, with several sizes being finalized and jumped. The developer/manufacturer is trying several new things with this wing, some have not been done before in commercial x-baced parachutes. Why not PD or Icarus? I dont know. There are plenty of experienced people that have no clue that there are great wings and wing makers out there other than PD or Icarus. They are happy with the great products these two companies make and have no desire to open up their horizons when it comes to trying other parachutes, even if they are just as good (or better) and less expensive. That's perfectly fine, most people are like that. Then there are folks who like to see innovation and new wing designs driven by a competitive market. These people want to fly good wings, not just what's "in fashion" that year. They are a small minority. Entering an established cross-braced canopy market dominated my giants and getting to these pilots is not an easy task... We've seen some companies try with not much success. I am hoping Scirocco has a strong showing at the World meet next month, it's time for a new wing to make it in the market of 11 year old designs.
  10. Go argue with that one! P.S. Dave, dont you ever get tired from holding back talented new pilots and trying to stop them from achieving maximum results?
  11. There have been plenty of discussions on belly bands and longer chest straps, please use the search button. This topic was not made to discuss benefits and dangers of these devices.
  12. I don't think that holds any water. I find that controlling the canopy by grabbing both risers with each hand during the opening sequence reduces the off heading openings and/or allows to quickly stop them.
  13. A new crossbraced main canopy has been introduced to the general public at the latest Russian Canopy Piloting Nationals. Scirocco, piloted by Vsevolod Bedrin, showed some impressive results, earning him a 3rd place in Distance, 4th in Speed (sub-3 sec times) and 2nd place Overall. (Detailed results can be found here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3908284;#3908284) Canopy is made by a Ukrainian parachute equipment company Skylark http://www.skylark.com.ua/en/, whose canopies have already earned an excellent reputation. Pics attached. We will have an opportunity to jump this new wing later this season at the Ranch, cant wait to see how it compares to the Velo and JVX and how it flies at very high wingloadings (~3:1)

  15. Way to prove everyone's point. Again, looking forward to seeing your carnage videos, Mr. Statistic.
  16. Amen, buddy! Who knows you better than you?! All these old farts are jealous and trying to keep you down. Look forward to having some of your photo and video contributions to the School of Fast Progress in Downsizing and Radical Flying, they will definitely take you under "there" wing!
  17. Wrong. You need to know what you're doing to get "damn good footage". Everyone thinks their footage is good, but in reality 99% is crap. Even the good footage becomes crap when it's ruined by the nose or the goggle strap flapping in the frame, focus problems, position against the sun or something else. To recognize and know all the potential pitfalls takes a lot of jumps and time, some never get there and even with thousands of jumps with a video camera strapped to their head produce video that's dime a dozen and not worth watching. yes, no question about it. And why fight it?? Embrace the progress. Although i am sure there is some old timer at each dropzone still happily jumping a hi8 TRV, looking for a round jack RCA cable to plug into the HDTV SoFPiDaRF - School of Fast Progress in Downsizing and Radical Flying. Because nobody knows your skills better than you.
  18. Love this? Then join SoFPiDaRF - the School of Fast Progress in Downsizing and Radical Flying (on Facebook). The school has over 1000 faithful disciples. The approach to coaching and training is very progressive, they take no shortcuts trying to teach and promote canopy piloting greatness. The instructors tell you EXACTLY what YOU want to hear. Nobody is held back or frowned upon for making solid decisions on smaller canopy choices. School's motto is "Why? Because you are a grown ass man and can make your own decisions!" New pilots can find good tips and support, while old pilots can learn how to not hold the new generation back from achieving their maximum potential. It's a win-win situation - everyone learns something! BTW, some of the greatest names in swooping and skydiving are part of the school and are frequent contributors!
  19. Thanks for your reply, Johan! I am comfortable with higher wingloadings, my everyday canopy is @2.8 (admittedly, that's on x-braced canopies). But I am also very comfortable with 9-cell (sabre2) 120 sq ft @~2.1:1. Also, this would not be a canopy for CRW, it would be for wingsuits. Triathlon 135 @1.7 in my experience flew quite well, but a 99 @ 2.5 or a 120 @2 (what it would be now for me) might not... The reason i am asking the question on this forum is because i know CReW folks fly a lot of Triathlons and at rather heavy wingloadings... was hoping some were crazier than the average dawg and have tried it at this high of a loading :)
  20. Thanks for the reply, Wendy, i appreciate the input! You actually took part in the thread i mention in my op (on the swoop forum more than a year ago). I jumped a Tri-135 a few years back @ 1.6-1.7, it flew quite well actually. But I am in agreement with you suspecting that 2.3-2.5 might be a bit too much for this canopy... hoping some of the crazy CRW folks have tried it and would want to share their experience.
  21. Hello CReW dawgs. I asked the same question in the Swoop forums, but i think i may get a better reply here... Does anyone have any experience jumping smaller Triathlons at high wingloadings, 2.3-2.5 range?

  23. Some details on the suit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMexQub4QAo @1:44 - thats the stuff!! Have you ever seen Borat?
  24. Looks very interesting! Lacks the underwater capabilities and the 60 fps mode, which takes away from this little toy in my mind, but the little review screen and remote somewhat compensate for it. I would say lets all ask DSE and Trunk for a complete review/field trials and comparisons. I cant say enough how useful those were for me when it came time to get a GoPro HD.
