  1. very well put! IMO and that of many others, it was the Local and State governments who were not prepared. As stated Bush declared a State of Emergency ahead of time so funding and people could get on the scene quickly. However, due to the laws in our country, the Federal Gov can not walk into the state and have authority to do anything without the permission of the State and Local autorities. Even if (let's pretend) there were 10,000 Natl Guardsmen in NO during the storm, once it was over, they still DO NOT have the autority to act or take charge until permission is granted by the Govenor. By law, local and State police have all the autority. PERIOD. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  2. i would disagree. Here in the USA the states are independant. The Feds can not just walk in and forceably do anything. Look at the facks. Bush declared a state of emergency 2 days before the storm so $$ could be allocated for relief. Bush spoke with the Gov of LA to convince her to order a MANDITORY Evac of NO. She refused. Bush through his advisors proactively tried to eliminate the potential problem with every power he had. Unfortunately the State and Local Governments would not listen or allow his plans to be put in place. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  3. As of at least last Thursday, the head of FEMA was still publicly denying there were people in the NO convention center with no food or water. That was long after any delay the Governor made before asking for federal help. That was long after any time period when only first responders should be on the scene. Whether FEMA denigned that or not, wouldn't you still blame the local government for NOT providing food or water at either the Superdome or convention center? Weren't they supposed to do that since they are the ones who are incharge of disater preparedness? One can NOT expect that the buraucracies of the Federal Government can handle all the states problems immediately. It was upto the state and Local Governments to ask for that help. Something they did NOT do prior to the storm. However, I do recall Mr. Bush declaring a "State of Emergency" prior to landfall of Katrina so that Funds could be allocated quickly when request by the STATE. Again, this was not done. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  4. Can someone please explain to me why everyone is up in arms over the response to rescue effort in NO. Here is what I know. Saturday, Mayor Nagin ordered a volentary Evac. Sunday, Nevin ordered a Mandatory Evac of the City. He stated all that do not leave are on their own and face a strong risk of death. Nagin However, did not do his job and use city busses to evacuate those who could not leave. FEMA is NOT a first responder. The NO webpage clearly states the City official are first responders and are responsible for ALL evacuations and first responces to events. The Natn'l guard was not federalized prior to the storm (the job of the govenor) and therefore could not be put in place immediatly. So, in all seriousness, why is the Federal Gov being blamed? This Much I KNOW. I live in NY, and if a major storm was heading this way, we wouldn't have had the same problems NO is facing. Why? because our local and state governments are at least some competent. Some people are crying racism, classism...etc. The fact is the Mayor of NO is incompetent, and the Gov of LA is at the very least indecisive. The Federal Government can NOT be expected to do all the work of the state and local Governments as well as their own. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  5. Does this surprise you? ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  6. Maybe everyone missed it, but reported yesterday on CNN (Coverup News Network), Iraq oil production is up to 90% of what it was pre-war. Aprox 1.9 million barrels/day. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  7. WHo are you talking about Bill? ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  8. Yes, I read the article.... I have never said GW doesn't exist, but in the discussions we have had, I have stated, that GW is not occuring at an alarming rate, and the evidence to support that humans are ultimately the cause, is politically motivated. In past discussions you said that if anything, the politics would favor researchers finding humans were not the cause. I disagreed. What bothers me is when people quote experimental research and state the data as factual. (I am Not implicating you Bill) As of now, with all the research which has been done, one must realize there is HUGE speculation and assumptions which are made as to the continuation of or extent of GW. And, to simply say that most of the research is not politically motived or funded is naive. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  9. Again, Bill disagrees with me, but I am in the field with a research institution, and I can tell you this, a LOT of GW research is politically motivated and funded. Many researchers are Liberal minded working for liberal mided Universities, with great funding :-) ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  10. Some here, BillVon would have you believe Nothing could be wrong with these data. These mistakes (in my Professional Opinion) are inexcusable, and go to show you what type of "Real" research is being conducted here. The world is spend TRILLIONS on programs and fixes to combat GW, based on flawed data. (Flawed both ways). ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  11. I lived in MA for 22 yrs. SUre it is a liberal place, but not as liberal as it is perceived to be by out siders. Anyway, it amazes me that the fools there still vote for that Murderer election after election. He is not JFK people!!!! He is a looney!! ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  12. I see it every week. That is the funny thing with gas. Example: Oil goes from $50/brl to $55/brl in 3 days. Gas prices go from 2.10 to 2.25 in the same period. A week later oil drops back to $50.... gas doesn't move for 8 days... and when it does it drops 1-2 cents at a time. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

  15. I didn't read the whole thing... it was after all 74 pages long. But, the conclusion doesn't surprise me very much. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  16. Darius... serious question. If GWB could run again, and it was Hillary vs GWB and you HAD to choose, who would get your vote. Just curious. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  17. I agree, but where? Saudi? Iran? Not too many friendlys out there that aren't already trying to F*** us. What about Mexico??? They have oil don't they? ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  18. Let me correct myself.... The Market has not felt the effects yet. In the past, oil prices and other indexes have cause market down falls because everyone know what happens... The common guy, spends less, and it cost more to ship good. But now, the market isn't really reacting to what will happen as this continues, it is waiting for the actual number to come in. So, instead of a slow decline in the markets due to the higher prices, the markets have held their own if not gone up.... BUT, once profits start to shrink, the Market WILL react negatively. That is the scary thing... In the past they have been somewhat proactive, but it appears to be a reactive market. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  19. I think in the short term (1 yr) we will see oil hit $80/barrel, but in the next 2yrs, it will back off of that. As of now, the economy isn't really reacting to gas... No idea why. But eventually this will catch up. Once the economy begins to be impacted, something drastic will be done. You can bet this will be a campaign issuee over the next 3 yrs. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  20. WHAT???? Bill, I thought Ted Kennedy was your guy!!! Seriouly.. look at her record as a senator in NY. What has she done? Persoanlly, she scares me. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  21. I think the bigger problem in the US right now are the refinaries. Sure demand is high, but made higher by under producing refinaries or a lack of them. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  22. Bill, The people who can afford to spend 70,000 dollars on an H2 that gets 9miles/gallon are the same ones that don't really give a shit if gas is 5$/gallon. They can obviouly afford the expence. I don't think legislation is the way to go. Personal responsability is. I have vehicles. A car and a truck. When driving distances I use the subaru (28mi/gal) but when I haul stuff like wood and dirt, i use my truck (15mi/gal). In the USA, we really don't need the government legislating anything else in our personal lives. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  23. Who would you vote for, the left doesn't even want to call them illegal. Might hurt their feelings. Body... I don't know anymore. I am a republican, and I tend to vote that way. However, this border control issue is not being addressed by anyone. Shit, If i had the money and was old enough I might run We will have to wait and see what comes around in 08'. If Mrs. Clinton runs and says she'll fix the border, I still won't vote for her? Why? Well, because I live in NY, and I can not think of ONE thing she has done for this state yet as senator other than make an ass out of herself for the issue with Airt traffic Control. She allocated funding for security post 9/11, but every state did. She made a shitload of promises that she hasn't even addressed. I will vote for a third party if their adgenda is better than the Dem/Rep one. Even though it is a "wasted Vote", I need to make a stand on the issues I see as important. One of the biggest for me is the border issue. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  24. Which post are you responding to? If it is the one I think you are refering to, then yes, it is. However, when dealing with people who have no real respect for others whether they agree with them or not, I can't help but show a little dissatisfaction. I am no saint... Not by a long shot, however, I "Try" my best not to put people down or treat them like shit just because I don't agree with them. A poster in here didn't agree with the president taking a vacation.... Fine. But to call someone a shithead or dipshit, or fuckface.... Really shows what type of person they are. I was merely pointing out to them that their actions and their language cause other people to have opinions (possative and negative) about them. If this poster wanted to be taken seriously, I think he/she had the wrong approach. As to you question regarding my sig line I assume... Who do I trust.... The people and represenatives of this country, that is who. We have elected officials in office who represent the people that elected them. Sometimes we agree with them, sometimes we don't, but on the whole, they represent, in most cases, what the majority of the country wants/needs. If we disagree with the dirction the country is going, we have a good history of electing different people. Currently, it seems as if this administration is ignoring the problem on the borders of the USA. It seems to me like the people have spoke about this time and time again, yet not much is being done. If this president could be elected to a 3rd term, he would not get my vote, primarily due to the fact that he is unwilling to fix the border situation. I think that the PEOPLE and ultimately the Elected OFFICIALS, will fix this border problem because that is what most of the nation wants. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
