  1. not very practical advice. i should have known. for some reason I thought that my fellow jumpers would have the answer to this one - if any at all.
  2. Not a detective really. He is just a PARANOID person. Very cautious of everything. It has been very difficult to deal with him over the years. Which is precisely why I am not on the day shift with him. We co-exist, in the same departement, during different hours. I want to go to NYC tonight (after work) to visit a friend for at least a day. I am thinking of just saying that my friend, in the city is in need of help moving out of her apartment and that the truck that was lined up was not available - so she called me and asked if I could help out.
  3. Ok, some more details on this. I work 4-midnight. Boss is not here right now. I have to call him at home. I work Tuesday through Saturday so the Friday thing is a non-issue. Help. help. help.

    Olav?

How ironic is it that your nickname on here is "SkyDolphin"? Just jokin dude! Chill. I can agree with you here a little bit. I just feel like he has the "power" to do more good for the sport. Instead, the father of freefly (TM) chooses to develop the sport in a proprietary way.
  5. Hate to say this, but cold-turkey is the only way that I know of. I have quit smoking (or chewing tobacco) about three times for over 5 years each time and that is how I did it. Obviously, it wasn't perminent, but it worked for the most part. LOL
  6. Most of those are sarcastic. The one about taking Mother to the doctor is good. But it needs a little spice or something.
  7. They know that I do not have a girl living in my home. ...And yes, I am straight (not gay). Not sure that would work either. Let's brainstorm some good ones!!!
  8. Hey Guys, Help me out here please!! I need a really good excuse to get out of work tomorrow ...and my boss is a real dick-tracy if you know what I mean. Lay them on me fast. Thanks!!!!
  9. Oh my god, that SUCKS!!! No way that dude was NOT feeling pain after that skydive. Hope that will not happen in head down when I try it. Atr 120mph, maybe, at 170mph - OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. This is VERY similar to what I went through also. Laughing and very expressive because of nervousness all the way to altitude in a Cessna 206 (about 45 minutes) at Sussex. This goes back a bunch of years, but I can actually remember Mike Hagar saying to another Tandem-Master, "Isn't it funny when people are nervous how they laugh at everything they hear." LOL He was directly referring to me of course. My girlfriend, at the time, went out first. I remember thinking, 'wow, it's been a while since I was single. that's weird.. ' Of I went... petrified until we hit terminal...and then my eyes were opened to a new world...
  11. Cool! Sounds like you guys had a good time and gained some serious skills. Sorry that I had to miss that event. Yeah, Jimmy rocks!...he's just a great, all-around, skydiver. I think that they may be coming to Crosskeys soon; someone was telling me about this anyway. Hope it's true.
  12. Yeah, he is actually at about 2k when he finally chops. And then the commentator says he's at 500...450...400...etc., but yeah, that is bullshit. His reserve isn't fully inflated until below 500 though. So, it isn't really that much of an exageration. That dude oughta thank his lucky stars. I think what pisses me off more is that they actually edited the video to reflect that, while he was lying on the ground, he was ACTUALLY seeing double or triple. Whatever!
  13. Today, I saw a tandem student cry, literally, all the way to altitude. Never saw anything like it. Obviously, she just took a plane ride back down. Felt so sorry for the girl. Yikes!!!! You can get cheaper flights to Florida and back again. Anyone ever experience this?
  14. Only problems that I can see is that you may get more ill and... Jumping with a head cold can really give you a gnarly ear-ache if you are prone to this type of thing. I have also seen people who's sinuses explode in freefall; it isn't very pretty. Yuk!!!!
  15. Yeah, my shift takes me from 4-midnight. But there is two ways to look at that. At my DZ, the party doesn't even start until 11:00PM; but than again, I can get about 5 jumps in before 3:00PM.

    Corking

I feel a debate coming on. Virtually unheard of, I'm talking even on solo's. Corking is part of the learning process. I'm sure even Mozart stumbled on a few notes while he began writing music at the age of 4. Likewise, freeflyers will cork during record-breaking jumps too. It is part of the territory (that territory being 160mph).
  17. Aliengirl, Don't let this get to you, please. A lot of DZ's are this way. Sometimes getting into the "CLICK's" at the DZ takes time, confidence, self-expression and open-ness. I've been going to my home place for 7-years and, believe me, EVERY SEASON tends to bring a new group together; one which I am not yet a part of. Try to embrace this part of the sport. Most skydivers consider themselves VERY different from "normal" society. I think that this is why the groups tend to flock together so tightly. So, the difficult part is already over, you are a SKYDIVER. Find out when the next party is and ask if you can come along. I'm sure that once they see you are fun to be with, they'll be coming to you for the fun times. Have fun working with it, that is the best part. My 2-cents. Good luck!!!
  18. ...but at least it is raining now!!!! I had to leave Crosskeys for today (Saturday). Somehow, with the rain, it could be a lot worse.

    Corking

If you lose your orientation in a sit or head-down position, chances are that you'll slow down A LOT. When you do that, it will pop you up, in relation to the other divers around you, quite a bit. Corking can be very dangerous. If someone is above you when you cork....WHAMMMOH!!! That is why it is so important to monitor the number of jumpers going out at once - as well as the amount of jumps everyone has. Corking is really a common mistake, it just needs to be anticipated. Don't worry, if you are learning sit-flying now, it will eventually happen. In a sit, the thing is NOT to panic, go into a ball to keep the speed up a bit (you'll probably end up on your back), then just stick your arms out again... this will place you back into a sit position. Best of luck SSkydiver!!!!

  21. ...1 ok, here goes the mood swing. (i'm such a boob sometimes; atleast I admit it though) oh...the Crosskeys love is boundless.. Here, take some of my , and put it in a , and mix it with a , and then I'll be sure and feel so . Hopefully things are . You showing up at the DZ again soon (and jumping)? I have been practically staying there this season - weather permitting.
  22. Please define "totally stable". Getting head down in three jumps IS GREAT!!! Knowing your own body position in freefall and learning cause and effect of flying different body parts takes more time. What you think is head-down could be a few degrees off. Get some coaching or get yourself on video and take a look.
  23. So difficult to bust chops on forums nowadays... Ouch. I see your vision "bella", and hope for the best on that one. Somehow I just get the impression that the diversity of the different skydive disciplines (i.e. freefly, freestyle, crew, 4-way, big-way, etc) fuels the sport in more ways than hindering it. At the same time, hybrids give us all that momentary connection. Vibes are brought together rather than segregated for a few jumps - just enough to get us to party together at night. ps. once again, i apologize to freeflybella, the dropzone forum, and all of its serious members for posting a sarcastic message. in all seriousness, you have my upmost respect - david . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . yeah right
  24. I've had one for about 6 years. Reads a little low at altitude. ..But that is better than high, don't you think. LOL . . . . . . .
