  1. Now that is a very good question to which I do not have an answer. I'm not even sure how you would collect the data or what we would be looking for. In general however, I am firmly against lowering standards so that more students get through. (in this case students = aff instructor candidates) I think another good question would be - why were the standards lowered in the first place? I know we have our pet reasons, but was there an 'official' reason? On a more positive note - my regional director (not a DZO) has already contacted me regarding my posts here and I fully intend to take him up on his offer. I think the picture Derek paints could be the reality, but I also think we have a chance to pick up the brush and paint what we want if we just get involved (the age old mantra I guess). 2. yep. my big beef with USPA was the change in the AFF program. They lowered the standards because not enough instructors were making it through. At least to me that seems like another USPA/DZO conflict of interest. I'm going to renew my USPA membership so I can vote and you better believe my regional director is going to get an earful from me. Scars remind us that the past is real

  5. Would anyone happen to have the complete regular line trim for a cobalt 105 (not the competition trim)? Thanks Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  6. I think you're right and good things are ahead for A&M. Now if they'll just schedule TCU. The best thing to come out of this is that no one will touch Fran with a 10 foot pole. Scars remind us that the past is real
  7. I seem to remember a few years back, something about just wait 'til fran does his dance... or something to that effect... Scars remind us that the past is real
  8. Those would be the ones! I did compare to a "non-problem rig" but even on those, I can still make them slip by changing the angle of pull. There is a bit of 'float' between the two pieces on mine and even more on the grounded rig - I believe that is the culprit. The stitch could be movied closer to the two pieces to mitigate the float, but even on my rig, where the stitching is much closer, I can make the thing loosen by changing pull angle. I'm just trying to gather some data and figure out if this is a one off type of thing or maybe more widespread and I'm missing something. Scars remind us that the past is real
  9. I grounded a rig a few weeks ago because of friction adapters slipping on the leg straps. They are the new two piece adapters, not the old style with the bar in the middle of the box. If you tighten the leg strap and pull straight along the axis of the two pieces - it holds fine. However, if you pull at an angle to the adapter - it slips and slips easily. The jumper would put on the rig, tighten the straps down, arch and *ziiiiip* - loose leg straps. Has anyone else encountered this problem? The only thing I can think of doing is moving the stitch on the leg strap closer to the two pieces so that they do not separate so easily, but I can still loosen the straps just by changing the angle of pull. 11. A few things to look for - one the hook should be smooth - no pits or grooves. A good hook should end at a point and not be rounded. I've seen several worn out hooks where the end was blunt. Thanks to Wayne Snyder, I now know how to fix that Scars remind us that the past is real

  15. Apples and Oranges. Basic airborne school(where one earns the parachutist badge) is and will for the foreseeable future always be under a round parachute and with the exception of modernized round canopies, will continue to run the way it has since it's inception. What you are referring to is the basic HALO program which is indeed undergoing some changes in the program of instruction and teaching methodology but is far from being an AFF course at this point.....unless the AFF program adds rucksacks, night jumps and O2 use However, I don't think we will see the Army HALO program (which is the proponent for this training), change its program as drastically as the Navy course any time soon. Regardless of the type of canopy/training, both have had the fun excised from them. Unless you training with ratboy.... but back on topic - what about foreign jump wings? They tried to get me out to Federal Eagle and said I could get German wings. Sounded good but I'm still grounded (and apparently they were to from the weather). Scars remind us that the past is real

  18. It's not just the fun I'm going to have with it - its the benefit to the region I'm so excited about. I'm going to get the kids and teachers excited about science if I have to hold them down and beat them... Plus now we have the research infrastructure to compete with Boston, Cambridge and Silicon valley

  21. Guess they won't see you at Nationals 2 out of 4 years. you would be correct sir. Plenty of other places to jump
  22. No - thank you all for coming out. If we didn't have jumpers then nothing would have happened! It was fun seeing you all there and I was happy to see all the smiles. And I agree with everyone else - Roy did a fantastic job. You guys also did a great job of staying safe - I was impressed to see the landing discipline. Pics and DVD to come soon. Maybe we should do this again. What do you think? Scars remind us that the past is real
