  1. If you are around saturday evening, swing on by the dropzone for the costume party and cookout! Scars remind us that the past is real
  2. just for the record - I probably won't get a chance to jump. Some one has to make sure everyone gets on the right plane, the tickets are turned in, the video room is ready after each jump, yada yada yada..
  3. Sorry for the late notice, but if anyone is in the area, Friday Oct 31 - Sunday Nov 2 we will be doing formation loads from the Pac+Otter. Saturday night costume party/cookout. PM me for more details. Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  4. you are in luck...there is a party scheduled for saturday evening after jumping. Costumes are encouraged. See the other thread Scars remind us that the past is real
  5. Something else to think about: the pack job doesn't turn into a pumpkin just because it's past midnight. If a "rigger" is willing to pencil-pack, you are probably safer with his pencil-pack than you are with his real pack. Mark thats what I meant.... Scars remind us that the past is real
  6. Something else to think about - if the 'boogie rigger' did pencil pack it - that means you still have your regular rigger's pack job on your back. The only difference is that the dummy who pencil whipped (if indeed he/she did) has now assumed the responsibility for any mistakes in there (if any are there). The cost of the repack - even with the rush fee - is no where near enough money for me to assume that when someone brings me a rig for repack. Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  7. I would disagree. In the short term, your argument works. But after sitting my butt in many an aircraft and in the Pac for the last three years, I'm wondering about the long term costs. Think about how long Otters have been around. The airframes have proven to be robust and can take abuse. Pac's have not been around quite that long and I'm willing to bet that the airframes do not stand up to the abuse the otters are taking. (I say this because I always feel like I'm riding to altitude in an aluminum coke can). In the end (if true), that means much higher costs due to replacement of major parts. I could be wrong, but we'll have to wait until the Pac has been around as long as the Otter. ymmv Scars remind us that the past is real
  8. Yep - Billy Godwin. He was one of my instructors (I went through AFF at Skydive Texas in '97). Scars remind us that the past is real
  9. I always default to Olive Drab. But that is probably more of a result of having a tractor-trailer full of it. Scars remind us that the past is real
  10. They are not keeping the toggles stowed. During the swoop, they transition from rear risers to toggles and frequently the canopy will 'pop' which may seem like they are just popping the brakes. The whole surging business I can explain next time you're out. And if Ian is reading this - yes, I will be using sunglasses/croakies for a learning aid Scars remind us that the past is real
  11. I'd like to see the text that back this statement up. Because the reserve card shows a pack date, not an expiration date. thanks for the info If pack date is before date the new cycle goes into effect - pack job is 120 days. if pack date is after date the new cycle goes into effect - pack job is 180 days. If you are close to the date - wait for your repack until after the new cycle goes into effect. Scars remind us that the past is real
  12. So several questions spring to mind - How many CFI's are there? How many USPA Coaches are there? What level of resources can the FAA call upon? What level of resources can USPA call upon? Allowing professional teachers to be exempt from the teaching portion may be a creditable idea - it seems to me it would encumber the system already i place. I feel the KISS principle should apply - just take the course. After all - maybe the professional teachers that sit through the course can provide insight and anecdotes on how the methods work. That's a good thing right? Scars remind us that the past is real
  13. wow - we only charge $60 for that. $40 for a repack and the extra 20 for the assemble. Scars remind us that the past is real
  14. The largest formation we've gotten out of just the PAC 750 is a 13 way at raeford. We've successfully used it on formation loads and gone much larger, but by itself, 13-14 seems to be the limit. The last jumper has a heck of a job jumping the wing spar, dodging benches while trying to hit the needle eye of a door as the plane is bouncing all around. It's also tough to get very many people outside as well, 4 seems to be our limit (and that is including the video guy) and if you jam the inside with more pepole, well, lets say you might take the plane along for the skydive Let us know if you get 16
  15. Yes - in the center where the pull up cord goes through the closing loop. Makes getting the pin in much easier as the larger cord keeps the two sides of the closing loop further apart. I will take a picture of mine when I get back to the loft. Scars remind us that the past is real
  16. No more calls, we have a winner. A trick as old as rigging. Never heard it called a "guppy" cord but that will do. Sparky Wish I could take credit for the name but I got it from Old man Greg at the GB club. He would probably be glad to tell you the story of where the name came from - or any other story he can think up... Scars remind us that the past is real
  17. Instead of all that, I made a 'guppy' cord. Just put a 4 inch length of cypres cord into middle of the pull up cord. Accomplishes the same thing. Scars remind us that the past is real
  18. so you knew this would be said and you posted anyway? I gotta agree with Dave on this one. Scars remind us that the past is real

  20. Always - just don't count on jumping with sheck this time around. he's in Oklahoma pretending to be a soldier again - this time pretending to drive trucks!!! Scars remind us that the past is real
  21. Just a reminder for all those that plan on coming - please make sure your rig is in date before you get here - that means packed on or after 2 Mar 08. I'm sure you do not want to incur the wrath of rigger rob or myself if you show up with an out of date rig and want it packed right away. And it would suck to have to sit on the ground and watch us having fun.
  22. It's usually due to backsliding at pull time. You see it all the time in military halo jumps - wave, pull, legs up = pc over the nose. Good positive legs at pull time usually prevents it. Scars remind us that the past is real
  23. I'm gonna have to get Ewald's autograph now! Scars remind us that the past is real
  24. oh yeah - definitely out of business. Scars remind us that the past is real
  25. so if you put a kayak in a stream, with no other input, it will turn down stream right? I'm trying to figure out the difference here... is it because the canopy actually has a forward speed and the kayak is just drifting? shape of the vehicle? Scars remind us that the past is real
