Anyone live near Mt. Shasta? Or have climbed Mt. Shasta? I've worked on some rocks from there and now have a notion to climb the thing. I'm looking for local info, input and possible expertise before I start hitting up the geologists I know (they can be a bit stuffy). Shoot me a PM if you live near it or have climbed it. Thanks

Sounds like you want to do pack like I do - a modified psycho pack. Pro pack as normal - lay it on the ground and cocoon like a normal propack, but instead of doing the first s-fold, put your hand on the label and bring the entire cocoon over and back towards the container. You should have one fold and be looking at the tail roll. You can neaten this up, and then roll the canopy down to fit in the bag. Just make sure to pull the bridle attachment point out - should be easy to do. A lot of people pack this way and when I show new packers that have been struggling this method, they can easily get it in the bag and start getting much better openings. I've always wanted to become the proverbial crystallographic ant so that I could visit all the various minerals crystal lattices. I especially long to visit the clinopyroxene lattice as the mineral fascinates me. Just think of walking around all those atoms and bonds; mirror planes stretching here and there... Raeford Jump Club is pleased to have Ian Drennan up this coming weekend for canopy coaching (Jun 30th and July 1st). There are two classes - a basic class on Saturday and an advanced class on Sunday. The ONLY cost to you will be your jump tickets (although a small donation to jump club is always welcome to offset costs of the cookout and to help out with the travel). I have a VW diesel - Golf TDI. On a recent trip to Boston from NC - I averaged 48.5 mpg over the entire trip with 53 mpg on one leg. And since diesel was cheaper (I filled up for $2.42 in at a truck stop) I've been making out like a bandit. The VW diesels are supposed to be good for 500k miles plus. Mine is at 60K miles and no problems thus far. The only thing that really sucks is that if you do have a problem, VW is not cheap with their repairs. I'm hoping we get biodiesel online here soon. I'm not sure how that will affect the mileage but the on the environmental end I think it will be much cleaner. Scars remind us that the past is real

Yep - they still do the diamond track. Two jumpers in freefall with smoke initially track away from each other, then turn and track back towards each other. The smoke forms a diamond in the sky. Got to be careful on the return track because the jumpers literally pass within inches of each other in a full bore track. Scars remind us that the past is real

Its the voltage that stays the same, that is the one thing you can't change. You do change resistance (lower it) which cause current to go up (killing you). but you got the picture now.

I submitted my application to become an Astronaut candidate in early 2005 and was told the next selection would be made July 6, 2005. Budget cuts and other crap got in the way so it was pushed to 2006, then to July 6, 2007. A little bit more to this... Ohms law says that voltage equals current times resistance. So a high resistance (say 500,000 ohms - about the resistance of dry skin) with 120 volts of electricy will be a paltry amount of current - not even enough to tingle. However, if you lower the resistance say 1000 ohms - the resistance of wet skin, the current now becomes deadly even though it is still less than an amp.
