  4. Ugh.. I can't believe he thinks we're boogie ho's. I can't imagine where he gets that idea. I only average about a dozen per year. Since I haven't seen either of you dance, I really can't comment on the boogie part ... care to comment on the "ho" part ? Yep. They aren't.
  5. So there's nationals with FS, freefly, artistic, crew, etc... 4-way, 8-way, 10-way.... Any rigging competitions out there? Say take two identically jacked up sewing machines who can fix it the fastest? Who can sew the best canopy patch in the quickest time? Run down a lane, spin around the bat several times and then have to thread a sewing machine? you get the drift. Do those exist? Jump Scars remind us that the past is real

  11. Since skydivers represent a cross section of society, I think this will be a good way to check some facts I just read. Please select what college degree you hold. If you only have a High School Diploma, please pick no degree. If you hold multiple degrees - then pick the one you actually use. Thanks! Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  12. so, people are still thinking about going there for the weekend or not!? I heard they had some problems with the CASA. well... I hope I can make some jumps in Raeford this weekend... I really don't plan to drive more than I need to Well, I'll be in Raeford. Of course I live on the dz Scars remind us that the past is real

  14. Take a pitcher of water, add two lemon slices and two-three cucumber slices. I learned that trick last month at an Indian restaurant Swedishcelt took me to and I was surprised at how good the water was. Now I keep a carafe full of water, lemon and cucumber in the refridgerator all the time. Beats Mt. Dew any day!
  15. Ian, I can't say enough about how well recieved your workshop was this weekend. Lunch break of the first day people were already telling me that you were an excellent choice. I was kind of apprehensive on what I would get out of this since it was targeted at the more advanced canopy pilots, but I gleaned so much more out of this than I could have ever imagined, as did several of the other low time, swooper wanna-be's. I came away with three very important, fundamental things at the end of the weekend- 1. Now I know how to progress from where I am at to get to where I want to go. I feel equiped to identify the milestones I have to reach and to know when I have safely reached them. As McDuck said, I'm one of the ones that has been 'winging it' for a long time. 2. I now feel a lot more confident as a coach (and hopefully AFF I to be) in teaching students canopy flight - how to plan the pattern, how to fix the pattern, the mechanics of canopy flight etc. If I can help them set their feet on the correct path right out of the gate, that should help them progress much faster but more importantly safer. This leads into 3. A lot of high-jump-number jumpers that I used to think were very good canopy pilots I now realize are really winging it as well. I watch their patterns and their techniques and applying my new knowledge, I realize they are, not bad, but under false impressions of their ability (I guess that is the best way to put it - hopefully you get the meaning of what I am trying to say). No matter how old you are, how long you have been in the sport, or how many jumps you have - you can never, NEVER stop learning. I'm hoping that the group we had this past weekend does continue to progress and sets a good example for the students and new jumpers as well as the older jumpers. Thanks again Ian - you are a great teacher, even if you do have a funny accent. Scars remind us that the past is real
  16. wow! I just noticed that Rob ALMOST smiled... Thanks again Ian. I've got a few more things to add, but I'm going to do so over in canopy control. You're more than welcome to come up at anytime. Everyone was very impressed and now everyone (people who were not in the workshop included) are asking when are we bringing you back. I think its the accent myself. 20. I knew it wouldn't be long before you were all in here touting the jet boil.... maybe one day when my trusty whisper lite wears out - but that doesn't appear to be anytime soon. Scars remind us that the past is real
  21. If you are planning on staying at the canyon, then you are probably too late to get a place. My preference is the North Rim (not as commercialized as the south rim. Page, AZ isn't to far away and its a nice drive up to the canyon from there. If you stay in Page, you can also visit Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon dam. If you've ever read any of Ed Abbey's books, it'll be a treat for you. Other than that - get out of the car and hike as often as possible! There are some awesome views - even if it is all sedimentary rocks you see from the top Scars remind us that the past is real
  22. well - work, circumstances etc all add up to no lp for me again this year despite my best efforts. Got time on the Ion Microprobe at ASU during the latter part of LP and now way I could make both. Scars remind us that the past is real
  23. What boogie where you at? Even with Raefords modest landing area - there were no incidents and no canopy collisons. And I agree with McDuck - the landing direction was briefed before each load - as it always is at Raeford. Jump Scars remind us that the past is real

  25. You've been there...it's called The House of Mirrors. well sort of - when I volunteered at the Museum of Science in Boston, I spent sunday mornings walking around the rocks, crystals and dinosaur exhibits talking to the kids (they were on my level anyway ) and one of the most fascinating things there (for me anyway) was a diamond made of mirrors with a cube of lights in the center. It literally looked like it when forever in each direction. I spent hours - HOURS staring into oit. Of course is wasn't the clinopyroxene lattice but it was a good representation of a zircon lattice.
