    Road Rage

I hate doing this, its so bloody 'poor little me' and I really hate giving that impression, but I've got to lay it out for you, Gerb. In July 1991 I was driving into Liverpool on the M62. It was a sunny, clear day, dry road and very light traffic. I was in the middle lane doing about 75mph. I pulled into the fast last to overtake a car doing about 70 mph. As soon as I started overtaking, the car I was trying to overtake speeded up and pulled into the fast lane infront of me, although he wasn't overtaking anyone. I dropped back into the middle lane, the other car dropped back into the middle lane and slowed down. I went to overtake him again and the same thing happened. I got slightly pissed off, he was obviously stopping me from overtaking him for some spurious reason and I got more and more determined to get in front of him. The last time I went to overtake him (my speed had been increasing with each attempt, this time I was doing about 80 I'm told), he pulled out once again, but this time too late and ended up hitting the front of my car with the rear of his. My car hit the central reservation and flipped. I wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Injuries: Fractured vertebrae (level T8) Fractured right ulna Fractured right radius Fractured left femur Fractured left patella 11 fractured ribs Punctured lung Result: Intensive care for 1 month - ventillated for 2 weeks. Spinal Unit for 5 months Rehab for 3 months - but ongoing. Incomplete paraplegia - use wheelchair for any distance over 20 yards, crutches otherwise. Driver of other car didn't stop, was never caught. My claim was thrown out by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board because I wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Now, I have completely come to terms with all this, not least because I helped to create the situation and it could (should) have been much more serious. But I'd hate to see you, Gerb, end up in a similar, or worse, scenario. After all your attitude as a crip might suck Wear your seat belt, please. Next Mood Swing: 6 minutes

    Circumcision

Just my 2p worth: I prefer a man who's not circumcised. I've been with men who are 'cut' and 'un-cut', and 'cut', is, er, um, harder work.... Next Mood Swing: 6 minutes

  9. That's really kind. Thanks for those thoughts. Ma hasn't seen an endocrinologist - her GP hasn't referred her to see any specialist, I don't know why, I don't even think she's asked for it, and as she's a senior trained nurse, she should know better! I'll speak with her. Thank you
  10. I understand exactly what you're saying, and in people, who don't have hypothyroidism or diabetes, thats fine. But in my mother's case - she'd die. Not through starvation itself, but the effects it would have on her body. If she doesn't eat (she's tried eating less and less in increasingly desperate attempts to loose weight) she has horrendous palpitations and looses consciousness, now I don't understand the physiology involved, but I do know that eating less, in someone with my mother's condition is not the way to go. 12. Nooooooooooo!!!! Sorry, hon, I have to disagree. There are several conditions that make it very difficult, if not impossible for some people to loose weight. My mother's thyroid packed up 10 years ago and she has been unable to loose any weight in all that time. As a consequence, she now has diabetes which adds further complications. She is physically unable to loose weight through any means. So my beautiful mother who at age 45 weighed 119lbs (5'9"), is, 15 years later, a size 20. The really sad part (if this wasn't bad enough), even though she is still as glamorous, intelligent and beautiful as she always was, people still sometimes treat her with less respect than they did when she was a size 10. 16. I can give you the opposite perspective. I'm an educational designer/web developer. I design online content for two Master's programmes that are delivered to HM Armed Forces overseas. Obviously the pedagogy and content will vary enormously from course to course and from university to university. But what seems to be the main factors in online learning/e-learning/distance learning/blended learning courses are: 1. Motivation. Without having to attend class, it can be easy to loose momentum. It is essential that students have sound academic discipline and rigour. 2. Interaction. Part of any learning experience is interaction with other students. It is of great benefit to the course if a closed forum is available for online discussion. 3. Experiential learning. This is of great value in the vast majority of courses, whether online or face to face, postgraduate or undergraduate. If the student is learning online, experiential learning can go along way to making up for lack of group work/interaction. In my opinion, blended learning (a mixture of online and face to face teaching) is by far the best option for any student. Very few of our students, especially if they have been out of the educational loop for any time, have the academic discipline to study without contact (and subsequent motivation) with their lecturers and/or course. 18. I seem to remember a tandem master (I think I was told it was Mike Smith) that got the drogue lines wrapped round his neck, so rendering him unconscious. This was the students first jump and he was totally unaware that anything was wrong despite side spinning very fast. The camera guy (Ronnie O'Brien) saved him. I think this was at Sibson. Sorry to be so vague. Next Mood Swing: 6 minutes

  23. Ok, so God gave us free choice. Well, the thing I don't understand is why give us free choice if: a) God is going to influence our lives anyway and so only allowing us free choice in certain circumstances, as illustrated by your: If this is the case, and I personally don't believe it, then its a bloody good example of God meddling, influencing and thus not allowing us free choice, surely? and, b) we're going to be 'condemned' if we make the 'wrong' choice? Why not just make us so we always make the right choice? What's the point otherwise? Sounds like God enjoys a bit of sadism on the side Next Mood Swing: 6 minutes
