  2. In a 182, I think if somebody made it back it was a good spot. If everybody made it, it was great. -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'
  3. I started jumping at 16 in Missouri. It was a non-USPA dropzone and my parents had to sign the waivers. My understanding is that there are only a few states that allow a parent to sign away a minor's rights. I lucked out and Missouri happened to be one of them. -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

  6. AD mentioned Single Helix, but people like clickies! http://www.single-helix.com/frames.htm Their closing pins say either "Skydive, Freefly, Pull, Swoop, or Tandem." I love mine... -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

  11. I've seen mine with a knot in it once. I showed it around and some jumpers and I concluded that it probably happened when picking up my main in the landing area. I usually grab the bridle near the attachment point and tug to have the pilot chute come flying up to my hand. I think it's very possible for it to tie up at that point. -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

  13. I think that is a very good point. A lot of people get each license just because. There isn't much benefit throughout the whole ABCD program. Let's see what privileges you earn past your A (from SIM) B - perform night jumps C - obtain Coach rating and ride with tandem instructors on training/renewal jumps D - participate in certain demonstration jumps, obtain all USPA ratings I never got my B license but have the other three. I have jumped at night and with a TM training but didn't apply for the licenses specifically for those reasons. I think they were just landmarks... I like the idea of Big Way and Freefly licenses. I don't like the idea of the added cost/bureaucracy of a system like that though. Right now if you find out that someone has a D license, all you really know about their skills is that they have survived 200 freefalls. If there were discipline specific licenses, we would more easily be able to judge ones skills/accomplishments. (Let's not forget the Atmosphere Dolphin, which I really know nothing about). 14. August 28, 2003 - September 1, 2003 Fort Dodge Regional Airport Fort Dodge, Iowa Try going to www.couchfreaks.com There's a link on the left saying Dollar Daze and "2002." I think it's supposed to say "2003" because once you click on it it shows this year's info. Blue Skies- -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

    DZ.com name

I started flying jumpers in Wisconsin and they either called me "Mike the Pilot" or "Pilot Mike." One girl tried calling me "BitchBang" from a Jerky Boyz CD but it never stuck. PilotMike became official actually because of "Pop," the author of this thread. AKA CabanaBoy. I started flying here in Texas about the same time he started packing. (Two Mike's cannot be tolerated) so we both got nicknames. Him for always craving Taco Cabana and me for obvious reasons. -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'
  16. Next time you get in your jump plane, look at the compass. It is required to have a deviation card on/near it. This shows a correction based on 'magnetic deviation' which is the result of local magnetic fields produced by metals and electrical systems in the aircraft. This card is calibrated without anybody elses' electrical systems onboard, let alone running. You can also try putting electrical devices next to the compass and see what it does. I know it's only the compass but when the airline says 'interfere with navigational equipment' they aren't lying. A compass off by a few degrees won't crash an airplane but if it can be avoided, I say avoid it... -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'
  17. The most nervous I ever was had to be when they opened the door on the Cessna on my first jump and I had to "Climb all the way out and hang!" It's funny because I was scared of fallingwhile climbing out there... But once I checked in and looked up, I let go. Still the most nervous I get is usually when I think I could "fall out." Like sitting on the way end of the bench on the Skyvan with my foot over that gap or trying to latch the door up, or even sitting next to the open Otter door during climb with my seatbelt off. If the airplane yaws a little too much and makes me lean towards the door, my heart definitely quickens. Sometimes in turbulence the stall horn on a Cessna will honk for a second. If I'm flying, it doesn't phase me, I just correct it but if I'm a jumper, I flinch big time. I actually feel a little relief when it's time to jump every time. I guess that's the 'control freak aspect' of wanting to be pilot-in-command. Once it's my turn to get out...I'm in my own hands again. -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'
  18. Never underestimate the power of the sneaky. I think you started chatting in the same post as telling everyone else to stop by saying hi to me... I'm just not on this thing as much as some people (AD especially). Up until last week I think I only had 4 posts. Dave is right though, D's hairless legs are way sexier than Todd's!! -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'
  19. I really like the one you posted of Scott (I believe). It's listed as 18_18 or something... You can't see the canopy but I think it's a cool visual. -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'
  20. Here is what USPA says: I think people would like the option of making certain demo jumps while between 200 and 500 jumps. Somebody mentioned jumping into a wedding... I've had my D for a couple years but still have less than 500 jumps. -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'
  21. 30:11:4 30 Loads 11 Jumps at Summer Jam (we need to have that many good-lookin' freeflyin' women around all the time even the airport manager said so) 4 Cases of beer, 1 for 1st CRW, 1 for 1st hybrid, 1 for drinkin' and 1 for pourin' (SCR) -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'
  22. As the staff 182 pilot, I would like to specifically thank fozchek and sunnydee123. They were the only visiting jumpers to jump the Cessna this weekend. They made me feel useful and kept me from only spending money... Seriously though, I thought everyone that attended was great. I had a blast the whole time, either flying right seat in the Otter or making a few jumps. (My favorite was my CRW jump with Catfish). I hope all that came out here remember to come back and jump with us this summer and at our boogie in September! Blue Skies- -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'
  23. I told my parents at age ten that I wanted to go skydiving. They told me I had to be 16. A month before my 16th birthday, I asked my dad where we were going skydiving the upcoming summer. He and I went on an observation ride about a week later in the Crazy (Pink) Flamingo Porter. He asked if I still wanted to do it, I said "Hell Yeah!" I asked if he still did and he said "As long as I don't have to ride that plane down again." Seven years later he's got about 70 more jumps than I do and I fly jumpers for a living... So you could say he's supportive . My mom took some time getting used to it but she's glad we have something we enjoy so much. It was a father/son bonding experience that most people don't get. Not many high school kids tell their friends that they don't want to hang out on the weekend cuz they'll be with their dad instead... 24. Hey man, that's pretty cool. I've never heard of a "skybirthday" but mine is July 14th 1996. It was 6 days after I turned 16. I've now got 410 jumps. That's averaging 60 a year. I should get a bonus though, because I've flown close to 900 loads since May of last year... Blue Skies- -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'
