My first balloon jump was in Eloy so I had two options where to land: 1) Huge open desert, or 2) Huge open desert. My second was out of a friend's balloon somewhere in WI. It only had room for two jumpers and the pilot. We decided on a nice open field near the road that the chase car was on but soon after opening realized that we wouldn't make it. The other jumper landed in the middle of a cornfield and I landed on a dirt road between the corn and some trees. It wasn't until after I landed that I realized that I crossed under a powerline while flaring. Hindsight is 20/20, I should've landed in the corn with my friend. -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

FUNNY INCIDENTS IN FREEFALL.
PilotMike replied to stilettodude's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As a jump pilot, hearing the tandem master tell a female student to "Turn around, get on your knees, and bend over." This was promptly followed by her saying "Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!" repeatedly. (She got scared once she could see out the window). Once the door opened, she started screaming and grabbing at stuff. The TM asked for a cut and I told him that I couldn't because she had grabbed my right thumb after I took her hand off of the control yolk. Then, when they finally got out, I actually heard her scream for about a second after they went out the door! When asked on the ground what she thought, she said it was the best thing ever... -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.' -
Parachute Landing Warning Signs?
PilotMike replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I own both of the signs AggieDave is talking about and I'm pretty sure I got them from the back of Skydiving magazine. Does anyone have old issues where they could find the company's contact info? The prop one that I have is similar to the one posted but it is a 3-bladed prop and it's only the guy's head with X's for eyes... I've had the low-pull/malfunction bounce dream multiple times. It's always at my (sort of) home dz and I am busy staring at my malfunction that keeps almost inflating but never fully. I look at my altimeter at 1,000' and think "it'll open." Then I land HARD with an "OOooof!" I then walk to the hangar sheepishly hoping that nobody saw it and they did and tell me I'm a dumbass for doing that "again." I don't know where the "again" comes from except that I've had the dream more than once... -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

Pictures Galore! (Spring Break, mudd'n and more)
PilotMike replied to AggieDave's topic in The Bonfire
Yep...that's me. Known as Mike in Fargo, ND, Lobo's son in Osage, KS, Mike the Pilot (or BitchBang) in Omro, WI, and PilotMike in Bryan, TX. Not the best pictures to be recognized in. When I develop mine, I'll put them up. I've got more "boobie" pictures than Dave too. -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.' -
Hey Dave, don't forget these: -Assign one to someone other than the switchee when playing a "Switch Hands" -Drink two when playing a "Double Play" -Drink five when you lose a bomb -Finish your beer when you lose all three -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'
