  1. I think that the rules are similar. They were just recently adopted, and I assume that they used the recommendations from the FAI. Scott?
  2. It took place during the Alberta Skydiving Provincials. Provincials was advertised locally, but I'm not sure how much it was promoted outside of Alberta. We have a great base of Wingsuiters in Alberta, and it is continuing to grow. I'm sure there will be more events. Where are you located? 3. Not a huge formation, but you have to start somewhere. This was the first Canadian Record. Scott Callantine took the photo. Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. - Mark Twain
  4. I put together some of my footage from the event here: http://vimeo.com/64467745 I had a great time, thanks everyone. Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. - Mark Twain
  5. So sad to hear this. Ian was a great friend. I enjoyed my friendship with him, he gave me lots of advice as I was starting into skydiving and coaching. I'll always remember the two of us driving back from Lost Prairie in his stinky camper van. We had to stop at all of his favorite places on the way and took way longer than it should have. It was a great trip. Blue Skies Ian!
  6. Just got my new Ghost 3 too!

    aussies busted

That is such a fucked up approach i don't know where to even start. Legal sanctioned events will come and go. They are a bonus. Bandit jumping is the lifesblood of BASE. Go down the route you just suggested and you'll be held by the bollocks forever, afraid to do anything to upset the authorities in case they snatch away your legal site. Are you seriously suggesting we all abstain from jumping all buildings JUST IN CASE someone might be organising "in secret" some legal event. Think about what you just said carefully. It's utter nonsense and to me is pretty much the antithesis of what BASE jumping is about. ian Those were my thoughts exactly. Thanks for expressing them. It is one thing if there is a legitimate chance of a object being sanctioned for a legal event; but realistically, these are rare. In my hometown, there was a high profile site that a local was working on opening, so it would have ruined his chances if some would have jumped it during that negotiation process. But the locals knew he was trying to do get it sanctioned, so it was known that it would have been off-limits during that time. Otherwise, if anyone could get on it, go for it (is basically the understood philosophy around here). I suspect the original poster may have been sarcastic though (maybe not).

    #110 (((

It was the University of Manitoba. Here are some links to a couple articles on him and his research if anyone wants to learn more: http://outside.away.com/outside/features/200212/200212_popsicle_splash.html http://www.umanitoba.ca/faculties/physed/research/people/giesbrecht.shtml

  16. Yah, Jaap was right. Regular PCV with tape around it, to prevent the finger in the tube. Probably a little paranoid, but I have a vague recollection of either me getting my finger stuck in one, or hearing about it (on a skydive).
  17. And that they do. Just got my suit in the mail. Looks pretty sweet. Attached are some pictures.

    Fly the Line

Just got this DVD in the mail last night and watched it. Blew my mind, amazing footage and some very cutting edge stuff. Highly, highly recommend watching it. Andrew Edited to add: Trailer and Ordering available here: http://www.phoenix-fly.com/products/flytheline.htm

    For 1st BASE

When you say "Element', I am assuming you mean which object. A bridge is a good first BASE jump because there is little chance of hitting the object (i.e. from an off-heading opening).

    Toxic PC's

I don't really buy that, expect maybe in extreme cross wind conditions, I don't really see quicker inflation of a pilot chute as ever being an issue. Seems like a good thing to me. Can you explain this better to me?
  21. Fair enough. I just thought that 7 seemed like a pretty high number, if you were being as careful as possible. I guess you are just jumping higher profile sites. Much legal problems from all those busts?
  22. I think the more important question is, were any of them avoidable if you had been more careful?
  23. It's a simple matter to remove the check mark from the box "Append Signature to post" when you think your sig may not be appropriate or you wish to use another, temporary, one. Nobody seems to do this though. I have seen many inappropriate signatures on incident postings. Sometimes even from moderators. I also think that people might not realize that updating their signature is retroactive, and will change their signature for all their posts. I would like to re-iterate that I agree that signatures should be turned off for the incidents forum. Thanks Andrew
  24. Are people really doing their second BASE jump from a building? I would say that he might be lying, except that he gave details on his first jump. You would think he would either say it was his first, or not say anything at all if he had multiple jumps. These guys must have been slow, or the cops really fast. I wonder how 'early' it was. Edited to add: What do people on here think about the effects of starting posts like this. Does it further/worsen the effects of the burnt object by bringing it more into the public eye? OR, Is it necessary, so that other jumpers will know not to jump this object again, as it is hot? Does one out weigh the other? Just got me wondering. Anyone have any thoughts?
