  1. Both the B-17 and the B-24 were at the San Luis Obispo airport this last weekend. With the cost of admission we were allowed to walk through both of these planes. Both were VERY impressive! Attached are some low res camera phone images of the two planes.
  2. Camera phones are pretty cool. Here is an almost real time photo of me in "the cube of hell!"
  3. I've been to seven dropzones (although none of them were "the big ones"), and I haven't heard of any canopy control courses being offered. I would jump at the chance to further my knowledge of canopy control. My AFF course provided the minimal skills needed. I've learned "drills" to practice from reading these forums. Bill Von's list has provided the basics that should be learned. Just this last weekend I mentioned to one of my former instructors that I wished I would have had more information about canopy control. She agreed, that more information should be given. I hope this year I'll get a chance to take a class.
  4. I got the B license so that I could play at a local boogie that would have required one due to a lake/pond near the landing area. It was the old B, and I snuck my application in just before the deadline. I've was also looking forward to doing night jumps, but as of now I have yet to do one.
  5. SLO = San Luis Obispo where I live freefall = what I like to do I know, not very creative, but it got me on here!
  6. At least it made for a clear line of vision for the TM to spot the landing.
  7. I've been looking forward to make a balloon jump, but they just don't seem to be very common. Is there any place in California that offers these jumps on any sort of regular basis? I know that Napa area is a sort of balloon mecca, and it seems that perhaps Davis or Lodi would have them. Can anyone comment?
  8. I don't know the story behind it, but here is picture of it.
  9. I think I could live with a trespassing ticket or whatever they might throw my way, but I would be more concerned about my whuffo pilot friend who would have more riding on it than myself. I could keep my own mouth shut about the origin of my jump, but I am curious if the local ATC would be able to check their radar or something and say "that was plane #___ and the pilot is ____". Jumping at the DZ is great, but I think a drop into town (or the outskirts) at least once would be better!
  10. You might if you were the grounds keeper and they just left a big swoop divot in a putting green. So you're saying replace the divot?
  11. What sort of people in the general population would know that it is against the law? Skydivers, maybe some pilots? If I saw people under canopy while I was say... playing golf, I surely wouldn't call the authorities. I inquire about this purely out of curiosity. Also, Are there laws that affect paragliders about where they can and where they can not fly? I see paragliders quite regularly at various public locations.
  12. What are the penalties involved with getting caught making a bandit jump? I imagine the pilot could risk losing a pilots license, but what could the jumpers be charged with? Also, it seems like it would be difficult to identify the plane/pilot that dropped the jumpers as it would be hard for a person to recognize the plane at that altitude.
  13. I ordered a video from Australia that shipped four weeks ago via USPS. I have not received it yet and unfortunately there aren't tracking numbers to track the progress. Something tells me I may never see that copy. I have to agree with everybody about sticking with UPS or FedEx. I'd also throw DHL International into the mix as another reliable parcel service especially for international shipping. I've found they have better rates, and offer insurance, provide you with a tracking number, and transit time often times is better than UPS or FedEx.

    freefly pants

I received a pair of pants made by Flite Suit for Christmas. I am pleased with both the design, and the craftsmanship. They exceeded my expectations! They were off the stock shelf, delivered in two days and fit great.
  15. Does anyone know taln in real life, 'cause I think she's an angel***] I do know the lovely taln in real life and she is all that and a bag of chips. Very sweet, angel ... I don't know
  16. BTW golf is a great drinking game!
  17. I too struggled with correcting a pretty mean slice for some time. I eventually just decided I'd live with it and aim left. This worked out for some time, but on dogleg lefts it was impossible. I determined that what was causing me to slice was that I had the ball too far forward in my stance resulting in me breaking my wrist, and opening the clubface. I've corrected this by locating the ball more centered between my legs. Now I have a straight drive, but I can always pull out that slice for long dogleg rights!
  18. Last night on ESPN, there was a short portion of Sportscenter devoted to Fan Man. I remember when he landed on that fight, but I hadn't heard about his other antics. I think Fan Man is kinda cool. He did what he wanted to do, and spend some jail time for it. Thats the cost for your 15 minutes of fame sometimes. It's too bad he ultimately took his own life. Sounds like he spent lots of time training people to fly powered parachutes. Mad props for Fan Man!!!
  19. Weather pending, I imaine I should have some good opportunites to improve on my numbers with access to the Mullins Rocket this winter. Is it December yet?
  20. I assume you've got a damn good reason to fly across the country to skydive, when DZ's are plentiful here in the Golden State!
  21. I too have topped out at four. Ten over the course of one weekend. Seems like the days where I'm on a roll packing and getting ready, the dz is not running smoothly limiting the number of loads I can get on, and the days where I'm suffering from the previous nights happenings, loads are turning consistantly. Also, I'm not sure I can afford to step up my one day standard!
  22. That hybrid obviously is packed full of solid skills! I just noticed that foot contorted in a way that resembles that of a twisted/brokes ankle. I was fairly confident he wasn't really broken. Just caught my eye.
  23. ZZ-Top at Centenial Gardens? Wish I would've known in advance. I saw them in OKC a few years back and they put on one of the better shows I've seen. I wasn't a big fan before, but I pay alot more attention to them since.
  24. Is it just me or does that guy in blue have a broken ankle!
