  1. Not sure if this is what you are looking for but there is what is known as a RASL ( Release away static line). The only thing left on the anchor line cable inside the aircraft are parts 4,5,6. The RASL is used on cargo systems only, an example can be seen here. "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  2. The following from DZO John Hamilton: We recently had two jumpers show up at Skydive Elsinore with Tony Suits new Apache Wing. The suits came with auxiliary handles (Thumb loops) which attached to both the cutaway and reserve cables and were routed through slits made in the jumpsuit. This was designed as Tony Suits new Apache Wing-suit actually covered access to both the cutaway and reserve handles. This obviously posed concerns as it could of been a violation of the TSO testing which each rig manufacturer has to go through with the modification and usage of the Reserve Parachute. When we pull tested the equipment, we found that the pull test resulted in forces exceeding the TSO testing standards of 22 pounds. Upon contacting Tony Uruagallo of Tony Suits and shared this information, he immediately conducted further testing and found the same results when the thumb loop were attached and issued the following statement: Apache suit owners, Today in testing, we've found that the pull strength with the auxiliary handles we've shipped out recently on our Apache model wing suit can be higher than the TSO standard. We recommend you NOT use them. Tony Tonysuits Fellow DZO's, please be on the lookout for anyone jumping Apache Wing Suits with the usage of Auxiliary Handles (Thumb loops). There can be mod's done on the Apache Wing-suits from the manufacturer or qualified rigger which places the handles in their original configuration and accessible to the outside of the Wing-suit "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  3. The dealer you bought your canopy from is who you should be interacting with and answering the questions you have as PD doesn't sell direct. PD does address customers questions when they by pass their dealer and make inquires because they believe in providing good customer service. You have to keep in mind that PD has no way of looking at where Jumper X's order is or how long it will take due to the orders coming in from the dealers in the field. 4. That made me laugh. All military rigs, rounds and squares, have used quick ejector snaps for years on the leg straps and even on the chest strap on some systems. I am unaware of even one instance where a jumper fell out of a harness due to the QE snaps releasing. 6. There are audible CANOPY alarms that you can set that you can hear once you are under canopy, not in freefall. "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  7. Talk to Zun, he built a suit that he calls the UFO that is similar in concept some years ago. His suit has a release system so your hands/arms are free for the deployment, something I couldn't tell if yours had or not in the video. Zun's suit worked well but he never released it to the public due to safety concerns. 8. Saw THIS camera and thought of this thread. Talk about a throw back in form factor but the file format it saves in might be appealing to you and it seems you are not the only one that has noted the "older" cameras features are more desirable in some ways. 9. +1 on the EOTech recomendations. I would also throw out there the Aimpoint T-1. In either case, since you are planing on using iron sights as well , determine if you prefer co-witness or not and use the appropriate riser if needed. 13. From Vigil: Dear Vigil owner, We have discovered that a limited number of LCD controllers with software version 2.20 are “freezing” or “locking” during the start up sequence or in some cases directly after landing. As a preventive action, we advise the affected Vigil owners to replace their 2.20 LCD during the next reserve repack. The replacement LCD will be provided free of charge. ( Please see attached information bulletin) We will be sending another email to any Vigil USA dealer who has received shipments pertaining to this bulletin. We will attach a document listing all of the serial numbers of Vigils originally equipped with an LCD software version 2.20 that have been sent to dealers. Dealers,if you have received Vigils included in this information bulletin, we request that you please notify your concerned Vigil customer if possible. As a reminder, this action is recommended at the next reserve repack to avoid any future inconveniences due to the possibility of a problem with these controllers. Please note, for each replacement LCD controller request, we will require (before shipment) the serial number of the Vigil it will be placed on. We will include a prepaid mailer for the return of the original controller to us. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to you or your customers. We appreciate your help and remain at your disposal for any questions or concerns you may have. 15. +1 on the Racer, if you haven't had your hands on a new one lately, it's got a lot going for it as Electronaut mentioned. "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  16. For what it is worth, there are 3 deaths/scenes/scenarios that are attributable to REAL WORLD events where a SEAL has fallen, to include the funeral scene. It may be a movie but the deaths in the movie can be traced back to real SEALS who have died in combat. We all couldn't be at the funerals, some didn't even know or hear about it on the news but at the end of the day if someone wants to show their respect/support for the fallen by standing at a movie or sending care packages to the troops deployed, etc, I think thats a good thing. 17. I trained a DZ.com member named Tallguy back in 2003 at Rantoul, BillVon took him on his flight with the rest of the flock getting out afterwards, it's was quite a sight to see a suit that big in the sky. He is right around 6'9" and pushing the same weight as you. For reference, the guy to the right of him in that picture is 6'2" and about 225lbs. What you will find, be it in a wing suit or any type of skydiving, you will have to adjust your fall rate based on who you are trying to fly relative to. The challenge for most your size/weight in a wingsuit is not only controlling the fall rate but the horizontal speed as well. It can be frustrating at first as you will find that if you decrease your horizontal speed your fall rate increases and it can become a bit of an accordion effect until you dial it in and fine tune your flight profile that allows you to settle in alongside others. Not an impossible task but don't become discouraged if you have to work at it for a bit before you find your ideal position. 18. I would second what Morris just told you above. While I don't have any CP records under my belt, I have been jumping different sizes of the Storm before it was generally available to the public. I currently jump the 97 Storm in the WL you are asking about for wingsuiting and general skydiving, prior to that I was jumping a Katana, since right before they came out. Like others have already said here, I would recommend that you stay with a larger sized canopy at a lower WL for awhile longer, especially if you're going to continue wingsuiting, as you will find yourself potentially landing out or in less than ideal post opening situations as you continue to fly your suit. If swooping is what you really want to do, then focus on that first until you figure it out and then add it as something you also do when you are landing after wingsuiting. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen someone try to learn and do both at the same time before they were dialed in or had enough experience to do both safely together. It inevitably ends in some scary canopy stories and or an unexpected impact with the earth, and in most cases, they had received plenty of warning from others with far more time and experience, so all I can say is I hope you take to heart what everyone here has offered you and make a wise decision to stay at a lower WL and continue flying with the flock.

  20. You are way off base here in your thinking on costs. If your DZ has it's own system it's either a civilian home made version in which case none of the military equipment would interface with it or it is surplus equipment that has been piecemealed together from older parts such as the MBU-5/12 or other O2 mask which uses an AirOx VII and components that are not compatible with the two systems we discussed above. The only civilian company that has a proper military setup and runs their jumps the correct/safe way, to my knowledge, is HALOjumper.com and the operation in California and they provide you with all the necessary equipment. 21. To do it correctly, as in physiologically sound and safe practices, not cutting corners, that is only half of the equipment you would need. You would also need the OXCON and hose(s) to pre breath off of while in the aircraft. You also would need to have all compatible equipment, the link you posted above is for the PHAOS system and the O2 mask you just referenced( Phantom) is made by a different manufacturer. You cannot use the two with each other as is, you would have to do some modification to either the OXCON and or the Phantom mask to make the two work together due to pressure differences the two each use. Likewise, you would need your bail out bottle to mask components to all be compatible. 22. Not going to happen. They do not sell to the public and or non governmental organizations. This is the general stance of all the manufacturers of oxygen life support equipment for military freefall, which is why what is out there is on e-bay, etc after it has been sold off via DRMO and someone has piecemealed it together. Even if they did sell to the public, unless you just won the lottery, I seriously doubt you have that much spare cash to spend on everything you would need. 23. Again, I have to disagree with you on the canopy, it's not a caddy by any means and there are newer and better Military specific canopies out there but it's no where near as bad as you think it is . I have hundreds of jumps on the MC-4 ranging from just the rig to full combat equipment. A lot of very big guys and weighted down guys jump the MC-4 canopy on a regular basis, most weighting it out right around the 325-350 lb mark and injuries are lower than what is encountered in sport skydiving landing injuries. The main is a 360 Sq Ft 7 cell canopy( the reserve is identical), which is bigger than most tandem canopies being used and very few manufacturers sell a canopy in that size range that isn't classified as a tandem parachute. There are several anvil brothers on DZ.com that jump MC-4s and they can attest to how the canopy flies and lands. Like any used parachute, there is a chance that the one a person may obtain might be close or beyond it's usefulness due to porosity issues and then there is the person flying the canopy as well, there are DZs full of skydivers that cannot land their canopy well despite it being within acceptable tolerances, I see it every day at the DZ, that doesn't mean that I have grounds to say that brand canopy lands hard, especially if its a canopy I haven't jumped before. Again, unless one has a weight/size issue, I don't see a good reason for someone to use an MC-4/5 system for sport use. 24. I agree with you on why someone would want to use one of these H/C for a sports rig, unless of course, if it's because of their size/weight, then its not a bad idea. I disagree with you about the canopy comments. What you are describing is attributable to that one canopy. Not all MC-4 canopies fly as you stated in your post. While they are not speed demons, they do have forward speed and they do have the ability to generate lift on the bottom end. There is a reason why it's been the most widely sold and used military parachute system on the planet and is still being bought by some countries. It sounds like the one you observed was behaving like any canopy that is well worn out. I find your comments about the placards location and it's being stamped on to be non issues, all the info can be found on that placard and the manufacturer can help in translating it if it isn't apparent what info is on it. The stamped on ink placard is far more durable than a sewn on one and it's less prone to fading/wear inside the nose as opposed to the traditional location of the sewn on placard on sports canopies. Again, I see this as a non issue as even the the use of the gear is covered in the FARs when it comes to the TSO and if it's in question, contact the manufacturer. Again, I don't see a need for people to jump these systems unless of course its due to size/weight issues that sports gear won't support, then these systems are indeed a viable option. It's a big, heavy system built to carry a jumper with full combat equipment with an All Up Weight of 360 lbs and as such is quiet cumbersome compared to a sports H/C. The only sports H/C manufacturer that readily builds rigs that can support people in this size/weight range is Jump Shack and thats a custom built system, which may not fit in some peoples budget and a MC-4 might be their only way to enter into the sport. The upside to all of this is that the MC-4, which is currently in use with the US, is being replaced and as such I would imagine there will be plenty of newer MC-4 systems and component parts available at DRMO and surplus stores in the very near future. 25. What about that time at Rigger camp? I know there was a Racer there, I did a reserve pack job on it as a matter of fact. But I will say that it was a very old Racer and not what one would expect to see on todays Racer. John, if you have a newer style Racer laying around that you would like to donate to Sandy's rigging course I know the students would have more of an opportunity to work on a Racer thats closer to what comes from the factory today.
