  1. And how does this compare to what Bush has done, or even could do? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  2. Come on, you know, it wouldn't be readable if it rotted. Are there pictures? If you examine a hundred tuna, can you find letters of their alphabet spelling words on many of them? Maybe their letters are shapes that are common on fish? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  3. I don't think so. That line of thought would not justify illegal intrusions of privacy by our government. But the NSA program is not illegal. I understand that you think it should be, but it is not. There are many ways for you to actively pursue the goal of making this type of program illegal. And you are speaking out, and can pursue the goal of making this type of program illegal. I think it is unacceptable to compare Bush to Stalin for using an intelligence gathering method that has been affirmed as constitutional by the highest court in the land. Are all of those justices also to be compared to Stalin? I don't know who was on the court back then and which voted which way, but I'd be surprised if there weren't some liberal heroes included. I'm certainly wary of such a threat. Fortunately or unfortunately, it is very hard for such things to remain a secret for very long, and even when they are not illegal, our free press is so eager for a scandal that it can become headline news for a long time. A free press is something that Stalin and the current Russian government does not have constantly looking for a scandal to keep it in check. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  4. What is different now? Stalin killed all political opposition, even potential opposition. We have a supreme court that found it constitutional (no expectation of privacy for this info). We have a legislature that could make it illegal if they wanted to. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  5. Of course this is said about many intrusions into our privacy that are seen as valuable to law enforcement. The legislatures and courts can change/reject/affirm the objectionable methods. If you don't think the legislators and courts are doing a proper job of this, our democratic system allows us to be represented by those that would change the laws and appoint judges that could overturn existing judgments. The process of elections to change things may seem a painfully slow and uncertain method, but the Soviet Union under Stalin certainly did not allow such change at any pace. Our history is full of interesting and important cases where what seems to have been established and settled law has been overturned. I think there are some areas regarding privacy where this should happen, and many conservatives think the patriot act is unconstitutional in some areas. Stalin did much more than spy on his own people. He required that those in charge of 'security' for a building/neighborhood report a minimum number of traitors. Of course the result was innocents being falsely reported to make a quota. The supreme court has ruled on this issue. I think it is unreasonable to expect a president in charge of protecting the country from using this legal intelligence gathering method. If there were an attack that could have been prevented with the type of phone # call monitoring now in use, I think the president would have rightly been asked, "Why did you not make use of all available and legal means to find terrorist cells in the US?" I think it would be an unacceptable answer to say, "We did not do that because many people are uncomfortable with it and think the Supreme Court was wrong to allow such a program. Having access to that kind of info could lead to illegal abuses/corruption, etc. and to avoid those troublesome difficulties, I decided that we should not do it. That would go over really great, eh? 6. What crime? The Supreme Court already ruled on this latest NSA program. I can understand that you don't agree, and think it should be considered a crime, but it is not and other presidents that you are more fond of would also be guilty. 8. That was easy. Woman: Well 'ow'd you become king then? (holy music up) Arthur: The Lady of the Lake-- her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am your king! Man: (laughingly) Listen: Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some... farcical aquatic ceremony! Arthur: (yelling) BE QUIET! Man: You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!! Arthur: (coming forward and grabbing the man) Shut *UP*! Man: I mean, if I went 'round, saying I was an emperor, just because some moistened bink had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away! Arthur: (throwing the man around) Shut up, will you, SHUT UP! Man: Aha! Now we see the violence inherent in the system! Arthur: SHUT UP! Man: (yelling to all the other workers) Come and see the violence inherent in the system! HELP, HELP, I'M BEING REPRESSED! Arthur: (letting go and walking away) Bloody PEASANT! Man: Oh, what a giveaway! Did'j'hear that, did'j'hear that, eh? That's what I'm all about! Did you see 'im repressing me? You saw it, didn't you?! People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 10. Yes it is. The weight of the object falling is the force that is balanced with drag when terminal velocity is reached. Gravity is not a force, it is an acceleration. When the acceleration of gravity is multiplied by the mass of an object, you then have the weight of the object due to gravity. Gravity IS a force, actually. It isin't an "acceleration", that makes no sense... A common definition of gravity is: The force exerted by all objects having mass on all other objects having mass. So, yes, I was wrong to say it is not a force. However, the units of gravity are distance/time squared (same units as acceleration) when used to calculate the weight of something by the formula: weight = mass x gravity. If asked how much gravity is there on the surface of the earth, I would answer by saying what the acceleration due to gravity is. If asked what the force of gravity is on a particular object, that answer is actually the weight of the object and the answer will have the units of force only. 13. John, I thought she was a student of yours. I met my wife at the grocery store. We both pulled up and got out our cars at the same time. She was with a friend, both laughing hysterically about something. The first time ever I saw her face she was just glowing with beauty from true laughter, and that can be truly beautiful. We had a meeting of eyes and several flirtive glances during our mutual trip to the beer cooler. I left first, I was in a hurry for some stupid reason, and put a business card on the seat of her car. I swear this was the one and only time I've ever done that. Something told me to not leave without making contact of some kind. A couple weeks later, I returned from an 8 way camp at Abbottsford, and the girl from the grocery store had left a message on my machine, but no number! A couple days later she called again when I was home, We were married less than a year later, almost 14 years ago. Our wonderful sons are 13 and 10 years old now. That's how it started for me. But unless I can touch her heart again, in a couple or so months it will all be over. I am so sad. 14. I think that experience riding off road with dirt bikes is valuable for the street. You get to practice controlling a bike when you've passed the limits of traction. You get to practice going over obstacles that require you to get light on the front or even lift the front wheel and let the bike bounce up under you. You get to practice jumps. You get to practice maximum braking. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 15. Since this issue is so important to you, will you no longer support the political party in charge at the time of the program's creation. I can understand everybody not realizing such a program existed. I can understand a lot of people thinking that it is an important infringement of our privacy rights. I can't understand how the same people are able to assign blame to Bush because they think it will score political points, and hasten the day when the party that is responsible for this program can be back in power. 16. I think the congress is quite worthy of contempt. The balance of powers does not stay balanced if a president complies with every request for information from any congressional agency/dept/subcommittee that makes a request. Some that study such stuff conclude that the power of the executive has been reduced in modern history as the power of the legislature and courts have increased. Certainly the legislature and courts are not shy about asserting their power, why should the executive be passive and give in to their demands? On the subject of declassifying info to use as a political tool, If providing information to assist in being an advocate for his own policies is "using it as a political tool" then so be it. Do you have a concern that the info he declassified should have stayed secret? He has the duty to not just roll over for any every stupid accusation made against him. Can't take the politics out of politics. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 17. Bush didn't start this NSA phone call program. The old law that allowed this program has withstood scrutiny by the Supreme Court. I can understand a lot of complaints about Bush, but I can't see how this should be on the list, and certainly not "the straw that broke the back". 19. For the RSL lanyard to be pulled free from the channels of the container will require some force. The main will depart easier if it doesn't have to pull the RSL lanyard. Also, the lanyard has a shackle on it that can be a snag point, don't want it to hang on to the reserve. 22. That shit makes a lot of sense. It really is amazing that there is no limit for either cars or motorcycles for how powerful they are. In so many other ways are freedoms are limited, but overwhelmingly powerful vehicles have not been affected. I know that I can't resist the temptation to twist the throttle or step on the pedal of vehicles that are so powerful to be entertaining. I also know that I should never own such a vehicle, for I probably won't live very long. 23. Anybody remember Lewmonst's reserve ride that busted her up so bad?. As I remember she had to put it down in a neighborhood with obstacles everywhere. I know from experience what it is like to sink an F-111 7 cell at 1.0 WL, much like an accuracy canopy. I don't recommend doing that at a WL around 1.5 There is absolutely nothing wrong with carrying enough nylon on your back for the rest of your jumping future so that you have a WL around/close to 1:1 The only thing that makes going to a lower WL than that unreasonable is the desire to not be pushed backwards during normally breezy days. Don't let anybody convince you that it will seem too bulky/cumbersome/not worth it when you are more experienced.
