  1. That pic wallows in a vast sea of lameness! It would appear to be a huge insult to the many photographers that submit better quality shots. 2. I was expecting to see some more promotional info/details at your DZ's home site, but it hasn't been updated since before the '05 boogie. 3. The other "normal" activations can be while a main is deployed low, as others have said, and they can also be from a low cutaway, where the jumper pulled their own reserve, but went through the activation altitude during the reserve deployment - therefore no save is credited to the AAD. I would think the the Vigil folks would be smart to at least say that they are considering what might be done to prevent the misfires. To simply slam the door in the face of possible improvements is no good. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 5. Low profile handles are available. I like mine much better than some of the other triangular shaped alternatives, and it uses the standard pocket. It just sticks out from the lift web so much less than the std handle, I have used it once, with excellent results. The cable in this pic doesn't look right because the small handle had not been installed yet, I just put it in the pocket for the pic. 6. Actually, SSK does have units available for use during servicing: The link wasn't working for me, but it is near the bottom, under press releases - Dealer info rent a cypress http://www.cypres-usa.com/ People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 7. So, instead of just speculating, I bothered to read the manual, and apparently I was wrong to assume that 0 on the display after the jump meant that it had not recalibrated to the -300 feet encountered in the plane. The manual makes no mention of what might happen (what will the display show) if you land above the ground reference altitude, it just says that you should turn the unit off/on again before the next jump. If, however, you do apply a preset offset, but the offset was not accurate, then per page 23 of the online version of the manual, the cypres display would change from displaying the preset offset and instead show 0 within 30 seconds of landing, unless the landing site offset was not accurately enough, then it will "not change to 0 right away". The manual doesn't say how accurately the elevation offset must be or how long 'not right away' is. 8. I understand it is not an altitude display, my memory of the cypres manual was that if you landed at an elevation significantly different than the unit expected, that something other than 0 would display. 10. There is still the greater issue of whether the reference ground elevation gets reset, as on the first load that went down 300 feet for a significant period before take off. I wonder how long is required for the system to 'recalibrate' to what it might think is a new DZ ground elevation/pressure. Because my old cypres read 0 after the jump, I think it did not recalibrate, as I believe the display would have shown something different had I landed 300 feet above what it thought was the ground. Even though it read 0 after the jump, I turned it off/on again. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 12. I'm not directing this at Bill, but does anyone know how can they not have already settled on a procedure that works during the trials they did with the FAA before flying out to Rantoul. How can they not have settled on a procedure that works after the first loads on Saturday? Isn't it common for a jet to be providing cooled air from its own pacs (APU powering them) when the door is open, loading passengers? I would really like to know more, such as don't the pilots have full control of the outflow valve positions? They should be able to control the cabin altitude in a full manual mode, as if the automatic system failed, right? I tried to politely ask one of the pilots myself, but it was obvious he didn't really want to discuss details. I probably wouldn't either, because I think it is embarrasing that they hadn't figured it out. To emphasize again, this is not just an issue of preventing reserve activations, it also involves whether the AADs will work correctly if needed. 13. I think it worthy of mention that there have been some failures of links due to overtightening, which can cause the barrel to crack especially on the small versions. 16. I was on the first load (Saturday). It seemed that we went down in altitude 300 feet and stayed there for a long time before we even got to the end of the runway (My altimeter returned to 0 after the jump, confirming the -300 feet altitude in the cabin)The cabin altutude stayed low during the climb until they depressurized at about 8K, with the resulting fog. I am surprised they haven't gotten it figured out yet how to keep the air conditioning pacs on without pressurizing. I am wondering if a cypres will recalibrate itself to a lower elevation during the period the plane was pressurized to below DZ elevation, effectively meaning that it would fire 300 feet lower than normal. I remember that the owners manual says to not descend below the take off altitude (plateau/canyon type scenario). My cypres (old version) was reading 0 after the jump. It would be interesting to know how long it takes before they will adjust to a new ground altitude. 17. Ted was a guy who truly cared when I was hurting. I'll thank him later. I jumped with him on a 6 way RW dive last Saturday. I was kidding him about how funny he looked as he was waving his hands around while trying to move the last 3 feet into his slot next to me (he didn't spend a lot of time flying flat). 20. The "research" you speak of is reading pro-Israel websites and letting that form your opinion because nobody else has posted a link to a pro-palastinian website? You don't know what I've done to understand the history. My comment about the lack of Palestinian support group sites being offered is due to the lack of such info being offered by supporters of their position, they haven't tried to dispute the fact that the Arabs don't want peace, they want to undo what was done by the League of Nations and the UN. I started a thread specifically about how the Hamas charter makes it clear they don't want a negotiated peace. 21. Yes, of course they are biased. They don't pretend to be impartial, as does the NY Times, for instance. If you can find flaws in their analysis of history, etc. then have at it. I've provided a few different websites that obviously support Israel. I haven't seen anyone provide a link to a Palestinian support group as a balance. Perhaps it is too embarrasing to show that such groups are believers in the 9/11 conspiracy bullshit. 22. The question was who started it. Do you consider both sides to be equally at fault in starting the conflict? Obviously I do not. If you ask who is at fault for continuing to feed the flames of the conflict, then both sides have done wrong. The Arabs attacked immediately (as they promised) after the creation of Israel. If that isn't the clearest case of 'they did it first', then I don't know what is. Personally, I don't find the term terrorism very useful. It is just another form of war by a group trying to achieve political objectives with violence (war), and should be treated as such, instead of pretending that it is just a type of criminal act such as an ordinary murder/assault. The hope for resolution of the issue, as I've said before, is for a leader with the courage of Anwar Sadat. I never thought that Ariel Sharon was the right guy on the Israeli side to help the peace process, because of his prior history. 23. Indeed, the op ed article concludes that Zionist involvement in the 9/11 attacks and the cover up by the White House is a forgone conclusion. Do we need any further evidence of their nature? Charles Krauthammer (a regular on Brit Hume's show), writing in Time Magazine, reminds his readers of the origins of this current crisis, debunking the myth of the "cycle of violence": What is so remarkable about the current wave of violence in Gaza is that the event at the origin of the "cycle" is not at all historical, but very contemporary. The event is not buried in the mists of history. It occurred less than one year ago. Before the eyes of the whole world, Israel left Gaza. Every Jew, every soldier, every military installation, every remnant of Israeli occupation was uprooted and taken away. How do the Palestinians respond? What have they done with Gaza, the first Palestinian territory in history to be independent, something neither the Ottomans nor the British nor the Egyptians nor the Jordanians, all of whom ruled Palestinians before the Israelis, ever permitted? On the very day of Israel's final pullout, the Palestinians began firing rockets out of Gaza into Israeli towns on the other side of the border. And remember: those are attacks not on settlers but on civilians in Israel proper, the pre-1967 Israel that the international community recognizes as legitimately part of sovereign Israel, a member state of the U.N. A thousand rockets have fallen since. For what possible reason? Before the withdrawal, attacks across the border could have been rationalized with the usual Palestinian mantra of occupation, settlements and so on. But what can one say after the withdrawal? 24. OK, so you consider me a child. You are good at using words to craft your personal insults. Even if the league of nations and UN were not justified/right to do what they did, it doesn't mean it should be undone now. Just as much of the US was lagely taken by force from others, we are not expected to surrender it. The Arabs have tried repeatedly tried to undo it, by war, and have failed. Much of the worlds boundaries were established by unjust wars. I think what the league of nations and UN did was very reasonable. 25. No joke. He asked a simple question, I gave a straightforward, simple answer. Not everything is different shades of grey. The Arab world decided to not accept the League of Nations and UN decisions after WWI and WWII. They tried to change it by war and repeatedly failed. It is not so complicated.
