  1. Quite right! We can agree on some things. At a very young age, I was using guns and rifles at target ranges with my father, who was a very accomplished competitive target shooter (especially the long distances up to 1000 yards) that owned about 15 rifles. I always helped him do his own reloading. I NEVER had the slightest inclination to play with the guns inappropriately, because there was no mystery to them, I knew what they could do, and knew that I would be able to play with them at the range. The US Supreme Court recently affirmed the issue of how the 2nd amendment should be interpreted. We should also remember the framers of the constitution saw only one issue to be more important than the right to own guns. 2. I'm curious. If that was a strong cause in what we see today, why wasn't my generation that grew up on westerns where there was a shootout every half hour on the streets of didge city terrozing the streets with our ow shootouts? I don't know. Modern films/TV shows it in a much more 'cool' way, makes it seem so much more glamorous, I think. By the way, I have a gun and in general I support gun ownership rights. However I think both sides of the issue are taking unreasonable positions, both sides fearing the slippery slope if they give an inch, no matter what the specific issue at hand. 3. Your theoretical point is not relevant, I think. I understand that the 'vertical' component of the speed (and therefore force) of your head hitting a flat level surface would not be different if you are moving or not. However, there is a lot more that can happen to increase the injury besides your head hitting in a 'vertical' direction. For instance, when you are moving, other objects can be hit while your head is along the ground, and your head can be twisted relative to your body, and there is the issue of severe abrasions. It doesn't matter what you think you remember from Physics 101, your statement is technically correct, but in a way that doesn't matter. 4. I don't understand why people selling gear are willing to pay the fees for ebay autions when the classifieds on this site work so well. I don't think many people that would be buying gear on ebay would be unaware of this site and the free classifieds here. 5. Don't forget how movies and TV shows show us how cool it is to hold a gun sideways while shooting, and when you've got a gun for each hand it is really cool to cross your arms in order to shoot in different directions. 6. What does that bunch of crap have to do with your assertion there is no free press in the US? 7. It doesn't matter that it is a made up fear. I accept the fact that there are stupid people out there that will likely get their panties in a wad. I wish it weren't so, but I think it is. As I said, as such incidents might happen, it will be bad for all of us. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 8. That is the biggest reason that I can't believe the crash was a conspiracy to kill her - the result would be so uncertain, it was a large car from a mfg with a good safety reputation. You might think a person that doesn't normally wear a seatbelt might put one on when the aggressive driving started. 9. As is the design of the vehicle itself. http://www.bridger.us/2002/12/16/CrashTestingMINICooperVsFordF150 The deaths/vehicle as cited in the article aren't very useful because they include deaths of the vehicles they hit, and don't distinguish for belted vs unbelted occupants, and don't include anything for severity of injury - just deaths are reported. I was a chief design engineer at Honda R&D for 10 years, the guys in the crash test group tell me that Honda's lineup now has better crash test results than Volvo's. I've seen a lot of the tests (large and small vehicles - from the Civic to the Pilot/Ridgeline) at the Ohio facility, their performance is very good: http://corporate.honda.com/safety/foreveryone.aspx?from=safety.honda.com If manufacturers did not have to design for both belted and unbelted occupants, the results would be even better, often the design requirements are not compatible. 11. Some hybrid models aren't really designed for delivering just good mileage. The Lexus hybrid models, for instance, are performance oriented instead of mileage oriented. Electric motors are really good at delivering torque at low RPM. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 12. It doesn't matter that it is a hybrid, if you can reduce the temp of the intake air, then it will definitely be a good thing for power and efficiency of the engine. What is a cold air intake? Is it intended to get air from in front of the car instead of some of the air being from under the hood? If that is the case, the manufacturers already do a pretty good job of that, they have a strong interest in getting the most power and efficiency. 16. It looks to me like the crash was not so severe. I wouldn't have wanted to be in it, but it looks like there was no intrusion into the passenger compartment. He likely would have walked away with a sore chest from the seatbelt and such. The news story didn't mention how badly Corzine's driver was hurt, probably not much at all. 17. No more than packing them toggles inward. I guess I was thinking that the risers following the contour from the shoulder to the side of the container get them started 'rotating' in the direction towards them being toggles inward, but of course it can be done otherwise. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  18. I pack my risers the opposite way, and also have never had a problem. Does that mean you put a half-twist in your risers? That seems strange. It seems to me that the designs with secondary riser covers have much less of the reserve tray 'profile' covered than those designs that don't have secondary covers. It seems a good idea to not have so much of the reserve 'profile' covered in the scenario of a reserve activation with the main still in the container. The Infinity rocks! 20. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Plenty of Twin Otter jump planes have been retrofitted with -35 engines and 4-bladed propellers, but that tends to be a one-off field modification covered by a 337 form. I suspect that the primary reason that Viking wants to install -35 engines is that the original -20 engines (installed in DHC6-100 Twin Otters) are long out of production and it is difficult to find spare parts for them. I thought the super otters used the -34 engine, not the -35 with 4 bladed prop? 21. If you have to check your rig, and you don't have a gear bag, the only thing you can do is put it inside the really big, thick, clear baggies the ticket agents will have. That sucks because your rig is visible to all, so it is more likely to get unwanted attention from baggage handlers, and the bags aren't very much protection. A gear bag should add very little in the way of extra bulk. Lots of things are too big to fit into the little plastic test box that all carry on is supposed to fit inside. A gear bag could make the difference, but not likely, I think. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 22. In 2004, the TSA supervisor at Columbus, OH told me that a new std operating procedure (2-3 weeks old) requires (not optional) that I unpack both main and reserve for them. He tells me that the August '03 TSA letter is no longer the latest. Of course I am not allowed to see it. Complete bullshit, but don't think it can't happen to you, meaning be prepared to check it instead of carry on. I think taking a rig on without a gear bag is a bad idea for all of us, because someone might get their panties in a wad, and get security involved because you make them nervous while waiting for your flight. Security might tell the nervous nellie there is nothing to be concerned about, or they more likely will make you check your rig because now a lot of passengers are aware of some security issue - YOU. I don't actually know this has ever happened, but I think it likely it will happen, and the more it happens, the closer we will get to our rigs no longer being allowed as carry-on, because skydivers will be seen as a pain in the ass. In my opinion, when you carry your rig on, you should never want for anyone to know you have it. The entertainment value (the look on their face) of them realizing you have a parachute is not at all worth it. 25. Some cars have the ability to know you have the 'keys' in your pocket and let you in, let you start it without inserting them. Other cars with a push button start switch still need to have keys inserted. The push button start is supposed to make you feel like you're in a race car.
