    How to behave

    Tea anyone? Safe swoops Sangiro
  2. I assume you'e asking about direct uploads as this is not relevant when streaming a YouTube video. It's definately possible... will see what we can do.
  3. Nope, not a Premier service. Your permissions in the database was wrong. I fixed that. Go ahead and try again.
  4. Did the credit card you used to sign up initially expire? Worldpay will automatically renew your membership unless you stop it. When the CC expire they will try a second time and then stop trying. If this happened simply subscribe again - all your Premier features (like PM folders etc) will remain in tact. Safe swoops Sangiro
  5. Heya all, If you haven't seen the post in the Announcements forum....
  6. Heya all, I know a lot of you use YouTube to upload and organize your videos online. We'd still love to see your skydiving videos here on Dropzone.com though so we've added an option to our video section that enables you to stream your YouTube videos through this site. No need to upload your video again, simply select the "Add Video Stream" option when you're ready to Submit a Video and paste the YouTube URL (from your browser) into the appropriate field. Couldn't be easier, we'll even fetch the video for you! You can of course still upload your videos to Dropzone.com directly from your PC hard drive. With the new streaming option you're able to link your YouTube videos to your profile here on Dropzone.com and bring it to where the skydivers are. As with directly uploaded videos, other Dropzone.com members can comment and rate your video right here on the site. This is a great way to continue building your video library on YouTube while at the same time sharing your skydiving clips with the largest skydiving community in the world. Submit your Videos! PS - In the very near future videos uploaded to Dropzone.com, or streamed through this site, will be accessible via your profile in the forums... stay tuned.
  7. Heya all, We are constantly looking for ways to improve and speed up our free email service on Dropzone.com. As with any free mail service spam is a major concern. While we have pretty strong spam-filtering software in place we still have to process every message sent to a dropzone.com email address to determine whether it is spam or not. This loads our servers and drains server resources that ultimately lead to performance issues across the entire site. The following 2 changes that will take effect immediately to help reduce the total amount of spam that gets processed by our mail server and cut down on the number of spam messages already in the system: 1) Email accounts inactive for longer than 6 months will be suspended We will suspend the email accounts (NOT the user account) of members who have not used their Dropzone.com Email account for more than 6 months. This simply means that if you're not using the free email service on Dropzone.com that we will stop processing mail targeted to your account - until you start using it again. All email in a suspended account will remain in the account but no new mail sent to that address will be processed or accepted. Your Dropzone.com account will not be effected at all and you'll be able to use the rest of the site as usual. To activate your account again, simply click on the "Email" link in the navigation bar at the top of any page. The moment you do so your account will start receiving mail again for as long as it is not left dormant for 6 months or longer. 2) Messages older than 30 days in "Spam" folders will be purged We will start running a nightly process that will check all messages in the "Spam" folders of all our active user accounts. Messages in those folders that are older than 30 days will be purged from the system and deleted permanently. These twos steps will dramatically reduce the number of messages we need to process, and cut down on the number of spam messages that exist on our servers at any given time. For those of you who use the Dropzone.com Mail application on a "regular basis" (more than once every 6 months!), this will have absolutely no impact on you... things may just seem a little faster, cleaner and smoother.

The worst thing you can do right about now is to seek out some threads where you can bitch and whine about how you've been wronged. Do a search for all your posts over the last few weeks and months. Take a step back. Unless you do that, believe me when I say, it goes downhill quite dramatically from here.... Safe swoops Sangiro
  10. Here's a prime example of what this post is about. Seems like 90% of what you've been posting recently is the same kind of useless noise. Please find a way to keep yourself in check if you want to continue to enjoy your posting privileges on here. Safe swoops Sangiro
  11. Hey folks, I checked with our ad agency and I do owe you an apology. They served a limited number of pop-unders containing a survey they were doing (not ads). They assured me that it was an error on their part that will not be repeated. Apologies for that. My position on this is and has always been that we will not bombard you with pop-ups and pop-unders. If you spot any of these again in the future, please let me know and I'll be all over it Safe swoops Sangiro
  12. I have not seen any but.... I hate pop-ups. There should be NO pop-ups from Dropzone.com.... ever! If you see any let me know which ads were being displayed on the page when it happened and I will follow up. Instructions to our ad agencies are very clear about this. I do know we've had some issues with 3rd party content in the past and I will certainly ask about any specific ads that may be triggering these. Also, let me know what the content of the actualy pop-up is. Also scan your PC for spyware and other malware... There have quite a few times in the past where someone posts a link on Dropzone.com, a bunch of forum users follow it and the site it links to places malicious software on their computers. Tracking where you came from to that bad site is easy (looking at the referrer) and tailoring your spyware to be activated when that URL is present again in your browser is just as easy. That's how you hide where the bad stuff came from and prolong the life of your malware. Safe swoops Sangiro

  16. Props to you for that, I was thinking something similar except all the gigantic, meaningless words that I can string together are engineering words, not psychology words (or made-up words). Anyway, while I'm sure the paper made a great grad-school psych essay, and I think the author made some correct observations, I really just found it a case of using big, confusing words to hide the fact that he was describing the intuitively obvious. Can you give an example of a meaningless gigantic engineering word? Turboencabulator? Safe swoops Sangiro

Please don't interpret those 2 sentences as the only examples of users who are abusing this platform. My sentiments about those who start these threads and posters who can't wait for the next useless thread to pop up so they can chime in with and even more useless one-liner are exactly the same. Hey all, The Bonfire, like Speakers Corner, is an open forum that was created to provide a platform where skydivers and whuffos can hang out, ask questions, socialize and talk about non-skydiving related stuff. It seems like some people misunderstand what we mean with "open" though.... When we launched the new Forum Rules 4 years ago (yes, it's been that long!) I made a post to help explain what openness means on here. Read the full post if you want but here's a little quote from it: Unfortunately there are users who abuse this forum in exactly the way we did not intend them to. If you are a "loud obnoxious" user who wake up every morning, scour the web for some spam or think of the most useless thread you can come up with to entertain yourself with during the day, then you're abusing this platform. If you try to come up with post after post to enhance your online reputation as the provider of "shock value" then you're doing the same. If you are one of these people, I suggest you take a step back and reconsider your posting habits on this site. It's not fair to expect other users to wade through and around the garbage that you dump here, nor is it fair to expect the moderators to baby-sit individuals who clearly have no interest in helping us create the kind of environment that we're hoping to build here. Contrary to what you think I can assure you your behavior drives away a lot more people than the small group of like-minded posters who jump onto every senseless thread you create to cheer you along. I'm not going to be content with you driving away people from this site. I will gladly see you to the door. I know very well that this message only applies to a small group of people, so I do apologize to the majority who have always been coming here to chat, make friends and have a good time. Let's have fun - keep it clean!
  20. The following scam has been reported: Click here to read more about these kind of scams. Remember: DO NOT do business with anyone who offers to send you payment for a higher amount than your selling price with the understanding that you'll send back the balance. Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be acting on behalf of a "client" or another "customer". Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be from Nigeria or West Africa If you agree to accept a check payment, then do not send anything, gear or "change" before the check cleared. And be careful, if you manage to clear a fraudulent check then you may be liable for the damages if the bank finds out later. Make sure your bank authenticates the check. Canopy collision

Jumper was making a 90 degree turn to land when he was struck by another jumper that was doing a high performance landing turn from a higher altitude. The other jumper was in a coma still a month after the incident.
  22. Sorry about that. Here's a note from my host: Spam volumes are high for all free email account providers. We have no control over how people use their dropzone.com email addresses and where they publish them. Best we can do is to try and manage the the spam best we can - unfortunately for us that requires processing power from our servers. All should be resolved again now. Thank you for your patience.
