  1. I'll gladly answer your 'question'. Dropzone.com does not make a single penny from the annual boogie. Nothing. Which scholarship account would you like me to deposit that into? You actually made the leap by assuming. Safe swoops Sangiro
  2. Spence, Thought I've never met you, I have always and still consider you a friend. You're not going to be treated differently (call it "flexibility" if you want) because you "promote the site" though. No it doesn't, but that's not really the point is it? What you're basically saying is: "As long as I'm out there telling people about Dropzone.com and promoting the site I should be allowed to break the rules and be treated differently." And if that's not what you're saying then I assure you, there's a mighty long line of users who also host boogies and events who can't wait to read it like that. I trust I don't have to spend too much time explaining that slippery slope to you. This is true. Do you just say this or do you actually apply it yourself? Sorry for getting on your last nerve. Sit back and enjoy the site. This forum will still be there when the time comes to start making the list for this event.
  3. Spence, I have pretty strong sentiments about users creating a new thread to bypass some action that was taken by the moderators. Please don't do that again. That aside, there are a few people here who start 'event' threads (usually of a boogie they organize or are closely associated with) 5 months or more before the actual event and then ride it out for as much free publicity as possible for as long as possible. We're not going to baby-sit this thread for the next 5 months. I suggest you wait till we get much closer to the time and then try this again. The Skydive Arizona Holiday boogie still remains the only official DZ.com sanctioned event and we promote it as such on this site whenever we see fit. Safe swoops Sangiro
  4. Then we did not get the same emails. I got email before the site existed to tell me about it's eminent arrival, and none after I checked it out. I'm not sure it's a smart idea to patronize (even if just slightly) such a large portion of your potential visitors while asking them to come visit your site. Good luck.
  5. Hehehe! I somehow ended up on the mailing list for MCN. Got a loads of email while they wee building it to hype up the launch. Checked it out when it finally got going. Safe swoops Sangiro
  6. Regardless of Gary's (positive) experience, I advise that you never do business with anyone who request a Western Union transfer. Western Union payments feature in a very high percentage of the attempted scams on this site. It's a simple way to reduce a lot of risk. Ask for a phone number and call whomever you're dealing with - don't be lazy! A 5 minute phone call and a few pointed questions makes it really easy to filter out scammers before you ship off your $3000 rig into the unknown. Safe swoops Sangiro
  7. The following scam has been reported: Click here to read more about these kind of scams. Remember: DO NOT do business with anyone who offers to send you payment for a higher amount than your selling price with the understanding that you'll send back the balance. Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be acting on behalf of a "client" or another "customer". Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be from Nigeria or West Africa If you agree to accept a check payment, then do not send anything, gear or "change" before the check cleared. And be careful, if you manage to clear a fraudulent check then you may be liable for the damages if the bank finds out later. Make sure your bank authenticates the check. 8. We suspend his account every time we find out about him and as soon as we find out about him. he egisters new ones from time to time. But think about it a bit. If he sends out 100 emails before somebody lets us know that he's just registered a new username, then he's established contact with 100 people. After that you communicate via email with each other. Nothing we can do about that. My suggestion to people who sell gear on here is simple: There's a security setting that allows you to choose how long a person need to be a member before they can contact you (we do have control over the initial contact). Simply set that to "60 days - 2 Months" (or higher!) when you list your gear. There may be a few legitimate users who have not been members for that long who may want to contact you but that's the trade-off. Scammers will VERY seldom register a username and come back in 2 months to use it. They want immediate results. You can do a lot to control who contact you and mitigate your risk in the classifieds. We will continue to disable accounts the moment we confirm somebody is trying to scam our users. Safe swoops Sangiro

    Hard opening

Jumper had an opening that was hard enough to render him unconsious and unable to deal with the turn that his canopy was in. The canopy remained in this turn until he struck the ground.

    CRW wrap

Jumper was involved ina world record attempt and on one of the warm up jumps was involved in a CRW wrap at approx 5000 feet. The second jumper successfully cutaway but this jumper was still entangled in both canopies. The second canopy had part fo the fab

  12. This is sad news indeed. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Safe swoops Sangiro
  13. It's not one of your designs. Without prejudice to my sentiments about your business ethics I have no intention of getting myself worked up about this. Lee from Velocty Sportswear wanted to do something similar a while ago. They showed me the courtesy of asking and I explained to them why I prefered they didn't. They respected that wish and I now hope people will spend money at their t-shirt store instead. Happy holidays all!

    Spining main canopy

Jumper lost consciousness after opening. During the opening one toggle was released leading to a spinning main canopy. The jumper was unable to take any action to release the other toggle and hit the ground prior to resuming consciousness.

  16. Oh nothing that heavy I can assure you. I just love those 2 pictures because she looks like a little "girl" in them. She's a happy little soul and will crack a smile at anything that moves.
  17. Heya all, If you'll allow me to be a dad for minute. Over the least 10 months a lot of people have been asking how Anmarie is doing. Thank you for that. As you can see, she's doing great! In a world where things are often uncertain and somewhat confusing, this to me remains so clear it boggles the mind. She's an awesome little blessing.
  18. Happy B'day Scott! Safe swoops Sangiro

    Low Cutaway

Jumper was doing a solo jump on a sunset load mid week. He was found 2 days later in the middle of a field. He appears to have sort of high speed malfunction on the main canopy and then proceded to cutaway at a low altitude. The reserve was out of its bag
  20. Those are not facts, it's your opinion and it's wrong.... in my opinion. Be careful how you tread from here. Safe swoops Sangiro

    OK Why...

Tonto has spent countless hours volunteering his time on Dropzone.com. I think we can agree that his relationship with this site is unlike yours, and that of "all the other people". When a friend of yours die, feel free to burn a candle or do whatever you want. I won't ask you why you're not doing it for everyone. This is my candle. Safe swoops Sangiro
  22. Folks - this breaks my heart... Eric (Tonto) Stephenson died earlier to day from multiple trauma injuries after a swooping incident at JSC. Tonto was moderator on Dropzone.com and a good friend. I don't have words at this time. He'll be missed on so many levels. Thank you! Thanks Tonto. Good bye my friend. To his family, friends and especially Taya, my thoughts and prayers. Safe swoops Sangiro
  23. You'll be missed ol' buddy. Cheers Beezy. Safe swoops Sangiro
  24. Jumper had completed a 270 degree front riser turn in preperation for landing. After this time he switched for his rear risers to level out and it appeared that he lost a riser and tried to regrab it but was too late and struck the ground. The jumper came
