  1. Come and play down Aussie way, we got lots of low stuff, can we swap locations
  2. Ask your local CRW guys, they do it all the time. I seen them get out holding their canopy Didn't even pack it (well they put the slider up only). Practise your very deep brake approaches and landings, it's also the ideal time to dial in your deep brake settings. ps. Only do slider off jumps from a balloon and stationary helo's, not more than 3 seconds
  3. Yep, I remember too It must be Karma Robin What goes around comes around buddy
  4. It's my play-ground and you can't play... Naa naa You're not invited to my inaugural big ball bandit base boogie
  5. Ditto, I didn't know anyone else felt it; It's so hard to describe accurately. That time of total calm, that total micro focus in the now, when all your actions feel pre-ordained, and nothing else exists. I don't like to jump until it happens and I find it easier on 'E's and solos, just sitting at the edge, looking out from the exit, feeling the emptiness and it just happens, and I jump. It's almost like there's no choice.

    South Africa

PM Me. Western Cape has some lekker sites.
  7. Try braided fishing line, Spyder Wire or similar. The line ratings are fairly accurate including the knot. i.e. 30kg's knotted with a bowline breaks at approx 29kg.
  8. I'm pretty sure there's a similar exit point just to the right of this one
  9. Hold the bridle, toss the PC up just before the apex of your launch, and try JU's super mushroom http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=933902;search_string=Super%20mushroom;#933902

    lookin to learn

If you can't find any locals. Read everything you can, do a bunch of 7 cell accuracy jumps, and then do a first jump course with the guys in Norway. If it's easier for you to get to South Africa send me a PM.
  11. Methinks, Troll... But if not, get to Lysebotn and you can't miss the cliff from there. Take a stroll to the top(the third hill is the easiest) Don't go to exit #7, it's way to hard, and much too far to walk. But you can take a 10 sec delay off exit#3, and look out for the large landing area on the slight slope. Have fun.

    42" PC From 300'?

I guess it would be to do with how fast the PC loads the rig, or "snatch force". At 1 second an average jumper is travelling at around 9.5 m/s and the t(L) time over which the load is initially generated is around 5.3kg/0.2sec (at bridle stretch the time taken for the PC to inflate) for a 42" PC compared to 6.9kg/0.22sec for a 48" PC. Therefor generating an extra 1.6 kg's drag over roughly the same time. The drag builds comparatively slowly from this point until at 4.5 seconds (295ft) the drag is 97Kg's for the 48" and 74Kg's for the 42". Most interesting though is at around 2.5 seconds (97ft) the drag is 39Kg's for the 48" and 29Kg's for the 42". Experiment : Velcro rig suspended flap down (new Velcro), 5.3kg weight tied at 1ft on the bridle with some break cord and a large tandem sized rubber stow (to simulate the time load 0.2ish seconds). Drop the weight. I found that 22 times out of 100 the Velcro did not peel or peeled partially. I then did the same with 6.9kg's; The Velcro peeled 94 times out of 100. I then loaded the closed rig with 30kg (slowly) and it peeled every time, but when I angled the rig at a 45' it didn't peel. Conclusions: A 42" PC at or under one second the Velcro may not peel and if you're slightly head down you could find yourself at 2.5 seconds with a PC in tow.
  14. Naa Ray, ya too much of a lard-ass.

    42" PC From 300'?

48/46" depending if its a go and throw or not... If you toss at under a second you could tow a 42' all the way down. A 42" PC at 1 second only develops around 5.3 kg's drag. A 46" 6.3 kg's A 48" 6.9 kg's
  16. S1 x 5 - 265ft E1 x 2 - 800ft E2 x 8 - 600ft A1 x 1 - 350ft E1 x 11/12? - 800ft E3/4/5/6 X 70ish - 200ft to 800ft B1 hasn't happened yet
  17. Pretty much all our (Aus) E jumps are low < 300... I'd avoid the troll for slider down jumps, you should read Tom's comments on the Troll; http://www.blincmagazine.com/reviews/Gear/Parachutes/troll/index.html

  19. No worries Mick, I don't post much anyway. Blinc is still the best source for technical info though
  20. Also someone at Blinc has not only erased but also edited some of my posts, to the extent that the entire meaning was changed, and you end up with a locked thread full of posts you didn't make.

  22. 2 x PCA's off a S in RSA for parachute jumps 97 and 98. Then I had a long layoff for over 5 years, and started again with a solo go n' throw off the mountain in Cape Town RSA for jump # 567.

    Naming Names

Hey Tom, surely naming legal sites in RSA is not a problem, the Captour (Cape tourism company) talk about BASE jumping from the cable car and mountain as a bit of a tourist attraction. There are the obvious E's for anyone in the Western Cape, 'BASE dangerous' or not. Naturally contacting a local who could advise you about a specific site would make sense, but other than that, 'BASE dangerous' people are going to jump anyway. Besides if you die in RSA no one in authority (police etc.) are going to care that much.
