  2. (oooo, oooooo! let me play too....) ---- So you are on record with Dems standing outside a polling area with billy clubs and that is no problem. 4. so what you're saying is Hillary's 'vast right wing conspiracy' is, in reality a 'vast left wing - vast right wing conspiracy' supported by the media and illuminati layers within layers within layers most likely the whole crowd on both sides are dupes and the center of the web is likely Alec Guiness holding all the strings we are through the looking glass, people ... 5. Yup. The 'but your candidate did X, Y times worse than mine' response is a large part of the reason we're left with 2 entirely unlikable people who are going to be elected without many people really knowing what their policies are. It's far easier to talk about scandals and behavior to drum up viewership or incite emotion around a watercooler than it is to talk about education or voting reform, and we're all to blame... I want to say that more than 95% of posts about either Hillary or Trump in here will get a response of that type within 3 replies. It's really lazy. only 2 ... 6. It's a boy cries wolf thing. Anything between now and Tuesday (and pretty much the last couple weeks for that matter) from either side is likely just best ignored. It's pretty clear that no line exists that politicians are willing to cross. ... 8. Perhaps the most effective solution would be to "PRE-Impeach" both of them. Then whichever gets in, can be immediately escorted out and we can take whoever succession planning gives us. ... 10. silly - it's not the same result if you don't tax it, tons of politicians and administrators don't get to take their 'cut' and taxes go to pay for roads and poor people and rain forests and children and women and soldiers....why do you hate soldiers? you have to take money from soldiers so soldiers can get their money - isn't it obvious? ... 11. I wasn't replying to you specifically. I agree with you on the tax comment. I'd extend it to all sources of income for all categories of people. 12. Kind of a 'so what' moment here for those paying attention. Weld and Johnson (Weld much more blatantly) have been very clear on how little they think of Trump pretty much the entire campaign. This is just more of what we already know. For that matter - I don't even need Weld to tell me this stuff. Trump has made it pretty obvious all by himself. The only thing here I notice compared to the everyday spewing from the Dems and the media is that Weld puts it forth in a more direct way, without the vitriol and extra fiction. Weld is more classy than the either of the front runners, or the two VP candidates - which makes it more digestible to anyone that isn't just frothing for the daily manufactured insult fest between the two main parties. (so a lot less chance of the automatic "here they go again, I think I'll listen to a Podcast instead of this again") ... 13. I'm a vet, and I don't have a general knee jerk response here. The IRS comes after people all the time for tax errors that need to be refunded - etc etc etc - there is lots of analogies. I'm definitely not a fan of just yanking it back without considering the short term impact to those that are living tight to budget already....which is a LOT of enlisted people and many times lower ranked officers too. but: there's likely a range of situations here Group A - Likely decent guys that really thought they were getting an offer and a bonus, and they re-upped mainly for this offer and nothing else. They met their side of the contract and we need to be sure they keep their bonus. Group B - Clearly obvious to them at the time that they didn't qualify and they took the bonus anyway knowing it wasn't right and likely shady. That's pretty much fraud. Why should they keep it? and then everyone in the spectrum in between. The problem is I doubt there is a way (that would be net cost effective) to examine each individual case and figure out who fits into what group - let alone those in the grey areas between the obvious ends. So I'd have to default with take the good with the bad and let all of them have a process to let them make claim to keep. ... 15. not surprising - philosophically speaking, any Federal solutions would entrench the status quo more than pushing down to where change is possible.... it's the essence of finding the balance between social cooperation and authoritarianism (with its plus and minus) vs freedom (with its plus and minus) - and pretty much the content of most of the threads on this forum ... 16. Because as long as the rules allow shenanigans, shenanigans will take place. I'm completely unclear why so many people are against Federal solutions to certain issues. I don't mean they're against Federal regulations in a particular case, but simply as a matter of course. To me, we could eliminate a HUGE amount of duplication of effort if we accepted that certain things are better dealt with at the Federal level. It seems to me that a lot of the same people who rail against "big government" end up arguing in favor of "even bigger government due to duplication of effort." that's a fair way to present it, Quade. I'm with Billvon's response on it (initial responses to anything have to be consistent with my general philosophy - refine from there, but I'll always start there). Though we are talking about some of the election being to vote in federal positions, the elections are still a state run endeavor - so leap frogging immediately to fed control is still too eager. Even more so for primaries as they are even further removed from fed level administration. I also think my starting response, then, was accurate - I didn't mis-state your proposition, I understood it correctly as did the others. (though I'd take the snark down now if I could - or make it funnier so it didn't bite). thanks ... 17. Gosh....everything looks like a nail..... I guess the primaries are flawed because they got what their membership allowed them to have. Whether they fix themselves from within, or by some weird expansion of government power over the parties, or by an even weirder expansion of federal bullying the states even more - we're still talking symptoms and not cures. I suspect things won't get better at all until we have another option than the two failed parties in charge now - and it's unlikely they'll quietly and gracefully allow that to happen. (Obviously, I also only have a hammer, I just see a different nail. But I do admit what kind of hammer I have.) ... 18. Thanks for completely misrepresenting what I said. Internet points to you? I guess? nonsense - if you can't explain yourself clearly ("go read Alan's post where he proposes a hypothetical for the private parties to move to - for discussion purposes"), then don't blame the 5 other people that have replied the same as I did ... 22. well, that's not as fun (but I agree - most people mean well and just operate from differing assumptions. That's why when I see an ad that pretty much calls a candidate pure evil, it's more likely to have the exact opposite effect than intended - I'll assume the candidate being supported in the ad has nothing to offer and is likely attempting a smear campaign based on falsehoods and misrepresentations. I find it funny when it happens in local elections since the voter usually have enough direct experience with the candidates that the falsehoods are usually VERY obvious. They seem to think the national campaign model would apply locally - or they are just too lazy to come up with a better playbook than the default) ... 24. once we get a legitimate 3rd party in play (or more) - then certainly we'll need congress to rethink the electoral college method. with more than two parties, 272 isn't a magical number any more at all. I wonder if they would. It certainly would increase their power if they have a higher likelihood of getting to decide the presidential elections. ...
