  2. Is this a 'free speech' issue really? The government is not stopping her. People on campus are. Isn't the real issue one of simple crime? 1 - they are using physical violence against others - arrest them 2 - they are blocking individuals from getting around - arrest them - this is another form of violence - if a gang of men were doing this to a woman, it would be very serious. Frankly, If any group does this to any individual, it should be just as serious 3 - it is very likely that these people would physically attack Miss Coulter if she arrived. why isn't the university, and the city law enforcement concerned about that the specific actions are what should be addressed. it really is shameful that a college, and law enforcement won't protect it's own members from violence - nor a visitor to their campus. the actual crimes being committed are being ignored because idiots are trying to make this into a social issue. stop it. ... 4. And so it begins. The idiot sounds like ending the program is to financially save the people of the state. OUR HERO!! (sarcasm) Or he could just admit that the program isn't necessary and it's silly to send money after something that doesn't need it. Or if he's a enviro-freak, he could just say that the program met its goal successfully and they are now putting it down. either of the last two would at least be a bit less self serving ... 5. and from the article: ***Wind producers have invested more than $12 billion in Oklahoma, creating up to 9,000 jobs and paying almost $134 million in property taxes since 2004. Yeah. The wind industry is clearly killing the OK economy. oh no! an industry is doing just fine and doesn't need a government program to prop it up? What will the poor Okies do? (the fact that there was a tax credit program in the land of wind just indicates a hugely irresponsible policy fail in the first place) ... 8. I don't see why a president has to present his own plan at all. Laws are the responsibility of the legislature. If the president recommended a vision of a bill, then this one sucked (don't change much, change "Obama-Care" title to "Ryan-Care" and claim victory (all the while making it even more expensive just to claim a false win). It's legislative bill, the failure is with the legislature. Seems the real way to address this is to claim that this bill attempted to find some kind of consensus proposal was flatly rejected by the entire Dem contingent and even members within the party (for polar opposite reasons). Now that it's clear that the opposition opposes soley based on a "no" stance to anything proposed. (Seriously, if a Rep proposed single payer, it would still get zero Dem votes). So admit it and state that indicates, that a 'compromise' is not possible. And they should immediately draft a 'repeal and don't replace' plan right away and try to drive that along party lines. Politically, it puts the consequences upon those that voted no to a compromise and forced an all or nothing scenario. And gets repeal moved forward, instead of just 'pass a law in name only' - it would do something. And this time some idiot former entertainer wouldn't need any ballot box tampering to get in for the swing vote. They already have them. It's the same tactic that got the ACA in place, "we have the numbers, so the rest of you can suck it". But now the other way. And then play pingpong every four years until the planet melts Trump was an idiot for 'endorsing' a plan that was only cosmetic in nature anyway. That's what happens when you play politics and don't know how to do it right. Politics sucks. for christs sake, we even heard a couple reps state "you have to pass to see what's in it" - these assholes have no shame D or R However, this way we get to see the press overplay this result too in a tiring and partisan way for days and days and days - so at least we got that going for us. ... 9. No it doesn't. Let's say I keep screaming that I am going to do something against the law, say I keep telling you that I am going to kill you. After loudly proclaiming for a year that I am going to kill you. Then one day I say, just kidding, I am not going to kill you, I am just going to maim you. Let me just go buy this gun. Do you think a judge should temporarily ban me from owning a gun, until the situation can be looked into further? You're point is interesting, but I know what 'you are REALLY trying to do here'. So I'll ignore the actual words you wrote and just assume you are really just wanting to advocate for laws that control what people say in public. and, we'll ignore that obvious parts of your post like: 1 - the total disregard of your obvious cries for help and the subsequent ignoring of a possible mental condition that needs treatment instead of hostility 2 - the advocation of a judge to take away private property rights even though no crime has been committed 3 - your subtle threats on my life in the post (for the slow people - this whole thing is written tongue in cheek for the slow people - you know who you are..........maybe you don't know who you are......) 10. ^^^ It opens some really scary doors. But, hey, those doors, and doors like that, have been opening on a regular basis for some time now. Judges don't have time to address the content of the documents when they 'just know' what's 'really being thought by people. 12. Nicely put - I tend to extend the 'protest vote' concept to beyond just anti-HRC, but anti-status quo, anti-career politician. Just because you can't stand one candidate in no way automatically makes the other one some kind of ideal. I'm perfectly capable of being disgusted with both choices. People are too binary (or they are not). as for the experiment - it was fun to watch. the woman really nailed the hand gestures and posture, she likely had a great time with it but I don't find it scientific nor would draw any conclusions other than "people design experiments to try to validate their preconceptions" -the fact that they admitted that was their purpose and also admitted the results showed they were wrong and didn't try to rationalize it away, and that it made them think a bit, gives hope too it's just an entertainment exercise ... 17. It is unfortunate that not only do you believe that, but also willingly promote that myopic opinion. Maybe you are the one exception. Most of what I read is disparaging. 20. the turning point for the game - bad choices there by Atlanta With no preference in this game, normally I'd have rooted for the Pats just for fun. But the way the Falcons played against Green Bay made me a temporary fan. That game showed some greatness. 22. Well, that mumbling bum on the bus can't perform an abortion. The woman needs a doctor to perform the abortion, and so the doctor needs to agree as well. If abortions were easy and could be done by the woman then I would remove "and her doctor." Maybe they will be someday. But outside of RU-486 (which has very limited applicability) the woman will always need a doctor to get an abortion, and he has to agree to do it - so he has to be included. she can find another doctor willing if he legally is able to refuse - that's not my point about 'who chooses' - everything in that paragraph after the part you quoted goes into that... I'd hope you understand what I mean by who is making the choice - not providing the procedure, not consulting, just the choice. By your argument, I can't say I choose to buy a candy bar, I have to say my choice to buy a candy bar is between me and my cashier. If we want to talk about the 'between' part, well, HER choice is also 'between' whoever the heck she WANTS to include. Includes her doctor? yes, but anyone else she chooses. Maybe the confusion is I'm talking about the act of choosing itself, maybe you are talking about the procedure specifically.... then I get you ('doctor' being shorthand for the entire crew needed for the procedure) 'and my doctor' also, to me, is a bit isolatory to the woman as well, as if it devalues her options to consult with anyone else about HER decision. The doctor is the service provider - her 'choice' is not his business, his is solely just whether or not he takes her business. She can "choose" how much to value his input - but input isn't a decision. Else we'd have to include the support staff, nurse, clerks, insurance, the pharmacist, etc etc etc as her choice is between (everything else needed to conduct the procedure)..... let's simplify it and say the choice is 100% hers, and no one should insert themselves into that choice without her invitation or agreement....for any reason ... 23. highly active political people are now complete and unapologetic assholes about how they approach their politics - open eyes - don't look far, don't just look at people you disagree with. probably a big contribution is the anonymity of social media - and clearly we've also confused the concepts of 'strong, confident and independent - yet courteous' with 'mean and dismissive and rude'. Wanting to be strong and considerate has been replaced with weak, whiny and bullying Being "honest" should mean direct and clear and respectful, but instead people can only seem to be in your face, rude and mean about it. It would be interesting to see what social pressures have evolved that reality. It's like honesty isn't the goal, it's just an excuse to be an asshole. you don't have to pick one side of the aisle, and you can't claim it's just this election cycle not sure why anyone is surprised that it's made it's way into high office ... 25. Delete the red bits and this is me. (Just leap frogging off of Bill's note, nothing particularly confrontative, Bill, just a good post to leverage from) 1 - If I don't consider that I have the right to tell someone else what to do, then my personal opinion on the topic is interesting, but moot (so if I'm personally anti or not is not part of my position on laws that affect others and I think the statement is more powerful/defined if I don't add that either way - YMMV. And if my position is leave it up to the fetus bearer, then my personal position as a man is moot, I'll never have a fetus, so it's a bit "so what" position) 2 - Choice comes down to one person. So that's the woman. She can consult with whoever she wants. the might include the doctor, but it can also include her family, friends, total strangers, a mumbling bum on the bus.....whoever. Saying the woman 'and the doctor' does two things - it gives an illusion of respectability to the woman's choice - it may or may not be true, either way, it's moot. It gives the 'chooser' a feeling that she has partially divested herself of a choice that is 100% hers, not 50/50, not 90/10, but 100% then we are fooling ourselves and doing a disservice to the concept of personal freedom. the doctor is a service provider and has some info she 'should' get - fine. With authority HAS to come ownership of the results and consequences. that's what choice of all kinds means. Responsibility/choice always comes down to ONE person. http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/337667-responsibility-is-a-unique-concept-you-may-share-it-with where I divert from the choice crowd mainly is I don't think we should pay for it. But that's not really a choice aspect, it's a generalize public health care issue. But don't let that stop people from trying to bundle up issues to make them more complicated to debate. - and I don't believe in sugar coating it (you are killing 'something' that very well would become a baby. suck it up, that's the choice - and I still believe it's up to the woman) Abortion is a difficult and hightly subjective (Situational?) topic, as such, trying to legislate it or fit it into a box that applies to everyone is just wrong. As such, you have to leave that decision to the individual - and the best individual has to be the woman carrying the (fetus, baby, whatever you want to call it). Leaving choices to the individual is pretty much the right decision for so many topics....too bad government and nosy know-iot-all citizens don't respect the individual enough to let them. ...
