    I feel dirty

This guy won twice. A property developer, George Traykov, who has won the lottery twice dismissed his extraordinary luck yesterday, insisting that skydiving was better than winning the jackpot. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/9930671/George-Traykov-Double-lottery-win-I-would-rather-skydive.html
  3. I don't think an AAD would have done any good either. I think a Skyhook may have. Again may have. In reference to the recent Eloy fatality what appears to me to have happened is it was a low speed malfunction at a lower altitude and to much time was spent trying to fix it or not. With a high speed mal clearly it's a problem which demands emergency procedures immediately. With a low speed mal there can be a false sense that "Oh this isn't that bad I can fix this. Very dangerous and this is why a firm hard deck needs to be established. Again I am only speculating here about the Eloy incident.
  4. I once had wealth, power, and the love of a beautiful woman. Now I only have two things: my friends, and... uh... my thermos. My story? Okay. It was never easy for me. I was born a poor black child. I remember the days, sittin' on the porch with my family, singin' and dancin' down in Mississippi...

  6. No I am thinking about it but now open higher than I have in the past. For me personally what I want to see from myself is developing a pattern of opening higher. Also in checking my alti-track afterwards and then comparing deployment altitude to the altitude I am under my fully opened main. Once I am satisfied with this I do believe I will set it to 1000 AGL... not much of a difference granted but it is a nice easy round number to have in my mind. Although what does concern me most is not being conscious, that is why I have an AAD. I have removed myself from certain groups when it exceeds my comfort level. Such as Zoo tracking dives. I don't like 'em.
  7. Same here. I had a conversation a couple months ago. Jumper was new and had 94 jumps. Cutaway and reserve deployment barely over the tree tops. The conversation gave me chills. This persons decision making was influenced by the seller of used gear who didn't have an RLS and didn't feel like "they" needed one. I see this a lot. People influenced by others into making poor choices. The fact that they were still alive reinforced the poor choice they were influenced into making. It's as easy as telling a new jumper.... "come on you're not stupid are you"? .... (new jumper) uh, well no I'm not.
  8. As is always the case a hypothetical question is presented due to a certain incident (eloy). What always follows are varying examples and opinions that don't apply to the reason the question was presented. Often it takes me more time to write a reply than it takes to complete a skydive and land. Friday Freakout: Low Cutaway, Open By 650 Feet! This video below is a perfect example of how jumpers believe cutting away, getting stable and then deploying a reserve are their EP's. In the event of a low cutaway this jumper would have ran out of TIME and ALTITUDE Friday Freakout: Sketchy Cutaway Fly-By With the latest Eloy Incident it appears to me from the facts presented that an AAD would have been of little help. However the use of a Skyhook may have. Again I say "may have" because the facts have only been hinted at with no real official report. Time is the killer, when there are fatalities it seems jumpers have run out of time although they attempted to do what they were trained to do in the time they had.... they simply ran out of time and it comes down to seconds or less. Anything that shifts the odds in my favor such as an AAD, an RSL or a Skyhook improve my odds. I can't believe the subject is even debated here. Look at the fatalities over just the last 12 months of jumpers who deployed their reserve to low for it to be of any use. From what I am aware of none of these jumpers used an RSL or an MARDS. Bill Booth makes a very intelligent case regarding the activation height of AAD's and the use of RSL's and MARDS. As is often the case personal opinions are presented which contradict proven facts. I simply don't get it.
  9. I had heard a report that due to this incident all Swiss helicopters are no longer flying any wingsuit pilots to altitude.
  10. I have discovered there are many other sites that kids are using. Vine.co is one of them. I recently ran across another one... forget which one it is but again a video site. Kids are uploading video directly from their phones and posting it for all their friends to see.... all the while it's like you can hear a parent in the background saying "you're not using Facebook are you honey... and the kid answers truthfully yes mom". Meanwhile they are posting video of the latest outfits they bought at the mall. One I came across was really rather unsettling for a parent because it was clearly underage teens in tiny dresses, itty bitty bikinis and appeared to have a large social following.

  12. Don't honestly know. It's a form a harassment because it never ends. It's always been one scheme or another, after another. Often it's infuriating because this person would even go as far as reporting to the police that I am armed and dangerous all the while having life insurance in place without my knowledge or consent..... I even get this....the above post sounds crazy right.... there yaa go, now I'm crazy.
  13. I've looked into the legalities of it and no insurable interest exists. I had heard years ago a distant family member took out a massive life insurance policy on his mother. When she passed due to cancer it was quite the payday. I'm a little annoyed by it. Seems like there is a vulture sitting on the fence waiting to pounce.

    Dust Devil

I was once about 12 miles offshore fishing for dolphin and had a waterspout touch down very close to the boat. Sargasso was getting sucked upwards like those tumbleweeds. I thought it was pretty exciting until it formed into a major thunderstorm. It became too exciting very quickly for a 24' fishing boat that far from shore.
  15. "Despite the FBI’s claims, Miller vehemently maintains that he is the rightful owner of every single item and that he obtained them completely legally". “He is being cooperative, and so far, everything is going well,” said FBI spokesman Paul Bresson. Good luck with that. This 91 year old man will not have the financial resources nor the time to fight the gubberment over anything they do. Further regulatory regimes covering exotic and endangered animal and plant material make it dangerous to let the feds anywhere near your high-end guitar or other wooden artifact, and will soon make it unlawful to sell or move across state lines your family’s antique ivory-keyed piano (more here). P.S. Coverage at broadcaster WISH-TV makes the SWAT-like federal occupation of Don and Sandra Miller’s property (an FBI “command center” and “massive tents” now surround the family’s home) seem even more appalling. Locally famous for his collecting, Miller has been anything but secretive about his holdings, which were featured in a four-part series in a local newspaper. http://www.cato.org/blog/fbi-seizes-antiquities-first-asks-questions-later

  17. When Andi Essex got an eyeful of Don Miller’s gigantic basement collection of artifacts he’s acquired from his travels around the world, she was enthralled. “It’s unreal,” Essex told WISH-TV in Indianapolis, adding that the “full skeleton is what blew my mind” and that her “favorite” was Miller’s piece of Hitler’s bunker. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/04/03/what-a-91-year-old-man-has-been-keeping-in-his-basement-got-him-a-visit-from-the-fbi/ The 91-year-old is a veteran, former teacher, and was part of the Manhattan Project which created the atomic bomb — and over eight decades has traveled to more than 200 countries, collecting and bartering for artifacts along the way. “He’s just a very interesting, interesting guy,” Essex told WISH. Apparently the FBI agrees. Federal agents took over Miller’s home in Waldron, Ind., about 35 miles southeast of Indianapolis, on Wednesday because they believe some of his artifacts may violate several treaties and could have been “acquired improperly.”

  20. That's been my thought since day 3, and certainly since they confiscated the flight simulator from the PIC's home. Ain't it weird how they got mum on that all of a sudden like? Best- Richard The entire affair is weird if you ask me. Something is being concealed. This answers all the questions I ever had about this flight. http://tinyurl.com/qx2aqee
