  1. I do it a lot, have dozens of video from the GoPro with nine+ guys that can go fuck themselves screaming Go, Go, Go. I think it looks short, and sometimes it is but I don't land out. Or do I put the last out tandems long by spotting? I'm not jumping a canopy the size of my mother-in-laws bra and feel comfortable lading anywhere anyway. Do I turn around and tell the entire plane to shut their mouths? Because I'd like to close the door sometimes for those with big mouths and not eyes but I don't think I'd jump much at that DZ any longer afterwards. So your guess is incorrect. And is this on the first load of the day, or does the pilot often fade in and out of his days and flight operations? I'm betting the nine guys with the big mouths can't fly a plane, and the pilot is more reliable. Ultimately my eyes are my own judge for my life as I pointed out, but every-time that light turns green the people who can't see anything have the loudest mouths. And even being the first out on any given load (morning or afternoon) doesn't stop the yelling. Point being, spotting, it very rarely applies ever in practice. And I've always thought the screaming Go, Go, Go, was damn near an inflight emergency they way it's conducted daily just about everywhere I ever been.
  2. First I'd need to know which one is the idiot because this hypothetical leaves a lot to be desired. Does it really matter?
  3. Who does it anymore, in skydiving actually over an operating DZ? Obviously if you look out and you're somehow over a lake I wouldn't jump. But all I've ever seen for the most part is a green light and I'm in the exit order somehow. The only time I've actuality spotted in 600 jumps where the hot air balloon jumps, and I've landed off fewer times than that.
  4. Funny to think that at a world meet of the future the jumpers eventually end up looking like Nascar cars.
  5. I've seen guys jumping in these. http://shop.foxhead.com/store/products/Pants/detail/Fox-MXON-360-Intake-Pant/51326/cat20062?defaultColor=019&categoryNavIds=cat20006%3Acat20026%3Acat20062
  6. I haven't done many lately and they were always fun. I once went out at 5500 and took 24 seconds, was under an open canopy at 1600' Oh the stupid things I've done.
  7. from Skydive Sebastian... Loads will be going all day, every day this week. Rhythm will be here training starting tomorrow! And there are many other fun jumpers around. So come out and join in the fun! You are SO over that "going to work" thing anyway, right?
  8. ...and it's never like those first handful of jumps again anyway. Enjoy where you're at and relax.
  9. Those are now called weapons of mass destruction. Hopefully I'll be on a beach somewhere with three black hookers.

I only pay attention to others when I encounter them. As for hating anything.... life is to short for that but I do dislike muddy boots in my truck if that helps you.

You are aware that this is not an original thought. Hopefully though you're on to something because there are far to many uptight, hypocritical and self-righteous people as it is right now.
  12. I am sure there is an incident behind this poster somewhere. Dying I'm not afraid of, it's ending up like this poster. That scares the hell out of me.

  14. understanding that this group of highly skilled jumpers are making very high speed technical jumps with hours of tunnel time training hundreds if not thousands of times for an upcoming national or state record they're too busy to say hello to people. I've always found that if you say "Hi" first nearly everyone is approachable, friendly and easy to speak with but a lot of people are also very busy. It's a preconception not accurate in my own experience.
  15. I hate when that happens https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GK777OsbY4U#t=28
  16. other than it being "newsworthy" because of the rail closure. I thought it was a positive write-up for a minor tandem chop.
  17. Not quite an incident. Skydiving cures PTSD? A man had a "close call" more than 1000 metres over Wollongong yesterday after his tandem skydiving instructor was forced to cut loose their primary parachute. Rick Hughes was making his first jump after his partner Melody Renes received two tickets for Skydive the Beach tandem jumps for her birthday, and offered to take him along. Speaking to the Mercury hours after the incident, Mr Hughes was full of praise for his "cool, calm and collected" tandem instructor. Mr Hughes said the instructor's professionalism allowed him to remain calm throughout the fall. "I had a moment of feeling like OK, something's gone wrong, but the instructor was absolutely amazing," Mr Hughes said. He said the primary chute was cut loose after several of its lines "snapped". The secondary chute was deployed at about 1000 metres. Amazed onlookers and fellow skydivers rushed to meet them when they landed in Thomas Dalton Park in Fairy Meadow. "Everyone was freaking out, running over, saying wow," Mr Hughes said. Ms Renes, who was jumping at the same time as Mr Hughes, had no idea it was her partner whose chute had been jettisoned. "I saw this chute going towards power lines and another one going fast towards the ground," she said. "When we finally landed I looked over and thought oh shit, it was Rick." On the ground, Mr Hughes was told the primary parachutes failed to deploy on average once every 2000 jumps. He was also told by another instructor he "should have been scared". The jettisoned parachute caused disruption for commuters after it fell on power lines inside the rail corridor between Towradgi and Fairy Meadow. Trains were shut down because the power lines were used to control signals for the trains. A NSW TransLink spokeswoman said trains were stopped at 1.12pm to allow staff to resolve the issue. Trains resumed operation at 1.35pm, while the parachute was successfully removed at 2.27pm. The experience hadn't turned Mr Hughes off skydiving, and he said he now wanted to go on to become a qualified instructor. Mr Hughes and his partner suffer from post traumatic stress disorder due to previous occupations, and Mr Hughes said they had seen the jump as a "cleansing" way to leave their "rubbish at 15,000 feet". "I thought it was pretty good - jumping out of a plane doesn't cause me to have PTSD," he said. Mr Hughes's only complaint was the company's decision to edit the video so it didn't include the part involving the jettison of the primary chute. Skydive the Beach owner Anthony Boucaut said there was no increased risk to Mr Hughes during the fall, and said he would investigate whether the full unedited video could be provided to Mr Hughes. "Approximately one in 2000 to about 2500 [parachutes] are jettisoned when instructors are not happy with their performance. The secondary parachutes are packed in a different format by a licensed, qualified packer and there's never been a case in Australia of a secondary chute failing in just over a million tandem skydives," Mr Boucaut said. http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/story/1965213/skydive-scare-at-1000m/

  19. While I was a student many years ago I noticed that the student rig due to the adjustable laterals didn't quite fit me as well as I would have liked. In free-fall the leg straps moved much lower than I though, nearly mid thigh. I noticed this from pictures afterwards and I was concerned about breaking a femur upon opening. It wasn't the pack job. I have slim thighs. Although the fit of the rig felt fine standing up, on my belly it was a different story. On occasion back then I had the same type of bruising although not as painful as you describe but it was due to a few inches of travel in the fit of the rig while on my belly during the opening. If the bruising is greater than the width of the leg straps this is due to movement during opening. 5 inches of abrasive bruising could be due to this reason alone and not a bad pack job.
  20. If you are using an adjustable student rig and have slim thighs it is possible that the leg straps are sliding lower on your thighs than you may think while on your belly in free-fall.
  21. Last weekend a jumper 4 rows back of me me had his RSL routed through the main D-ring of his harness. It was a black rig on a black jumpsuit. The guy next to me had eagle eyes in order to spot this. Nobody next to the jumper noticed this. We were 5 minutes away from the opening to door.
  22. Gatorz are comfortable with an open face helmet. I also keep a couple different lens colors of Flexvision in a gear bag. Yellow lenses work so much better than gray lenses if it's not all blue skies.
