  1. Since we have no idea where this plane is or what happened I have a theory http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZ2QFmJ7h0A
  2. yeah we wouldn't want to reveal that the US has capabilities far better than Google maps. Not criticizing you just thinking about it. If anything I think countries in the region DO NOT have the capabilities of Google. I've used google maps to see if a sub division has centralized mail boxes for residents or boxes outside each home. The thinking seems cold warish nowadays.
  3. Really? Gee...where was the aircraft built? Who trained Pilots & the maintenance people? What language is it again that's used on the radios? ~ & a lotta So.Cal. peeps have moved to Texas...taxes are 1/3 of CA. ~ if that doesn't matter to ya...prolly need a better job --- PLUS when you trade in your CA. drivers license, they give ya a free gun! It's not as if I am uninformed. I do understand. While I have put forth more of an idealistic viewpoint you've been more practical. It is honestly not that huge of a difference. I doubt your against technological advancements. This situation highlights certain technological areas which could be vastly improved upon. It has even been speculated that the cabin was unoccupied to deal with an electrical fire which disabled many systems and both pilots were locked out of the cabin. The plane then flew on auto-pilot until it crashed. Highly unlikely IMO but the not knowing close to anything a full 2 weeks after it went missing is extraordinary. IMO which I do not have a problem saying. I do not know... it's not my field. However I see what is done here often on dropzone.com, ask foolish questions of a poster, vet the person making the comments, make them into a fool. That grates against me. http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/21/world/asia/airplane-safety-changes/ "Opponents, however, are not ready to welcome Big Brother in the sky. Many pilots -- and unions that represents them -- worry about an invasion of privacy." In this day and age I believe a 300 million dollar investment for a single aircraft which transports the lives of 250+ people the personal privacy of the pilots while ON THE JOB should matter little if at all.
  4. If you can change history answer your own question to your own satisfaction I see it as a question unable to be answered.
  5. It's my understanding that in that incident the ACARS sp? system released an avalanche of data to the satellites. Air France knew where that plane was very quickly. How to recover it was the major problem. The voice recording from that black box will keep you awake at night. Here it is disabled completely. And can be from the cockpit. There is a crazy not so crazy series of news stories about how the ACARS system can actually be hijacked electronically using a honeywell keypad and various other components readily available as used parts. The Russians may have developed this capacity. I'm not well enough informed to fully understand that or how commands can be entered or uploaded into the flight control computer. I would simply like to know where this plane is and what happened to it. At this point the only real answer is "who knows what happened"
  6. Exactly! Take the high moral ground. Mandate it through international regulation and make all these foreign national airlines such as Malaysia or China, etc carry the expense. I mentioned it yesterday, found a news article by Inmarsat today. Seems people smarter than I have been considering this moving forward... I agree with it. I'm surprised to see Americans defending through bemoaning the expenses involved in relation to the economies of other countries and defending them. That is what I was referring to when I said "entrenchment" I mean really, it's the other side of the planet, no real US involvement in flight operations with a national airline and we have the informed explaining away Malaysia's inadequacies from an American point of view. but maybe that guy is Canadian. not to insult any Canadians btw by saying they're Texans. China is building brand new cities from nothing and building magnetic bullet trains investing billions of dollars and well... America is just fucked because we've become so used to not being able to afford anything it has become a knee-jerk reaction from the old guards of an industry. It's like saying Dubai can't build the best skydiving facility in the world because it's just to expensive here. How much $$$ is being spent by the 26 or 29 other countries now involved in this mystery search. Once seat cushions are found floating somewhere there are still going to remain many many many unanswered questions. I am uncertain if the technology was even available in the past perhaps the plane that struck the pentagon, the field in PA, the world trade center. But again was it available.... I don't think it was. So it's moot.
  7. Perfect example. You can bet that nowadays each and every one of those tens of millions of trucks if they are fleet owned are connected by GPS and an integrated data network to company HQ monitoring their investment. No lives involved only cargo, same applies to commercial shipping. Modern aircraft? .... oh there is a switch in the cabin which can be turned on and off. ok perfect!
  8. lol Oh poo and boo hoo, shall I take my bat and ball and go home. *pout* A difference of opinion is just that. You see it your way and I'll see it mine. Thanks for the laugh. However the analogy you've put forth in comparison doesn't seem practical. Really AAD on mains? Whoulda thunk it?
  9. I obviously am and wanted to point to the incredible high price of the aircraft, but also more importantly in my view are the hundreds of lives involved.... to not know where a modern Boeing passenger jet is and what happened to it full of passengers and crew. - And again, considering the overwhelming number of times that happens, I certainly can see your point. Listen - It's always easy to armchair quarterback dozens of things that 'might' have made this a non-event. As was done ad nauseum following 9-11. Since there is as of yet, no definitive cause - might be a bit early to be offering up solutions. I have some experience in both the aerospace industry in regard to manufacturing hardware for airliners... ( I worked extensively not only on the triple 7 engine components - but also on the fabrication of the machines & tooling required to make those huge things - also on the testing to failure of some initial working prototypes) ...as well as a pretty good idea on how things run at a major airline being married to a senior capt flying widebodies internationally for the last 25 years. Sure, an additional 40 - 50k to design in, wire up, test & certify for compatibility 'another' device offering quadruple redundancy to what's already there, may seem like a no-brainer....2U
  10. When you have a loved one in a situation like this, most likely and definitely are about a universe apart. To add insult to injury. http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/03/21/malaysia-airlines-hotels-idUKL3N0MI22W20140321 "Chinese relatives of the passengers on the missing Malaysian jet have changed hotels to make way for crews arriving for the Malaysian grand prix after two weeks of searches that have yielded little more than fresh questions." "Several foreign officials, investigators and journalists are also being forced by the event to move out of a hotel near the Kuala Lumpur international airport, which had become the ad hoc headquarters for coordinating search operations. "We will be moving out of here because the F1 race is going to go on," Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said.

  12. Simmer down cupcake. I was referring to a separate system of tracking a $275 million dollar aircraft not connected to flight avionics or controls.
  13. after consulting my crystal ball the response I received was cross that bridge when you come to it.
  14. I find it remarkably foolish that a flight crew can simply turn off location data for a $275+ million dollar aircraft or it can be rendered inoperable by a possible electrical fire. Whatever the case may be I would think a tamper-proof system with redundant systems would report it's GPS location worldwide. Most rental cars are equipped with location GPS if needed in the event of recovery.
  15. Maldives residents report 'low-flying jumbo' http://www.smh.com.au/world/missing-malaysia-airlines-plane-possible-mh370-sighting-as-maldives-residents-report-lowflying-jumbo-20140319-hvkb0.html
  16. A number of reasons. dropzone.com isn't the clearing house of information it once was? Once they do get knocked off they are often not found. I do every jump I make no different than you. I'm not going to debate it with you. I expressed my opinion and you're not going to change it. I bet a person could walk around a DZ and knock them off peoples helmets quite easily if they wanted to. I haven't heard or seen that either. I'll not borrow a riggers scale but suggest you do that yourself and inform us of the results since you're the authority on the matter. And since it is after all your pet peeve I think you'd enjoy it.
  17. I don't like this video, it seems suspect to me. A GoPro is going to break at the mount. I know a lot of low time belly fliers who've already had to replace GoPro's knocked off their heads in freefall due to simply bumping each other.
  18. I was looking at the images he posted and the file data say camera: iPhone4 Was it a GoPro camera for certain?
  19. I like the PD Sabre2 or the Icarus Safire2 both are also very easy to sell is you elect to get something smaller in time
  20. Actually based on most waivers I've read a jumper signs a waiver and accepts the negligence of others, and or faulty equipment as an acceptable risk. I haven't been in the rental market for rigs in a long time. I've seen rigs I simply would not jump and others do. From what I understand IMO he was jumping a shit rig I would never jump but he signed his waiver and accepted the risk.
