Since you mentioned street, I assume you are on a cable modem? They are supposed to cap them long before they get to your street. Try the first link I gave, and compare the two. Yep, that's the one I tried above in Texas. Just tried again and got 1.3 Mbps. It's not like I'm gonna call my cable company and complain! True, somewhat. Cable modems are more dependant on user per node than distance. Distance does play a factor though. I'm on a small node, which helps. I'm actually disputing the initial test. That's why I posted it, for others to get false readings too(hopefully). The other tests, though, are giving me varying readings, which is what i expected. Not complaining, not at all. I used the test you supplied, and the links on the bottom of tha page for more, and got varying results, from 385k in the bahamas to 1.2M in Texas to 1.8M in Ohio, and the shocker, lol, 225k to California. I'll just keep my mouth shut for now. When it really slows down, I'll call the cable company and complain.... It's your life, live it! Now I pay for a basic level (300k) cable modem, so i wasn't expecting blazing speed, but the first time I tried this, I got 26.94 Mbps (3.367 MBps). I thought "Holy SHIT!" Then Irealized it must have been aserious fluke in the system. There is no way the cable company would let me sustain these speeds for the price I pay, so I tried it a few more times. Here's what I got: #2: 86.806 Mbps (10.851 MBps) #3: 106.534 Mbps (13.317 MBps) #4: 106.534 Mbps (13.317 MBps) OK, I give up. Someone else want to try this, and let me know if they get absurdly high numbers? I know my connection always seemed fast....File transfers are snappy....Morpheus is usually limited by the "other" users bandwidth, but this is just not possible, is it? p.s. Even though it says the files are not cached on your system, I flushed it before the last test, and it still pegged the meter.....3 megs in lesst than 30 seconds. It's your life, live it! I posted this question on the "new" message board at http://www.freefall.com. No answers yet, but hey, I just posted it. I remember reading on the "old" board that the VHS copy was to be ready around Thanksgiving, and the DVD by Christmas. I pre-ordered the "Limited Edition" DVD (Was that a joke?) before the Convention, and I'm really hoping to have it before Christmas. I'm hoping to be able to play it at the family get together. My family still thinks I'm nuts, but they have come to respect this sport of mine. They understand everytime I get on a plane, I may not be coming back to them. I'm really hoping to finally show them the reasons I do this, and the DVD will do just that. p.s. Kris was just being a smart ss. Fiber optic is still way to cost prohibitive. Infa Red is to limited by range and line of sight. Wireless is currently to limited by speed to be cost effective. Coax went out with the dinosaurs. Face it CAT5 is a standard that's gonna be here for awhile. It's cheap, easy to set up, and capable of sustaining speeds of 100Mbps. A simple net card runs under $10. A cable/DSL router with 4 port hub, less that $100, and 30 or 40 bucks worth of cable and you have a decent speed network. It's your life, live it!
