  1. What is "PNW"? What is "Dub-step"? What is "Whompity-Whomp-Whomp"?
  2. I would think that being buried underground for 67 years, the crates have rotted away, and whatever remains is going to be one big rusty lump. That environment isn't exactly known for being low humidity. Planes have been found preserved in artic ice, understandably. Planes are preserved in desert boneyards where there is no humidity, understandably. But in Burma where rain falls at 40 to 90 inches per year? I'd be surprised if there's much that can be salvaged.
  3. I guess Nazi women and children don't count. But Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet sure do!
  4. http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/04/13/463317/tennessee-anti-hand-holding/ We have more in common with the Taliban than we like to give ourselves credit for. Let's see if I can get Pavlov's dogs back in their pens before they start salivating at the way the media has rung their bell and manipulated them. Facts: The bill summary: http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/billinfo/BillSummaryArchive.aspx?BillNumber=SB3310&ga=107 Sex education! Oh the horror! The definition of "gateway sexual activity": “Gateway sexual activity” means sexual contact encouraging an individual to engage in a non-abstinent behavior. A person promotes a gateway sexual activity by encouraging, advocating, urging or condoning gateway sexual activities;Source: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/107/Bill/SB3310.pdf, page 2, item (7). The word "hand" doesn't even exist anywhere in the Bill. There is no list of what activities are defined as being "gateway". Other news reports talk about what "could" be included in that definition, which makes it mere conjecture, not fact. If there was such a list, I imagine blow jobs would probably be on the list, but hand-holding? Not likely. This is apparently someone's personal interpretation, not based upon the actual facts, dutifully reported by the liberal media to bash conservatives, and you lapped it up like one of Pavlov's dogs. Woof! Quit believing everything you read in blogs. Quit letting the media play your emotions and make you believe things that aren't true. Be skeptical. Research facts. Think.
  5. I don't understand all the Titanic-worship that goes on these days... There have been lots of shipwrecks that have killed lots of people. Why is the Titanic singled out for so much attention? What about the Dona Paz (4,000 dead), the Halifax (2,000 dead), Le Joola (1,800 dead), Sultana (1,800 dead), RMS Empress (1,000 dead), MS Estonia (800 dead), or the Lusitania (1,200 dead). I don't get it. Is the Titanic more important than all the others only because a couple of Hollywood movies have been made about it?
  6. What are the consequences of clicking "like"? Will that generate a lot of unwanted spam to my Facebook page?
  7. The word you want is "manifester", not "manifesto". A manifester is one who manifests, which is what they do at the drop zone, assigning jumpers to aircraft. A manifesto is a written statement announcing someone's ideas and intentions, like "The Communist Manifesto". Manifesters are not communists, although sometimes it seems that way.
  8. Not necessarily. The wind can re-cock the pilot chute by itself and give a normal deployment with just a few second delay. Or even collapsed, there might be enough drag to extract the bag and deploy the chute. Throw-out altitude determines how much time you have to wait to see if that will happen, starting with "none". For those who don't get the magazine, I've attached the photo so you can see what we're talking about. For the "fish eye lens" theory, look at the ground at the bottom and note the curvature at the horizon. That same curvature would then also occur at the top where the pilot chute is, causing it to look distorted.
  9. Might be a fish-eye lens that is distorting the image of the pilot chute at the edge of the lens and making it look a bit floppy...
  10. Right. Glad someone "gets it". The detractors here apparently think that one who proposes a new rule shouldn't bother to set the example themselves by living their own life under that guideline, and should instead continue to do as everyone else while advocating something different. It would be like instructors telling their students that hook turns are bad and should be banned. But instead of setting a good example by doing a normal landing pattern, they continue to land with hook turns themselves. And when questioned about it, they would simply say; "Well, no one has passed a rule against it yet, so I'm going to keep doing it." Yeah, that's really leading from the front.
  11. it's not as bad as his wife driving 2 Caddies. I'm just trying to figure out how much neat stuff one is allowed to work for and own, before it reaches a level where it's considered evil. Apparently antique cars and airplanes are okay, but race horses are over the top. So the dividing line between good and evil personal property ownership is somewhere between those things.
  12. News:Hypocrite Obama takes almost $400K in tax deductions Remember this from Obama’s State of the Union address last week: “If you make more than one million dollars a year, you should not pay less than thirty percent in taxes… In fact, if you’re earning a million dollars a year, you shouldn’t get special tax subsidies or deductions.”Below for your viewing pleasure is a picture of Barack & Michelle Obama’s 2010 tax return. On page 2 one will see the Obamas in spite of Obama’s quote above, made $1,795,614 and took $373,289 worth of deductions: The “everyone but me” rule applies here. Obama paid approximately $454,000 in taxes which amounts to 25% of his income, not the 30% he lectures should be paid by “millionaires,” and he is one. Anyone who wishes to peruse the entire 59-page return, it can be found here. Full story and tax return: KTRH Hmm, I wonder what happened to: "At some point you have made enough money"?
  13. Is that worse than a parachute rig, an antique car and an airplane?
  14. Just ask your question and get on with it.
  15. Read all the fine print and find out what the exclusions are.
  16. He didn't state where he was from, therefore the answer Sparky gave was a prudent one since most participants here seem to be American. If the original poster had wanted to limit responses to only things which apply in France, then he should have said so. So the error lies there, not with Sparky. Pardon Sparky for trying to be helpful. The poster has FRANCE stated right below his name, no need to even click on their profile. Pardon me for paying attention to the very obvious. Are you going to send me another "Fuck you" PM now ? And you have a blank where the license number goes - should we all assume then that you don't have a license? Let's face it, you were too quick to be nasty with your reply. Sparky didn't deserve that. And with your last sentence, you demonstrate once again that you're too quick to be nasty, thereby confirming my original comment, and also that you deserved what you got by PM.
  17. Oh, but when something is a mandate, that means that there is some kind of punishment to be meted out for those who ignore the mandate. And everything the government mandates is backed up by legions of lawyers and men with guns. So that means we can put those rascally refuseniks in jail for not buying the insurance the government says they must have (illegal aliens will have to be excused, of course). And that will make everyone in favor of Obamacare feel so good about themselves! That'll teach those racist independent-minded citizens! Why, we can even have special gulags established throughout the country just to house all the imprisoned no-health care bums. Glory be to Obamacare! All we need is a catchy derogatory name to tag these people with to start the ball rolling.
  18. Good observation. As swoop ponds proliferated, pea gravel pits vanished. Now that swoop ponds are being filled-in, bring back the pea gravel!
  19. Rob Steffens passed-away April 11, 2012 at 6:20 AM, from liver cancer. Rob Steffens used to jump at the Aggies Over Texas (AOT) drop zone in Bryan, Texas, and considered that his home DZ. Rob made his first jump there at Coulter Field, with jumpmasters John and Anne Yonke. He also jumped at the old Skydive Houston location in Waller, Texas. Much of this information comes from Kay Choate, a good friend of Rob's, along with her husband John Choate. Rob worked a simple job driving a tractor cutting grass for the city of Huntsville, and retired from that job. But he was far from a simple man. He lived a frugal life and amassed a comfortable nest egg on his paychecks. Several years ago the Choates directed him to an investment advisor to better care for his savings, to do something with it other than just buy certificates of deposit for minimal interest. He paid cash for his house. One of the reasons he loved his job is because he loved snakes, and driving a tractor he would stir up a lot of them in the tall grass, and he would stop and play with them. He was once bitten by a copperhead and I don’t think he even went to the ER. He also loved cats. One of his cats brought a coral snake to the house and the snake nicked him on the finger when he was trying to take it away from the cat. He did go to the ER with that but they did not even admit him over night - it made him sick but that was about it. He loved to go to yard sales and estate sales and found all kinds of interesting things like cannon balls, and he collected antique shaving straight razors. He always hoped to find some old forgotten treasure that would make him a millionare. Rob once gave me a small "signal" device that he found at a yard sale, because he knew I liked guns. This gizmo is a small package about two inches square that clips to a railroad track, and when a train runs over it it gives off a loud bang. This signal would warn repairmen down the line that a train was approaching, so they could clear the tracks for the oncoming train. I've still got that gizmo. Rob spent many, many hours with John Choate when he was sick in the later stages of his own cancer, giving John's wife, Kay a break and time to go to work. Rob was with John one day when John stopped breathing. Rob did CPR and kept John alive until the ambulance arrived to take John to the hospital. This gave John several more months of life to live, before he eventually succumbed. Rob did not drink alcohol, but did drink non-alcoholic beer. And he loved super strong double espresso type coffee. He never really learned to pack his parachute or was never good at it and would much prefer to pay a pretty girl to pack it for him. Rob was always thinking in unique ways. He told Kay once that he thought it would be cool to get a top hat, long tail tuxedo, cane, etc. and attend the opera. She seems to remember that the 2nd part of the story would be to act all uppity, and then pull some kind of stunt in the middle of a group of fancy people. Rob always had odd ideas for unusual, yet feasible skydives. He wanted to roll off the back of a tailgate aircraft in a wheelchair. Another crazy idea I remember was to do a jump in the eye of a hurricane. The plan would be to ride out the first wall of storm in the hanger, and while the calm eye passed overhead, to wheel out the plane, board it, take off and do a quick hop 'n pop. The jumpers and plane would then land quickly, hurry back to the hanger, all in time to ride out the trailing wall of storm which was to follow. Crazy, but feasible! I think you could find skydivers to do it, but I don't know about a willing pilot. And his unusual thinking even extended to his terminal illness. He didn't want to be buried in the ground or cremated like most people. He is donating his body to science. And he's not even doing that in the usual manner, for dissection by medical students. Rob wants his body to rot away on a "body farm" to benefit forensic science. He described his pending death not as something sad, but as just another of life's adventures, and something to be happy about. You can see him talking about that in this TV interview: http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news%2Flocal&id=8571213 While Rob's body will soon be decomposing in the woods, his spirit will live on in all of us who knew him. Thanks for being unique, Rob. Photos: 1) Rob in skydiving gear. 2) Rob from a couple of months ago. 3) Rob (left) with friend John Choate (right) in 2002.
  20. The biggest problem is that it doesn't tell you where the heck to find the party if the weather is bad. Doh!

  22. But... but... California has laws against assault weapons and drum magazines! In fact, the anti-gun Brady Bunch gives California their highest score for best gun laws amongst all 50 states. How could this be? If even the best gun laws that can be devised by the minds of gun-o-phobes can't stop criminals, then what hope is there for stopping them?
