  1. Nice catch! Where is that log coming from? It also explains the recent issue showing the second page of completely new thread: it reloads and goes for the next unread message (i.e. page 2)
  2. While the issue is still there somehow, I've just run into its evil twin: In General Discussions I came upon a thread I had never seen before: "Turbulence question", the icon to the left confirmed it: two sheets of amber color, so all the messages should've been unread, but when I pressed the link it led to http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4461911;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread and it showed page 2, full of unread messages, but still, it had to be page 1.
  3. Guys, come on, I'm with you on this, but I thought this should be mentioned separately in an answer to such a question.
  4. I see your point, but still I think that AAD is closer to reserve (reserve activation device?) than "everything else after goggles"
  5. I'm a noob so doesn't matter too much what I think, but these things are mandatory on many DZs as I understand, and you're giving advice to someone who doesn't even have jumps probably. Well, one can tell that a reserve is optional, you only need it in case of (gear) malfunction, right?
  6. So from your account this is not reproduced? Maybe you should try from a test account? Because it happens quite regularly, for example, when I tried to read the new messages in this thread
  7. The thread icon is partly amber as if there are new messages in the thread. When clicked, it shows the first post in the thread and the new messages are not marked with a red "NEW" text even if the thread consists of a single page. However there are actually new messages (one can tell by the date/time of the post). It started recently (less than a week probably, although can't tell for sure). It is reproduced somewhat randomly, around 50/50 chance of correct/incorrect work. Browser is FF 18.0.1 (oh god), TZ is GMT+4 should it matter :) Anyone can confirm this?
  8. Which one? There seems to be a new one weekly! The "youtube saga" one. I hope my friendship will ease out his lot.
  9. There is one more thing to it, sometimes you're trying to go to user's profile but miss the link and press "Friend", from there I didn't find a way to cancel this request. Now I'm a friend of that guy who is being bashed about in the swooping forum :)
  10. Here in Russia we say "one waits for good weather on the airfield".
  11. Well, I'm a bit new to this, so I really can't wrap my head around all this. In driving, you get your license suspended for crossing the double line (maybe even worse, I'm not a driver) and you get arrested for exceeding the speed limit, not simply that license thing, you can go to jail. Why on earth should a DZ tolerate this behaviour? Plain business, this? Well, before I only read about those guys, now I saw this and it's really scary, slicing all that traffic like that What made him think he has right to do this?
  12. Ok, actually I've managed that, but I had to use a computer program to slow my voice down. Here, uploaded on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0
  13. Well, maybe it's not practical, but it's not childish, those kinds of questions reveal some interesting holes in our reasoning sometimes, it doesn't pretend to something more.
  14. Well, I meant the "Trolley problem". One interesting discussion is presented in this lecture by Michael Sandel in Harvard which I enjoyed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBdfcR-8hEY
  15. I am sure you meant to say: "at some point in a Tandem progression, isi'n it great when you get to practice flying on your own,...?" This, sure, this
  16. I was taught to flake, Nick Grillet mentions that this is not the most important phase, but I still do this. I also noticed that our main packer does this more carefully on student canopies (he pushes each section to the side separately instead of one push between the line rows). I also noticed some packer skip this completely on some small canopies (this guy has like 50 000 pack jobs, so I believe he didn't get major complaints on his packing, regarding openings anyway).
  17. This is totally not a childish question, it's rather well-known, but nevertheless quite extensively studied in psychology in general and on law faculties in particular.
  18. I just tried to google that. Does that count?
  19. I had always been able to find myself until these social networks came along, now I couldn't, just random guys with the same name.
  20. Outdated, doesn't solve my WiFi issue.
  21. Haha, you have a remarkable government there (I mean they care about their citizens so much) :) Uninstalling seems too radical, security bugs come and go, the developers work on it and to my knowledge Java is not vulnerable by design and they release updates from time to time. Yes, some sites will not work, however they're pretty rare. Some local programs could stop working too.
  22. There are grotesque news articles telling stories about these locals actually robbing some businessmen of a couple of these zorbs and starting the things themselves. This is what it led to.
  23. 1. I saw skydivers laughing at 'our own's when they do really stupid things. 2. These guys were not doing simply dangerous activities, this was plain stupid, hoping that one guy could always catch that ball. Actually, this zorbing thing, they have their own safety guidelines, including necessity for fences preventing the ball from... well you saw it.
  24. Haha, congrats, my friend! :) Skydiving gets better during and after AFF for sure, don't know about further progress still, but hope so :) I have a question of my own to experienced tandem masters, have any of your students ever hijacked the freefall by controlling it themselves after tunnel time or whatever? :D
