  1. Shy? Really? You mean, you jump video, insist that you possess enough experience to spread your opinion on EPs and you have no work shared on the internet. Now that's just impossible, if you ask me.
  2. Why not share? That way we can know more about you. They have shared some things about themselves, you haven't.
  3. Can you post a link to some of your work as a video guy? Your words imply that you jump video, right?
  4. Are you sure this doesn't impede the reserve deployments in any way?
  5. Noob here. I heard also that hand deployed PCs helped with hesitations tremendously. Or is it just advertisement shit?
  6. I see two problems (differences to your usual accuracy jump): 1. Turbulence 2. The walls that the canopy can contact.
  7. Saw this (the one on the right) on one of the tandem systems here. [inline 800x600_1318423743_voda.jpg]
  8. How? o_O How did you achieve this?
  9. I have no problem implementing a separate application for that in my free time, not a great fan of reimplementing/reinventing though, that's why I asked this question :)
  10. Is there such a thing? Is there even such a thing for other technical sports, I was unable to google it. I mean, some place where you can conveniently store your recurring mistakes and generate some kind of plan to work on them on a particular day? Then evaluate your progress and lower/higher the priority of the mistakes. Even when under the supervision of a coach/instructor, there're still too many mistakes not to forget one during a jump. Yes, we do have logbooks, but some mistakes just creep in jump after jump and sometimes reoccur later when we are focused on other aspects. Some other safety-related "desirable" behavior is difficult to instill because you just used to some routine (I totally forget to glance at my cutaway handle some time after opening, as an example, however, I want that habit). Another aspect is some safety performance corrections you want to make after reviewing an incident report. There are training plan managers for more physical/endurance oriented sports like fitness, running, cycling, etc. But that doesn't cut it. However, if someone knows of a really good example of that kind of software (online preferably), please chime in too.
  11. Don't know about you guys, but for me the wind tunnel IS a real thing too :D
  12. Why not track perpendicular to jumprun just in case something unexpected like this happens? It's quite easy once you make it a habit. Isn't it just about breaking a link in the chain of events? Or were you actually tracking perpendicular and still got close on opening?
  13. What's wrong with these options? http://www.chutingstar.com/skydive/square-one-gopro-top-mount http://www.chutingstar.com/skydive/cookie-g3-gopro-roller-mount Or have I missed the irony? :) Maybe you mean that nothing is snag-*free*? Just lesser evil?
  14. The plastic mount thing breaks first, not the glue.
  15. There was a video of someone pulling another person's reserve handle on exit with his go pro. Could be very very dangerous! Thankfully it happened just after the exit and not in the door.
  16. Somewhere far far away at our DZ near Moscow one has to complete the packing lessons to be licensed. And there are only two riggers (working as packers) who provide training (officially, supported by DZ). I was taught by one of them. I can say that no other skydiving instruction was given to me in more clean, straightforward, complete and easily understandable manner than these packing lessons. And by complete I mean everything I researched about packing later by watching videos, reading suggestions, tips etc was mentioned by him. But still, I'm one of the minority of jumpers who continue to pack for themselves and I often hear scary nonsense about packing and gear from some jumpers (who don't pack for themselves). So here I don't really see a connection with training practices. Spotting is not really taught here, unfortunately.
  17. This is not a workaround, it's a way to enforce self-sufficiency of the resource so you can read forums later and still be able to view all the pictures. And this is a problem with streaming videos: they are hosted elsewhere end get removed all too often.
  18. Some information here: http://parachutistonline.com/safety_training/ask_a_rigger/closing-loop-length
  19. I was going to a high school with a dorm and it had some kind of initiation tradition where we had to come up with a name for newly initiated. We had to give a name to a cute little girl, went to a library and found this unkulunkulu zulu god, which seemed hilarious to us. But everyone else was not so excited for some reason. Then two of us decided to keep it to ourselves, we played a round of rock-paper-scissors and I won the nickname.
  20. Define cold. In -20C at ground level last winter I used thin fleece gloves under warm winter gloves for skydiving made by a local manufacturer (looks and feels pretty much like winter newmann). You want to hold your hands mostly down before exit, shake them off to get blood to the hands. Also get some slack in the gloves around fingers, also helps. One common problem is if you carry the canopy after landing like I do (wrap some lines around a thumb), you have to change that habit: you can use canopy fabric to conserve heat if you have to walk some distance (I had to land in the student area).
  21. I kind of got that, it was my first post's intention to evaluate some kind of statistic. I gave up on that. Again: some people argue that cutting away is worth the time and will not lead to entanglements. Now I'm not looking for statistics, I'm looking only for information that can disprove that.
  22. Thanks! That's what I'm looking for. If someone else knows more, please don't be silent, we need facts.
  23. bump! Any links? Again: not cutting away: plenty of incident reports. Cutting away-> no clear cut incident reports. But many people here see cutting away as a more dangerous decision.
