% of skydivers with titanium in them?

No titanium, just stainless steel....which is probably what most metal implanted is. Titanium is expensive.

er, ok. i just got told i was getting titanium and assumed that was 'normal'.. :P

re the poster mentioning a 500-jump minimum as cut-off: why? i can understand that that's a target group for those who are going to hurt themselves doing high-performance landings etc, but of my circle who have broken something (not all resulting in metal of some sort) a number seem to have been at the "you think you know what you're doing but realise too late you don't" 50-150 jumps stage...

Define skydiver. Minimum number of jmps or time in sport?
I think with a 500 jump minimum the percentage would be 10-20%

A skydiver is anyone who has made one jump or more.

There is no reason to put a 500-jump minimum on it. I would just limit the question to people who have steel/titanium inserts due to skydiving injuries, and not from other types of injuries.

And there is no way that 10 to 20% of jumpers with over 500 jumps have steel in them. You must be jumping with a bunch of reckless crazy people... ;)

You should make this a poll.

Yes, i have some metal in me. And fwiw, i also thought it was titanium.

And how come it doesn't set off metal detectors?

Dood.......when I go to the airport the dectors go off like crazy. I have little cards in my wallet with a tiny xray and an explanation of the fixture for each one.
This is pretty standard with the big stuff. I dont think screws and stuff set off the detectors.

I wouldn't expect a high percentage of people with only 1 jump to have broken bones from skydiving.
