Dude, the fact that you are even typing, looking for options seems to me to be missing the point. Just walk away,Don't talk, read or look at skydiving, just stay away. Stay away till you feel like you are going to burst,,and then see how ya feel, might be 6 months or 3 years, only you will know ! Its that simple,if you don't get that feeling of missing it crazy,,them you've run your course, save the memories and move on with life. Over and out

So what do you want from all these people? Every time some nice person takes 5 minutes out of his day to write you some encouraging suggestions you reply with a snide comment. Seems to me like you don't really want any suggestions but rather just want to bitch and moan (probably nothing to do with skdiving, but some other stress in your life).
Look, you've been jumping since the mid 80s. You know there are wingsuits and that freeflying is possible.
So be honest, is this thread just meant to be an ego boost for you?

If you quit, you can always start again, and skydiving will have changed. If nothing that you haven't tried sounds interesting, then, yup, it's time to move on to something that does sound interesting.

If nothing, anywhere, sounds interesting, then you need to think about what would make something interesting. Look inside.

I quit for 13 years (although it wasn't because I was bored), and found that both I and skydiving had changed when I came back.

No stess in my life. Not looking for an ego boost either. Actually got some good ideas from a bunch of people. Even more people have PM'd me so this is actually working out for me fairly well. Sorry you mistake my attempts at humor as being snide. I guess I have been trying to use this forum as a sounding board for ideas.

You and others are actually helping me find a new direction to go in.

General response to all.

Thanks for all the help and especially the PMs. I have some ideas and suggestions to follow up on now that I hadn't thought of on my own. The biggest hurdle I have to face now is getting over the feeling of "its a weekend therefore I have to be at the DZ".

Again many thanks. I am fairly certain as to which course of action I will follow.

Yet your 1st post was:

What the hell are you carrying on about? You've done 750 jumps in 20 years, won't try anything new and say change is bad. Sounds to me like you've lost your will to live.

Real encouraging..........:S

And your definitely in a good position to assess that........:S

Another encouraging comment........:S

To be honest with you, your in no position to judge Ed based solely on his handful of posts that you apparently cant make sense of.

If you do not approve of Ed's responses, here's an idea, stop reading them and replying to them. Or does trying to piss on someone elses legitamate skydiving issue just because it doesnt make sense to you, does that give you the ego boost you need?

Show the guy a little respect.

Bored after 8 years.

After eight years of intense involvement in the sport, I finally got over this, "It's a weekend, and I have to be at the dz."

These days it is: I spent most of my waking hours in front of the PC or interacting w/ ppl. On the weekends I want to be outdoors, excercising, and just exhausting myself physically. As for example with my Trek 2100 road-rocket.

I am tired of spending a minimum of 4 h in the car each weekend, and then have a plane haul my ass to altitude for another 6 h. I am more physical than that.

Also, I discovered that you can have beer on Saturday w/o jumping out of air planes. Skydiving has been one of the great experiences in my life; I enjoyed taking on responsibilities (as a Rigger and Instructor), but it has run its course. Just like almost any other woman...:)

My point? Skydiving should be a choice, not an obsession or custom.

I am beginning to think that I am going through an early mid-life crisis or something. Not looking for danger so much as something different.

If you've been jumping for 20plus years there is NOTHING early about your mid life crisis:D:D:D:D

I rode motor bikes and SCUBA dived for 20 years before skydiving, since I started skydiving I havn't touched my scuba gear (I also havn't sold any of it).
It's probably time to try a bunch of things that you never considered before, see if any of them take your fancy:)Good lucvk with it:)
You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)

Bored yes. Complacent no. I am one anal bastard and considered by my peers to be safety conscious. This is a "different" kind of bored. Almost defies description even to myself.

its easy to describe, its called resistance, its the same idea as a crack addict, at the begining 1 line does the trick, and then it take more and more and more, till he reaches the point that he cant do any more without o/ding, and he does that much without getting the same high he used to, so he tries something different, maybe even a little more dangerous, or maybe less dangerous, just different. Its hard to believe that jumping out of a plane would become boring in any way, just as its tough to believe that someone wouldnt get high of of 5 lines.

*dont take this as a post telling you to do drugs or n e thing drug doing related, its just a metaphore*

Here's my Idea for you, go find you the oldest scary ass looking airworthy rig with all the death metal
cutway shit on it, best if it's a wart and not a piggy back, stap that shit on and go on up to 13k and jump that shit, I bet you will feel just like you did on your first jump.
Worked for me when I was not having fun any more (burn out)
and I rediscovered the thrill of jumping rounds again.
I do it a few times a year just cuz I can and it put's the fear in me every time( the good kind that makes you feel alive) but it is a blast, and a lot of other guy's and gal's have been getting their's out to play with too, we have done some nice 6, 8 & 10 ways, riding the plane up you would think it is full of first jump students.
So if you don't find it fun and "normal sport" jumps fun.
Well might want/need to just take a rest from skydiving, hell I had a few years where I maybe did 25 jumps if that, I like to do other things in life too. Try it you might like it;)

Stratostar - I will wait to hear what DJL says, but I didn't read his posting to be an attack on you, but rather a response to the bored guy. You are way too sensitive/harsh/easy to be offended. I'll save you the trouble and tell myself to fuck off for you. Stay mellow.

Oh my God... the answer is SOOO simple.. just start concentrating on doing naked jumps with 18 year old girls just getting into the sport, it's guaranteed to get that original fire back into you... trust me on this.. be sure to post videos for the rest of us cialis aged skydivers :-)

That would be a former bored guy, who re-discovered that you have to stop (work) to have some fun once and awhile.
While you maybe correct and I have taken the post out of the context it was ment could very well be the case.

However what part of "we are having a blast" & "rediscovering the thrill of jumping rounds again" put the fun back in the sport for me, did he not seem to understand, the man who started this thread asked "has anyone else gone thur these feelings"
My reply was big hell yes I have gone thru the very same thing almost to the point of quitting, then some crazy old guys talked me in to digging out my PC and joining them for a retro jump, and it put the fun back in the sport for me.

So what part of all that is it that DJL don't seem to get?

Yes I took it as telling me to quit jumping and to quit telling others to try a round canopy to experience some real level fear again that we who have been jumping 20 plus years tend to not have anymore.

If I'm wrong and misunderstood, then I will admit I was wrong!
Say I'm sorry and then go fuck off myself....:P

Holy shit, I love the internet.

Edit: I actually didn't even read your post so I didn't get any of what you have to say. Sorry that it was construed that way. I was saying that because there are many fun ways to spend your life. I got into kayaking last year. I bought a kite two weeks ago so I could learn how to kite surf. I quit playing lacrosse after college because I pretty much had all the fun I could with it. I continue to sail and am getting into racing. I invite this guy to try some other things in life besides skydiving. Sometime you just peak and there's not much else to do.

Man, I can't wait to meet you so I can keep saying, "...you got some kind of a problem with me." Don't worry about it, I see where my post tied into yours.

You are correct, we have talked via pm's.
I was way out of line and in the wrong and acted like a dickhead for no reason, with that said DJL and I are all good and shook hands if you will.

You are way too sensitive/harsh/easy to be offended. (quote)

Again you are correct in terms of this posting.
Hope this post clears the air.

I know the feeling.

13 years in the sport and busted thru my own stuuupid actions six months ago and just about to return to less days than I had when I left.

Have a partner and child to think about and skydiving just doesnt seem to cut it as far as having to pay for everything.

How many full timers out there own their (not THERE) own homes!???

PS- Have had the jump plane over my place every one of the days I was not at the dz, unfortunately I AM that close!!!

BSBD!! -Mark.

For me to be comfortable with a wingsuit I would have to significantly upsize my current canopy size. I presently load my canopy at 1.7:1 and can't fit a larger one inside. Although I might be able to wrap it in bungies and strap it to the outside.

If you're on a nine cell at 1.7:1, you might be able to upsize with a seven cell. I jump my S-3 wingsuit with a Diablo loaded at 1.6something and it's opened fine so far (though not always on heading). While not as racy & fun as a lot of canopies on the market today, the Diablo is still substantially more fun than many others, so you won't have to lose *all* the fun of the canopy ride. Plus, I imagine you can pick up a used one fairly cheap. ;)
