Busing migrants to Chicago

There are indeed humane ways of dealing with this, the US is doing very little of that.

Well, to be fair, economic and weather-related and war-related immigration is getting to be a worldwide problem, and very few are dealing with it well, because, well, cultural homogeneity. Canada is an example of much better implementation, but it does have the advantage of not sharing a border with a country that either has those issues, or is just passing them through to fuck over other countries (as Russia is doing to Finland).

I don't see the refugee situation getting any better, and the farther we are from WW2 (and even then no one reall wanted all those refugees -- ergo Israel).

I don't particular see it getting better either. And I see opposition growing and with it the demonization of immigrants and with it a rising comfort in treating them like dogs.

I understand there is no easy answer. But choosing to treat people humanely is a minimum we should strive for.

Allow people who apply for asylum to legally work while their cases are being decided.

^This!

It is stupid as hell that they cannot work, and therefore must depend on charity and/or someone to support them while waiting in a country with labor shortages. Denver is even considering employing them due to a loophole in the law.

"That law is quite clear that it applies to private employers as well as federal government agencies. But that law says absolutely nothing about applying to state or local governments,”

Could Denver hire migrants to work for the city?

All we have to do is follow the laws that are already on the books.

That's what got us into this mess to begin with.

It is perfectly legal to show up in the US and request asylum.  You CANNOT do this outside the US.  You legally MUST do it within the US.

Such people get a court date.  Due to republican obstructionism, that court date could be five years in the future.  You then get released into the US.

You are now a legal refugee seeker - but you cannot legally work.  At that point you have several choices:

1) Die
2) Go on assistance programs
3) Work illegally

Most people choose 3).  Which is honestly what I would do if I was an asylum seeker.

THAT is where most illegal aliens come from.  And we are going to have that problem until republicans get the hell out of the way.

Old friend of mine (and right winger) on Facebook was complaining that the bipartisan bill did NOTHING!  And if you sheep would only READ it you'd realize that!  No one READS the bills any more!

So I replied listing how much funding was going to each border-safety entity per the bill.

His reply: "Well, you have to read between the lines."

Trumpty Dumpty and the MAGA Moron Machine would rather see the country burn to the ground than give Biden ANY successes.

They've taken 'cutting off one's nose to spite their face' to a whole new level.

More like 'cutting one's own head off.'

chapter line and verse, which laws on the books are not being followed, with specific examples and then some statistical analysis to demonstrate that 'whatever conclusion' is a widespread or systemic causation of the problems at the border - which you have yet to describe (specifically)

Easy, just deport those who have been deemed “processed for removal” for starters.  Or how about reimplementing the Obama policy of prioritizing recent illegal migrants for deportation? This is a disaster of Biden’s own creation and the American people, overwhelmingly, hold him accountable. If Trump get elected the blame will fall squarely on the shoulders of Biden and his inability to stand up to the far left wackos in his party.

The amount of discretion any administration has with regard to enforcing immigration laws, makes citing a particular law unhelpful. It is the discretion the Biden administration exercised within the boundaries of the law which resulted in this crisis. Obama nor Trump had this problem to this degree and both administrations followed the law as well. Biden’s border fiasco is uniquely his.

and you make the insinuation (at least) that the second a gavel hits the judges desk, about a deportation, that this person is escorted to the airport and put on a flight.  Nothing takes any time right?  It should be instantaneous right?

Which law was broken if that takes say, 60-90 days to complete?  I asked you to spell out the laws that YOU claimed were not being followed.

If your insinuation is correct and Biden’s policies are not to blame for the border crisis, then what is?  What massive geopolitical earthquake has resulted in the record breaking number of illegal migrants being released into the country?

so you cannot point to a law that has been broken or not followed?  Your original claim, and once again you digress to unrelated tangents to try and move away from your inability to accurately describe any problem.

How the GOP bullshit machine works. An example from the Lakewood CO (a Denver suburb):

Maybe it's time for democrats to "drop to their level" so to speak.

"Imprisoning girls just because they are tomboys?  THAT'S NOT RIGHT!"
"Conservatives plan to ban Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer because it is WOKE!  Don't let conservatives cancel Rudolph!"

I confess I don't understand why the Dems seem so passive in the face of the Great GOP Lie Machine.

That's easy. Angry frightened people get passionate. The left (actually the center in the USA) is not yet frightened. But the successful attack on reproductive rights is changing that somewhat. What are you doing about the great lie machine?
