Justice Breyer to retire

Washington Post. 'nuff said.

Really?

Are you going down the "Fake News" garbage disposal?

I still remember the 'revolving door' of the Trump administration.
WaPo & NYT would report that 'sources said' someone was on the way out.
Trump's spokescreatures would say 'That's a LIE!!!!! and vehemently deny it.
And a week later, that person would be gone.

The poll didn't come from the WaPo. The story did.

It was the top result on a google search.
All the other results had similar numbers.

While the WP has a consistent left wing orientation to its editorials. Its accuracy is well respected.

Morning, Phil

For me that would be like saying FOX polls are accurate and well-respected - and even I don't believe that.

Good morning. There is a difference between journalism with a political orientation and stories that specifically have the design to mislead. The two main journalism media bias charts are in this story.

I have to admit I get my FOX news from Brent's posts because the lies are so upfront. But when reading the WSJ the orientation to a pro-business slant is pretty obvious. Just as the NYT has a pro-left leaning(subscriber). But separating fact from fiction. Doesn't take a whole lot of effort, at least IMO.

That odd, because I get my news from MSNBC* and NPR.  I want my world view challenged not validated.  It is why I post on SC.

*Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell, Joy Reid is a bridge too far.

One more time.

It was not a WaPo poll.

It was a poll conducted elsewhere.

WaPo (and a lot of other outlets) just reported on it.

On a different note, Heather Cox Richardson cited a 'recent poll' (didn't see which one) that said 57% of Rs wouldn't vote for any candidate who admits that Biden won.

Story from Jan 28th for those reading this in the future.
I'm not a big fan of citing 'undisclosed sources', but HCR is pretty solid.

She lists her sources at the bottom of the page on her substack blog. You just need to know which day it was:

Again, thank you for the info my post was lacking.

I read her on FB (yes, I FB quite a bit, just not for 'news' and only for selected political stuff) and the sources aren't there.

For the idea that "Trump's hold over the GOP is waning", and the idea that Rs aren't still claiming the election was 'stolen':

I'd like to address this, Joe. I would have liked to have seen Biden win and come out swinging. When he was shunned at the inauguration, first words out of his mouth should have been, "Yeah, I don't like losers either" He should have shown strength in his victory and been strong & decisive in speaking with "the people" instead of going back to the "older" politics as usual.

Every month, he should have given a strong speech from the oval office.

In my opinion, people would have thought, "Ya know, maybe I got this guy wrong." Instead, people are thinking, they got what was left and just like the sentiments echoed here - he wasn't my choice, but he wasn't Trump either.

Chocolate chip, please. And, not that old hard brittle shit you got in the back. :)

I fully agree with this. I commented before that I think Biden decided that he wanted his presidential legacy to be about pro-Biden and not anti-Trump. I think that has been a fundamental mistake which will have future consequences.

Agreed

You know how the internet works, I'm sure. Algorithms, spiders, 12 year olds, all of it just a big pot of spaghetti sauce. Except that unlike spaghetti sauce it's possible to find more of the ingredients than just the bay leaf. In your case, as you are no doubt expertly aware, that means your divisive, Biden condemning, non-stop the Democrats suck posts contribute to a narrative somewhere else by someone else and so on and on even though you are just here on Dropzone.com. How cool is that, right?

Ketanji Brown Jackson, I predict, will be his nominee.  She had bipartisan support during her last confirmation and it won’t change the makeup of the court so it will be an easy win for the beleaguered Biden administration.

Thomas should retire next. The US is sinking more and more every day.....

I suspect that if Thomas was to pass away the Heritage Foundation would immediately hire a taxidermist to turn him into something animatronic, like some Disney theme park character, so he continue to sit on the Supreme Court forever.  He never asks questions during oral arguments, and his clerks could write his neolithic opinions in perpetuity, so no one would ever know.  Then Biden would never get a chance to appoint some raving socialist in his place!

Bipartisan support that included the now distraught she was selected Lindsey Graham. Also, voting for her were wind talkers Collins and Murkowski. That's it. Great call, you should go to Vegas.

I suspect she will get more support and less dirty tricks than Kavanaugh did from the Democrats

I suspect you are right that the Democrats will treat her well.  I'll be fascinated to hear Graham explain that if he knew 256 days ago what he knew now..... Or Collins explain that she's uncomfortable that Brown will support Roe... Or for Murkowski point out that she's going to reserve judgement until she knows if her vote matters.

She's more qualified than Kavanaugh, and she doesn't have a history of abusing people.

No matter, it will be full blown theater as ever. Yes, she's highly qualified and, regardless of the opinions of the Winsor's of the world, diversity is a good thing worth working toward. That said, Kavanaugh was jerked around which was fitting because he truly is a jerk. Let's just hope comrades and Manchin and Sinema don't pee in the pool as usual.

If the Rs played their cards right, she will be confirmed 100 to zero. Keep the powder dry until it matters.

That “abuse” was as manufactured as the Romney tax cheat story.

Probably. Weaponizing new understandings against past actions is a real dicey thing. For example, I know of at least one low puller, and it ain't you DOB, that went on to become a DZO. Should they be removed and skewered?

Maybe, if they deny it.
