wolfriverjoe 1,351 #1 August 19, 2016 Loses his home to the floods in Louisiana. Also claims that the floods are "of near Biblical proportion." Really? So a few thousand square miles of flooding compare to the entire world? I have to wonder if he believes God is punishing him for his hatred. But I highly doubt it. ryoder 1,400 #2 August 19, 2016 The floods were obviously a message to us from God. This may be the first time a closeted gay was outed by God. RonD1120 58 #5 August 20, 2016 wolfriverjoeAlso claims that the floods are "of near Biblical proportion." That is a very common expression among Christians. It might be Southern though, like "bless your heart" or "fixin' to."Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. CygnusX-1 42 #8 August 22, 2016 QuoteAlso claims that the floods are "of near Biblical proportion." This statement is probably truer than we all realize since the "Biblical" flood (or any flood story that the bible copied from) was probably in reality about the size of the flood in Louisiana. This statement is probably truer than we all realize since the "Biblical" flood (or any flood story that the bible copied from) was probably in reality about the size of the flood in Louisiana. Well, that kind of depends. There's a school of thought that the Black Sea was a lot smaller until about 5600BC, then it flooded to it's current size. Estimates are around 60,000 square miles. The entire state of Louisiana is only about 51k sq mi, so even if the whole state had flooded (and it didn't) it would still be smaller. And everybody except what Noah took on the ark died. I don't believe the casualties are above 20 at this point. That's people. More animals have died, but nowhere near "all" of them. So either this guy blew everything out of proportion, or the Bible did. Or both."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Elisha 1 #10 August 22, 2016 Story from this past weekend: Was at my (foster) parents house an hour north for a mini family reunion with dad's side. Uncle Bob (UB from here on), the second oldest brother (and oldest living - almost 71) came with cousin Ben. UB is a somewhat of a close-minded bigot, but I think it is mainly just in expressing opinions and not how he actually treats people (but I can't confirm). UB also likes to bitch and moan about politics, but fortunately there was almost no political discussion! Yay! There was also no mention of the negative stories during olympics discussion! Anyways...the Louisiana Floods came up and UB mentions "punishment from God" due to them living immorally and that he'll target Berkeley next. Fortunately, mom shot him down right away, mentioning how God spared Sodom & Gomorrah due to just one righteous person and if that were the case for Berkeley, why are we still here? UB couldn't reconcile that and shut up. Next subject!
BIGUN 1,072 #11 August 22, 2016 Adjective "of biblical proportions" Of or pertaining to a natural disaster or other cataclysmic event so immense that it brings to mind biblical accounts of horrific catastrophes. The tsunami wrought destruction of biblical proportions. (figuratively) By extension, of or pertaining to a thing or occurrence having vast size, extent, or consequences. With a cast of thousands and a special effects budget in excess of ten million dollars, it portends to be a film of biblical proportions. That's all.. nothing more. Common phrase in the south. gowlerk 1,927 #12 August 22, 2016 QuoteAdjective "of biblical proportions" It's actually quite appropriate to use this term of hyperbole. The bible is largely hyperbole. As is calling something "a punishment from god".Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
