God's Not Dead - The Movie

Recommended Posts

I usually get a sneer and a jeer or two from folks when I wear my old jumpsuit with the "God Is My Jumpmaster" patch. Always wondered why the expression of one's faith either in film or print evokes such emotion both positive and negative.

************Some friends of mine, one a retired pastor, saw "Noah" and criticized it for not being Biblically accurate.

The Bible itself isn't "Biblically accurate." Just read the first two chapters of Genesis.
That topic was adequately discussed in the movie.
I'm thinking the word "adequately" is being applied subjectively here.
And objectively as well.

The only objective fact is the two chapters contradict each other; beyond that is subjective opinion.

agreed, nothing is the bible is biblically accurate, given the number of versions of it that exist and the thousands of written interpretations of what it might all mean.

"biblically accurate" is simply an opinion. and not worth its weight in anything

we (Christians as well) poke fun at Muslims when they rely on Allah for guidance.

"Allah has control!" - yes it is worth poking fun at, as is your patch as well. If your faith is so strong and your beliefs so fervent, then a little poking at you should be water off a duck's back I would expect.

How's the missus doing....healing OK?

I'd be interested to know your take on 'The Life of Brian' Ron.

I have no specific knowledge on this subject.

Some of the most vial biggoted posts against the Christian faith can be seen right here in Speakers Corner
Some right here in this thread, saddly[:/]

Seriously?

OK. It is a 1979 film by Monty Python satirising religion that had very harsh criticism at the time from some religious types but is actually extremely funny.

Monty Python has some funny stuff. I haven't seen much of their work however. In 1979 movies were not in my world.

Yeah? Which posts in this thread are among the most vial[sic] and biggoted[sic] that can be seen?

Are there really any, or are you just throwing out the textbook "all the mean atheists are against us" response?

Sure, if my wife wanted to see it. Based on the clip that jclalor posted it appears to be British satire. As such some is entertaining and some is boring.

As a Christian all things are available for me. However, not all things are beneficial. Therefore, I pray for wisdom and understanding in all things.

Hey at least the Brits gave up on interpretations of Christianity that required them to burn people at the stake for heresy and or blasphemy for not believing the way that others in the clergy did.

The way things are going here in this country I would not be surprised to see a resurgence of those time honored Christian traditions.

Is that the answer you wanted from others when you started this thread?

Paraphrased: "I would but I don't plan to"?

That appears to be an unrelated comment based on your original question. Looks to me like the entrance to a rabbit hole.

How can a thing be both based on but unrelated to another thing?

You issued a challenge at the start of this thread and I'm just wondering what sort of responses you were looking for. If a non-christian said they'd be willing to watch God's Not Dead but they weren't going to go and watch it... then what?

If you hook me up with a blu-ray or DVD copy. Otherwise I refuse to give money to religion or religious causes. Directly or indirectly.
Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off.

Yeah, actually it has WAY better numbers than I would have assumed before looking at the details.

Made for around $2M with a USA total gross of about $60M.

That's a financial success by any measure in town.

Whether or not it's a "good" film is irrelevant at that point. Just like porn; if it makes enough money, it's "good enough."

Contrast and compare to the ridiculously low ROI for the "Atlas Shrugged" series where they are a black hole of losses being financed by crazy millionaires with an agenda who don't care if they lose money.

That said, it's still on my waiting-to-see list as it's not yet available on Netflix.
