I would imagine, much of that ammo will be used to periodically qualify at the range. Chuck

JohnRich 4 #8 March 30, 2012 QuoteI would imagine, much of that ammo will be used to periodically qualify at the range. Right. And DHS includes Border Patrol, which has armed officers. 450 million bullets for 5 years is 90 million per year. How many armed DHS employees are there? masterrig 1 #9 March 30, 2012 I did a search and couldn't come-up with a figure. I think, people have to consider that the amount of ammo is not going to be dumped on Homeland Security in one big lump delivery. This is what, over a 5-yr. period? People get all worked-up over stuff like this. Ho much ammo has Homeland Security ordered in the past? Like I said earlier, they have the weapons, they should have the ammo. People need to realize what the bad guys have for weaponry and the resources they have. Chuck
kawisixer01 0 #10 March 30, 2012 Odd that a company that just got a sizable contract would decide to close operations at a couple of plants. http://gazettextra.com/weblogs/latest-news/2012/mar/29/ammunition-company-closing-wisconsin-plant/
DougH 270 #11 March 30, 2012 What is odd about it, the factory in that story may have zero to do with the production of the bullets that have been ordered."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
SkyDekker 1,141 #12 March 30, 2012 QuoteWhat is odd about it, the factory in that story may have zero to do with the production of the bullets that have been ordered. Considering that plant doesn't manufacture ammunition, the odds on you being correct are very high.

I read that press release with its indefinites and maximums as saying they'll take deliveries based on needs/usage up to as much as 450M. If they use it at a slow clip, it may come under. (or in typical government budgeting frenzy, will shoot the fuck out of anything standing in month 58 and request the remainder.)
masterrig 1 #14 March 30, 2012 I'd have to agree with Doug on this one. The thing is, we don't know just who is/has the contract with the govt. I could be Olin or some other big manufacturer. One thing about it, my wife doesn't have to worry about .40 cal. ammo. The agency she retired from, loaded her up with that ammo. Chuck
