Right now, I get the value of 6, since we're now in the second generation of the one child policy. 4 parents have two children who (effectively - two separate pairings) have one child. So that child supports two parents and 4 grandparents. That said, in some provinces (Shanghai included, I believe), single children who marry other single children are permitted to have two children. In that case, the ratio is 1 in 3. In the longer run, China will face the same issues that we have here, or in Japan/Europe (even worse).
