US to spend $200 mn a day on Obama's Mumbai visit

About 3,000 people including Secret Service agents, US government officials and journalists would accompany the President. Several officials from the White House and US security agencies are already here for the past one week with helicopters, a ship and high-end security instruments.

"Except for personnel providing immediate security to the President, the US officials may not be allowed to carry weapons. The state police is competent to take care of the security measures and they would be piloting the Presidential convoy," the official said on condition of anonymity.

Oopsie. Facts are so inconvenient. So, apparently, is fact-checking.

Haven't seen any facts on Snopes. I see probably.

I bet his diplomacy will not be anywhere NEAR the financial failure of the last guy who failed at everything other than pissing off the whole world.

Is that what you're hanging your position on? OK; works for me.

Oh, what the heck, I'll be more specific. The burden to produce facts regarding an accusation is upon the accuser, not upon those that challenge the accuser to back up what he accuses.

No one is on trial here. I understand it's been a tough week for liberals in general. Your mood is showing.

Since no one can say for certain who is going and what assets are pledged for the trip I guess we'll always have to live with 'probably'. More like maybe.

So you are saying that Reuters is falsifying this information?

You are saying that Reuters is not a viable source anymore?

Well, call me stupid. I clicked the link at 12:50 eastern and I missed any reference in the article to $2 billion.

You must have linked one article and quoted a different one as shown in a different thread on this topic.
My reality and yours are quite different.

Getting the military to follow you around and cover your trip is an expensive proposition. Was that counted in $66k/person calculation?

Hey I am sure there are plenty of the posters here that would be perfectly happy if someone shot down the presidents plane based on their past posting habits.

>What do you get for $2 billion?

Potentially part of a trillion dollar economy.

"India's booming trillion-dollar economy is one of the few a stars in a struggling world economy, offering U.S. investors massive opportunities."

Might be worth a little effort, eh?

Some people in this country who have never travelled have problems with exchange rates.... and since the Rupee is about 45 rupee per American Dollar... ok.. 200 million gets you... well lets see if they can actually do the maths;)

Snopes has now update this from "probably false" to "false"

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/india.asp

Debunked on the today's home page on CNN.com, too.

Quote

It began with an anonymous source quoted in an Indian press report -- that President Obama's overseas trip would cost $200 million a day for a total of $2 billion. But, as CNN's Anderson Cooper reports, the figures are pure myth.
