DC Police Escorted SEIU Protesters to BoA Execs Home

Recommended Posts

http://bigjournalism.com/acary/2010/05/21/d-c-metro-police-escorted-seiu-protesters-to-greg-baers-home/

This "exec" wasn't even a logical target (he's a lawyer, not a banker).

This "exec" wasn't home, but his 14 year old son was.

There were 500 of them.

These protesters were clearly trespassing on private property.

These protesters were violating Montgomery County ordinances by being stationary.

What the F*CK WERE DC POLICE DOING ESCORTING THEM?
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

It says in the article. Didn't you read it?

Of course I read it. I want to know what a mob of 500 needs protection from.

True, true....

I wonder if they were just trying to renegotiate payments on their debt to BoA? :)

By the end of 2008, the SEIU also owed Bank of America nearly $88 million, including its headquarters loan and another $10 million for unspecified purposes. This is the same BofA that the union has spent the past months attacking as the face of Wall Street excess. The SEIU has protested outside of Bank of America offices and demanded the resignation of CEO Ken Lewis. We assume no one forced the SEIU to invest in real estate or borrow from a bank to finance it.

I didn't read 100% of the article, but it seems to me that the PD was definately at fault.

I would say THIS would be a GREAT opportunity for Obama to show that he actually DOES know what "Stupidly" means in regards to law enforcement.

Try bringing these protests to the homes of abortionists and see how much cooperation from the police you'll receive.

Try to do this to Al Sharpton, David Moffett, Herb Allison, Jessie Jackson, or Ted Turner . . . See what happens THEN!

Another one joins the gang.

Whatever John. Did YOU read the article? There is no way to tell by your post. Do you have anything relevant to say or are you just on another one of your insecurity kicks where you have to try to be little some one to make yourself feel better?

I stopped after I skimmed the article and read this:
So, let’s sum this up: A caravan of SEIU buses receive a Metropolitan (D.C.) Police Department escort to a private home in Maryland where the protesters, from all appearances, violate Montgomery County law by engaging in a stationary protest. The Montgomery County police were not informed by their cross-jurisdictional colleagues of the impending, unusually large protest pending in their jurisdiction.

What’s up with that? Had the mob decided to torch the house, the D.C. police would not have been authorized to intervene. Not their jurisdiction. They’re just escorts. Meanwhile, a teenage boy is home alone, frightened by what’s happening outside his front door.

There’s something very wrong with this picture.

ONLY if the protest would have been against a liberal

THEN the shit would be hitting the fan

So Washington Police are escorting a series of buses in a place where they have no authority.

Then what's the fucking use of an escort? Oh. To show lights and sirens because 500 protestors have reason to fear some guy and his family in Maryland.

Oh, they won't intervene for an illegality or assault against the protested - they have no authority. But they are there to intervene in case a protestor is attacked.

Got it.

This is about a display of power. Personally, I'd be interested in suing the living shit out of the SEIU and Washington PD. The PD had ZERO business there, except to show the protested that the police are of no assistance. Don't bother calling - the cops are helping the protestors.

So reading the whole article? For what? To give the, "we had no real authority" bit? That makes it WORSE. No authority but showing it.

First of all, the fact that this was reported by bigjournalism sets off the warning bells. Briebart is an idiot.

Secondly, the article was fine right up until that last two paragraphs. Especially the statement, "Had the mob decided to torch the house, the D.C. police would not have been authorized to intervene. Not their jurisdiction. They’re just escorts." That's total bullshit, and everyone knows it. If you commit a violent act in front of a police officer outside his jurisdiction, especially in a jurisdiction that has reciprocity agreements with that officer's jurisdiction, do you really think he's not going to stop you? Give me a break.

The only thing thaty apparently was out of the oridinary here was that the DC police failed to inform the Mongomery police that the protesters were coming. Not really a big deal. Regardless of who was protesting, and who was being protested.

Is it also common for a protest group to contact police from outside of the jurisdiction of the protest but not the jurisdiction OF the protest?

I think that "reciprocity" seems to run between DC Police and SEIU...

So I ask -

What would you suppose would be the immediate effects and blow back from doing this same exact protest method to the player listed above?

Quoting"What the F*CK WERE DC POLICE DOING ESCORTING THEM?"

According to the DC cops......they are in a major CYA mode.

From D.C. Chief of Police Cathy Lanier:

" In a blog posted on Bigjournalism.com there is an allegation that CDU officers from the DC Metropolitan Police Department escorted protestors into Montgomery County MD – and specifically to the home of a bank executive.

The MPD refutes this claim and our officers merely shadowed protest groups while they were in the District of Columbia to insure that DC laws were obeyed and that noone [sic] would be injured as a result of a traffic collision or other event.

This is standard protocol for protests of this nature as we seek to balance public safety with first amendment protections. There were no arrests or injuries as a result of this protest, and the Metropolitan Police Department notified the Montgomery County Police Department when we became aware that the group was leaving Washington DC.

Our officers staged along Western Avenue (DC/Montgomery County Line), and did not leave the District of Columbia.

MPD had no knowledge of the locations in MD where the protestors were planning to visit – and thus had no role in this alleged escort to homes."

Don't go away mad....just go away!
