Christian Skydivers

Recommended Posts

I'm not an x-tian, but you got my curiosity piqued. What, exactly, are you interested in?
Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off.

I have maintained the Christian Skydivers Association for 22 years. Interested in communicating with other Christian skydivers wishing to obtain their jumpsuit emblem and CSA number.

Good Luck - I'm not religious, but I think people joining due to common interests is a good thing.

what I don't understand is why this is in Speaker's Corner

did some moderator knee jerk and move it here?

I'm not a Christian--but this is SC so I'm allowed to debate civilly :) --so I have a skydiving related question for you.

When I sat in on the FJC at Skydance in Feb for my refresher training, one of the questions on the test was who has ultimate responsibility for my skydive. The answers were:

(a) myself
(b) my instructors
(c) the state of California

The correct answer, of course, is (a).

But my question is--if you were an instructor and you had a student who wrote in a fourth answer saying "(d) Jesus Christ" has ultimate responsibility for their skydive and for ensuring they get a good canopy above their heads--how would you respond?

Because he posted it here. Which is good; this forum is specifically dedicated to politics, guns and religion discussions.

It's not a religious discussion.
It'll become one here.

But it's really just a club announcement. I don't see how it's any different than sending out an invite to the Muff Brothers, or the "Red-Headed Skydivers Collective", or to POPS.

I wonder about anyone that would consider just the existence of such a club to be 'controversial' to be a bigger issue.

anyway, just wondering

:P (now it's a SC topic)

It's not. Experience has shown, however, that posters such as yourself will rapidly turn it into a religious thread - hence the separate forum.

"like me" [:/] Have you ever seen me turn a thread from another forum to SC fodder?

I have seen a few turned by moderators when it's one of their personal buttons. Not you personally, though.

not me - I won't turn it from Bonfire - I'm neither pro nor anti on religion.

Usually it's turned by the anti's with their usual derision and disdain

but once it's turned, it's fair game

I would say they totally missed the point of student training and understanding what being a Christian really means. At that point I would redirect back to emergency procedures.

If he had posted it somewhere else, I'd suggest the right thing to do would be split off the religious discussion and leave his post intact (and in place). It's really a "looking for people to join my skydiving club" kind of post--it does not appear that his intention is to engage in debate on religious issues.

In the case of a pilot chute in tow, there are 2 schools of thought: (a) deploy reserve immediately, or (b) cutaway first, then deploy reserve. What would Jesus do? (I sure hope it's not "turn the other cheek.")

Personally, I think that was a brilliant answer.

I believe the correct aphorism is "God helps those who help themselves."

Yea, well I still wanna know WWJD.

Jesus would probably do nothing just for the killer ground rush, while, in the process, saving humanity from damnation & resurrecting just to do it again! Beat that Chuck Norris!!

Come on! Jesus is Spirit. He doesn't need a parachute.

BTW, the phrase, "God helps those who help themselves," is not found in Scripture. Many believe it to be true. The statement is more correctly a rationalization from the reprobate mind of sinful man. I don't mean to be insulting; it is just a common misunderstanding.:)

No thanks. If being Jewish was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me.

Hi Winsor,
It's been a long time. Hope all is well and that your ankle healed with no problems. ;)

If Jesus did come back a second time, don't you think the last thing the poor guy would want to see is all the crucifix's all over?

The crucifix is specifically a Roman Catholic symbol. I don't think it is applicable to ascribe emotions to Jesus as you would an ordinary person. I believe Jesus is emotional, the scriptures document anger, weeping and love, but His are for mankind and not Himself.

I am not smart enough to dismiss all gods. Out of all the ones there are, I have chosen the One that saved me from my death. That experience occured 16 May 81 when I was stranded in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. The Scriptures tell us He is the Lord of lords. I verified the statement beyond reasonable doubt. It is an individual choice and experience. We have free will. ;)

The soul is comprised of the mind, the emotions and the will. We each make choices our own way. Satan wants your soul. :( Jesus says he doesn't have to have it. :)

See, I wouldn't want you in the audience in a stand-up comedy club. The comic would crack a joke about a talking gorilla. Then you'd rise from your seat and very politely say, "Excuse me, kind sir, but I don't believe simians are physiologically adapted to form the complex dipthongs and fricatives necessary for conventional spoken language." There'd be a brief pause as everyone in the club would become totally silent for a moment, then the bouncers would gently escort you to the door.
