Iranian Military

Correction they want to destroy Israel.
There are many Iranian Jews.
Weapon crazy???????? You are a citizen of a country that spends most of its citizen’s money on getting more weapons. At the same time the US is under no threat of invasion from any of it’s neighbors. We choose to have more weapons over having free health care, and free higher education for our own citizens.:S

Bullshit.

There are plenty of other reasons to have Armed Forces, besides repelling invasions from neighbors. Oh, and we are deterring trouble from neighbors on behalf of others, like in South Korea. So you're wrong on two counts.

If we gave up our Armed Forces, we still wouldn't have free health care or college, because we would be taken over by some other evil country, who sure as hell wouldn't provide it for us. I don't see Russia, China or Iran doing such a great job in those respects.

The Iranian military used to be pretty advanced. Back when the Shah was in charge, they had modern equipment - F-14's, etc. Nwo they've still got those F-14's, but no parts for them, so they've been mothballed for the past 25 years or so.

I also gotta tell you - I have no real issue with the iranian military. They're people just like everyone else, whose job it is to implement the policies of their leaders.

I was planning on traveling to Iran after taking the bar, the 9/11 hit. I have three good friends from Iran who told me it's a great place to hang out. The people of Iran - like the members of the Iranian military - should not be confused with the leaders of Iran. Persians are some of the nicest people I've ever come across, and they've got awesome food.

Anyone here ever noticed all the Nazi like mannerisms they have?...goose stepping, Weapon crazy, wanting to destroy the Jews...ect.

Yeah... That'd be because of Kermit Roosevelt installing a "Puppet Government" in Iran in 1953!

When Iran WAS a secular democracy & voted in a socialist party (who was going to nationalise oil production:o), The bold Kermit was CIA Station Chief for the area & in charge of the coup to replace the Iranian government with The Shah. Kermit's FIRST act was to spring MAJOR Nazi collaborator Fazlollah Zahedi from jail for him to lead the military part of the coup. Zahedi went on to command the Iranian military & secret police under the Shah.

So really... They're just following the military traditions foisted on them by "Kermit's Puppet Government".:)

Naah... I WAS trying to avoid the temptation of getting a cheap laugh at the unfortunately named KERMIT Roosevelt in favour of pointing out that he recruited a known & convicted NAZI as point-man for the coup.

But... I just couldn't resist using the term "Puppet Government"!:$

Sometimes the same with Palestinians. I know several...but they're not Muslim but Christian and have many relatives over in Palestine. Unfortunately, they're caught in the middle of the HAMAS(and other terrorist orgs)/Muslim/Jews.

I also know some very nice Iranians and Persians (Persians are a subset of Iranians. Actually not completely as I think Persians are in Iraq and other countries as well. There are other peoples like arabs in Iran besides Persians. I've heard froma Persian at work that there is a very good Persian restaurant in SF I should try.

Valid correction about Israel, but come on, Judaism is less than 2% of a population of 70M. That's less than 1.4M people. That 2% is shared with Christian, Baha'i and Zoroastrian religions. I'm pretty sure the fellow 98% muslim citizens aren't very tolerant of their existence either.

Almost, but more money is spent on entitlements and human services than defense in the US.

"No threat of invasion" does not equal "no threat." Free health care is worth exactly what you pay for it, and the tax burden increase would not be popular. Same with free higher education, and it is not worth degrading our University system from its current status as worldclass.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright

Make light!

That's funny, I thought we spend 4% GDP on military expenditures. And the US has compulsory conscription; oh wait, that's Iran. I also remember when Bush said he wanted Iran "wiped off the map;" oh wait, that was Iran talking about Israel. If you hold what politicians do in the US against the citizens of the US, then it certainly holds that what Iranian politicians do is held against the Iranian citizens....neither seems particular fair.

The strength of a country relies on it's ability to wage war. We can't stop Iran from having nukes without going to war or a regime change so it likes like another war in on the way.

If we can't defeat them we'll have to call them "Part of The Solution"!

The REAL strength of a country rests on the degree to which it's worthy of imitation by other countries. Remember that "Communism" wasn't defeated by our having more tanks, guns & bombs than them (they had loads more than us), it was by having more cars, TVs & supermarkets! Force has never changed anyone. Envy has worked loads of times.
