You are a citizen of a country that spends most of its citizen’s money on getting more weapons. At the same time the US is under no threat of invasion from any of it’s neighbors. JohnRich 4 #6 April 18, 2006 QuoteYou are a citizen of a country that spends most of its citizen’s money on getting more weapons. Bullshit. QuoteAt the same time the US is under no threat of invasion from any of it’s neighbors. There are plenty of other reasons to have Armed Forces, besides repelling invasions from neighbors. Oh, and we are deterring trouble from neighbors on behalf of others, like in South Korea. So you're wrong on two counts. QuoteWe choose to have more weapons over having free health care, and free higher education for our own citizens. If we gave up our Armed Forces, we still wouldn't have free health care or college, because we would be taken over by some other evil country, who sure as hell wouldn't provide it for us. I don't see Russia, China or Iran doing such a great job in those respects.

lawrocket 3 #9 April 18, 2006 The Iranian military used to be pretty advanced. Back when the Shah was in charge, they had modern equipment - F-14's, etc. Nwo they've still got those F-14's, but no parts for them, so they've been mothballed for the past 25 years or so. I also gotta tell you - I have no real issue with the iranian military. They're people just like everyone else, whose job it is to implement the policies of their leaders. I was planning on traveling to Iran after taking the bar, the 9/11 hit. I have three good friends from Iran who told me it's a great place to hang out. The people of Iran - like the members of the Iranian military - should not be confused with the leaders of Iran. Persians are some of the nicest people I've ever come across, and they've got awesome food. My wife is hotter than your wife.

That'd be because of Kermit Roosevelt installing a "Puppet Government" in Iran in 1953! When Iran WAS a secular democracy & voted in a socialist party (who was going to nationalise oil production), The bold Kermit was CIA Station Chief for the area & in charge of the coup to replace the Iranian government with The Shah. Kermit's FIRST act was to spring MAJOR Nazi collaborator Fazlollah Zahedi from jail for him to lead the military part of the coup. Zahedi went on to command the Iranian military & secret police under the Shah. So really... They're just following the military traditions foisted on them by "Kermit's Puppet Government". Mike.
