Another high-profile shooting in gun-violence-free England

Recommended Posts

Oooh, lookie, it involved a RAP CONCERT. Never saw that coming. :S

Quote

Two stewards have been shot during a concert held by rapper-producer Kanye West at the NEC in the West Midlands.
Police said the shootings took place after people who tried to gain entrance without tickets were escorted from the arena near Birmingham on Tuesday.

One steward was still being treated in hospital, where he is in a serious condition after being shot in the face.

Officers are looking for a black man, aged 18 to 22, 5ft 10in tall, slim, with a moustache and plaited hair.

It's a good thing that Parliament made the gun ban so that those 300 or so guns a year are no longer trickling into the 3,000,000-gun supply that the criminals already have in England. :| Otherwise there might have been two black men, aged 18 to 22, 5ft 10in tall, slim, with a moustache and plaited hair, firing into a crowd.

Makes me fuckin' sick. Gun violence follows rap music around like stink follows shit (hey, good analogy), and this Kanye West asshole is the same guy who had a party a few months ago where someone shot someone else, and amazingly "no one saw 'nuh-in'!" :S

Good to see that the state of gun control in Britain has made the public safe from being shot in the face, stomach and foot by scumbag criminal rap fans who try to get into concerts without tickets and then get angry that they're for some unfathomable reason told to piss off.

So... Err... No-One EVER shoots anyone else in America?:)

Our army doctors actually spend time in US hospitals (at MoD expense) in order to gain experience in dealing with gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile, in the entire UK we seem to be running at around one shooting per fortnight just now. Can we assume that the enture USA with 5 times the population is running at around 5 shootings per fortnight? Or does that barely cover a single US city?

The reason that Gun-Crime makes the news in the UK is that it IS news.

But just to divert slightly... I know we have US cops on this forum. How many of them have had to use their guns "in action" (so to speak). I just wonder how "indispensible" their personal sidearm is to their doing their overall job? Do they "need" their gun because they're working in a largely armed society (one where gun acquisition is so easy that they must assume a person they're dealing with is armed until proved otherwise)?

Mike.

PS: You're right about "Rap". I just wonder who the idiot was that combined the word "Rap" with the word "Music"?

No youre right in gun free chicago there are many more shootings...more than the rest of our state combined...now the mayor and his hand puppet govenor blojobabitch are trying to ban guns in the state...that way the rest of us will have chicago's extremely low crime rate:S

in my town of 150k there were over 40 murders last year...

guess how many legally owned guns?...

ZERO!:S[:/]>:(

and of those involved in gun murders guess how many were in gangs? 98%!

I'd love to see a statistic that bears out the entire U.K. having only 26 total shootings in a year.

If gun crime making news is because it's rare and thus "newsworthy," then why does it also get lots of coverage in the U.S., where you are saying it is so common as to be nearly beneath notice?

On the one hand you would say that it gets coverage in places where it's rare, but that would not account for why it gets coverage in places where you deem it is not rare.

Probably the same idiot who decided that what they do in those "songs" is "rhyme."

Something abour "rhyming" words like "gat" and "cap" is just, welll, illiterate. :S

Somone probably angry because theres no good UK black artists at the moment. Was funny, had interview on news the other day. Reporter turned round to artist and said:

"maybe people dont want to hear you rapping about the ghetto because you have no idea what its like. You only rap about what you think goes on, if you rapped about going to comprehensive school and doing a paper round at 13 it wouldnt be so exciting"

Classic moment. Loved it.

Do you actually trawl through all the UK crime reports just waiting for one involving a gun though?! Your always right there with a point to make in no time! Haha :D Not that I can argue about this one.

Ill write letter to my supervisor requesting we are armed. Will compliment my really big set of balls nicely having pistol strapped to my thigh. ;)

In all seriousness I think its getting worse and I do expect us to have a routinely armed police force at some point in my career. Its just doing it without havin public outcry which I unfortunately think is gonna take a few more shootings before they get public support on the matter

Explain to me how 12,000 gun carrying rap fans would have prevented this then?

I'm not sure why I bother as you are as like to change your opinion as I am to eat my own head but here are some numbers for you Jeffrey:

Population US - c. 300 million
Population UK - c. 60 million
Therefore US has 5 times the population of UK.

Firearms offences in US in 2003 (source http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/tables/guncrimetab.htm) - 347,705 of which 11,041 were homicides

Firearms offences in UK for 2003 (source http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs04/hosb1004.pdf) - 10,340 of which 68 were homicides

Taking into account population sizes this equates to being 3,247% more likely to be killed with a gun in the US than in the UK - I'm not going to source my maths, just work it out yourself.

Please explain how an instigation of your so obviously effective US gun policy in the UK will have anything other than a negative effect on the rate of gun crime and specifically gun related murders in this country.

good reason not to piss someone off in the US or commit a crime here huh?

What? So if I piss someone off in the US - say by accidently denting their car - then I might get shot and you think thats a good thing?

And you also think that a very high gun murder rate is an incentive not to commit a crime?

What the hell were you actually trying to say?
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

It was in The Palm Beach fuckin' Post, man! In print, in my hand. I didn't have to hunt for it, and I linked to the BBC only because I didn't clip the article to re-type on my computer. Besides, the article in the paper was just a short blurb. More details in the one I linked you to.

The 97 legislation also did not do anything to solve the AIDS problem in Sub-Saharan Africa... but then once again, that was not the probelm it was trying to address.

Was it you who posted that the purpose of this legislation was to stem the overwhelming tide of appx. 300 guns a year from lawful hands to illegal owners?

Despite the fact that estimates put the number of illegal firearms in England at between 1,000,000 and 3,000,000?

So that was worth taking them away from law-abiding owners with no compensation, huh?

Explain to me how this was prevented by the confiscation of a few hundred thousand guns from people who were never gonna use them in a crime?

And before you say, "How do we know that not one of those vetted, law-abiding gun owners was ever gonna use his gun in a crime?" I want to remind you that the same logic might be applied to what you might do with your automobile, or chainsaw, or kitchen knives, and could thus be used as a warrant for their confiscation without compensation.

I find it incredibly disturbing that you seem to find so much pleasure in reporting bad news. I understand that this item fits your agenda, but a little more decorum and little less enthusiam would be far more palatable.

I picture you rubbing your hands and running to your pc, barely being able to contain yourself when you got wind of this.

Well, you picture a little much.

But yeah, when I observe such wrong-headed policy forced onto the lives of civilians and then I observe how it doesn't do any good for that society, I enjoy pointing it out, in the hopes of winning converts to the better way of thinking. That's wrong? Doesn't everyone do that?

The more that goes wrong in a society or a locality where guns are banned and the gun ban does not accomplish any positive benefits, the more "ammunition" there is for pro-gun people to use to show how bad gun bans are.

So .. how many people have you had to shoot to protect yourself with your ever diminishing "Gun rights"

Talk on the internet is cheap.. I think you may find the reality of using your gun to be something far different.

Ever-diminishing? They're ever under attack, but in the last two decades, we've seen 38 states out of 50 go "pro-right-to-carry." Too bad for your side. :P

I use my brains to stay out of situations in which I would have to use my gun, but it is there, and I am competent to use it, should I ever have to.

Guess there goes your characterization of me as a Leftie Liberal huh...

I guess to the Reich Wing anyone who is not an ultra rightie.. is in their mind.. a liberal... tsk tsk...so much for your keen insight.

The funny thing is, I would hardly qualify for "reich wing" even though in your little hate-fantasy I am next to Hitler in my ideology.

LOL!

You know nothing about me but you hate me like as if I raped and killed your baby sister. Amazing.
