rgoper 0 #1 July 21, 2003 Hey Ya'll: I had a business associate of mine e-mail this to me just now, i did the search and danged if i didn't have it. eradication is a simple search, kill and destroy. ***Unfortunately, a virus has been passed on to me because I was in someone's address book that was affected by the virus. My address book WAS infected. Since you are in my address book, there is a good chance you will find it in your computer too. The virus (called jdbgmgr.exe) is not detected by Norton or McAfee antivirus systems. The virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by messenger and by the address book, whether or not you sent e-mail to your contacts. Here's how to check for the virus and how to get rid of it: YOU MUST DO THIS. 1. Go to start, Find or search option. 2. In the file folder option, type the name jdbgmgr.exe 3. Be sure you search your C: drive and all subfolders and any other drives you may have. 4. Click "find now" 5. The Virus has a Teddy Bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT! edited by Skymama just in case anyone follows the instructions before reading the rest of the thread. It most definitely is a hoax.--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

indyz 1 #10 July 21, 2003 Like I already posted, it's a hoax, but unless you plan on debugging Java programs, there isn't any real harm in deleting it, so don't panic if you've already gotten rid of it.

TEB6363 0 #16 July 21, 2003 Even our IT person sent out this note: Be careful of email telling you to look for files on your computer, and delete them. Example : Two Microsoft Windows files many people deleted: JDBGMGR.EXE - A Microsoft JAVA file - Teddy bear icon. SULFNBK.EXE - A Microsoft file used for file back up - Black poison looking icon. If the State computer guys know this, then everyone should know Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
wildblue 4 #17 July 21, 2003 VIRUS WARNING Folks, I don't normally send out virus warnings, but this one is extremely serious. Please read very carefully and take care! If you receive an email entitled "Crazy Times" delete it immediately. Do not open it! Apparently this one is pretty nasty. It will not only erase everything on your hard drive, but it will also delete anything on disks within 20 feet of your computer. It demagnetizes the stripes on ALL of your credit cards. It reprograms your ATM access code, messes up the tracking on your VCR and uses subspace field harmonics to scratch any CD's you attempt to play. It will re-calibrate your refrigerator's coolness settings so all your ice cream melts and your milk curdles. It will program your phone autodial to call only your mother-in-law's number. This virus will mix antifreeze into your fish tank. It will drink all your beer. It will leave dirty socks on the coffee table when you are expecting company. Its radioactive emissions will cause your toe jam and bellybutton fuzz (be honest, you have some) to migrate behind your ears. It will replace your shampoo with Nair and your Nair with Rogaine, all while dating your current boy/girlfriend behind your back and billing their hotel rendezvous to your Visa card. It will cause you to run with scissors and throw things in a way that is only fun until someone loses an eye. It will give you Dutch Elm Disease and Tinea. It will rewrite your backup files, changing all your active verbs to passive tense and incorporating undetectable misspellings, which grossly change the interpretations of key sentences. If the "Crazy Times" message is opened in a Windows 95 environment, it will leave the toilet seat up and leave your hair dryer plugged in dangerously close to a full bathtub. It will not only remove the tags from your mattresses and pillows, but it will also refill your skimmed milk with whole milk. It will replace all your luncheon meat with Spam. It will molecularly rearrange your cologne or perfume, causing it to smell like dill pickles. (Remember Brut 33?) It is insidious and subtle. It is dangerous and terrifying to behold. It is also a rather interesting shade of mauve. These are just a few signs of infection. PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!!it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

sburkart 0 #22 July 21, 2003 I'm in the habit of not using anti-virus software I don't open e-mail attachments from people I don't know and I only download certain types of files from certain types of sites. The result had been the only virus to infect my PC's are sold by MicroSoft, i.e. Windows XP/98 etc., and I've always kept those systems updated. (BTW, I am not inviting anyone to try to infect me here, just pointing out that a few sensible precautions make getting a virus almost on the order of an immaculate infection.) Now, if you're into d/l-ing game scenarios created by third parties and things of that nature, i.e. websites you can't reasonably expect to be looking out for your best interests maybe Noron or McAfee are a condom- then again, maybe not: http://www.vmyths.com/ This site is new to me but the info I've read there has pretty much validated my approach all these years, YMMV.
