How was your saftey day?

Recommended Posts

Well how was it, did you learn anything? Are you actually going to use what you learned? And most of all what do you think at your dz, needs the most attention to train the local skydivers to be safer, so next saftey day can address the needs.

i definitely learned some stuff. it was a good day.. hardly anybody showed up though because of bad weather. the ONE thing that i do want to point out that was kind of bad is that people need to SHUT UP and let the guy teaching the seminar talk. there were some people that kept interrupting the guy trying to talk, so that they could tell everybody about their own experiences, which was fine and all, but they should do that AFTER the guy teaching the seminar is finished. other then that, everything was cool. :)

It was a pretty small Crowd, but our S&TA gave us all a safety Lecture in the Office, did some demonstrations with peoples rigs and we talked about things we can be doing to make it a safer sport...

I can't say I learned a whole lot, but I refreshed things which I've either forgotten or began to slack off on, I've very glad we had our little Seminar...
We were done by 9:30 in the morning (we started at 8ish) and it was kinda funny that clear until 1 people were walking in "Hey, arn't we doing something for safey day...."

Family commitments = not this year.

What is this stuff about safety day just once a year?

We used to have safety meetings every night.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

I saw a few People Who have their heads high in the clouds just blatantly not attend thinking they didn't need it or were safe enough any ways.... Seems like this attitude is what causes people to bounce...[:/]
Sigh, Maybe Next year we can have a big Safety-Extravaganza!!!! With seminars and hot chocolate and little staions you go around to!! Be a Blast!!! :)

It was good, I learned some things but like TribalTalon said, some people need to learn when its the right time to talk. Other then that it was great! Also Bob Sinclare was at our DZ and if I herd the name right and herd the talk correctly he is D-1 license holder.. Thats pretty awesome, nothing to do with safety but still pretty cool!

We had over 120 people show up for safety day at AerOhio. Ended up sending up one Otter load even though it was only about 35-40 degrees. They said that it was -15 at altitude. It wasn't too bad though with a jumpsuit and gloves and fullface helmet. Probably about 15 people or something went up on the load.

At MileHi Skydiving, I think our Safety Day was a success. We had a good turnout and the seminars focused mainly on canopy control. There were seminars on turbulence, fatalites/incident review, emergency procedures, flying a reserve, rig inspection. The first 6 loads' landings were videoed and we reviewed them in slow motion which was really helpful for a visual learner like myself. Also, one of our CReW dogs gave an excellent seminar on canopy control and accident avoidance. The part which I thought was really helpful was maneuvers incorporating a combination of controls such as a right toggle and front left riser; and that I have 8 controls (front and rear risers, toggles, and harness) and what input gives the desired output. I'm looking forward to practicing these manueavers as soon as I get my new rigB|

I got to Perris late in the day, maybe 2:30 (had to work in the morning). Heard one announcement for a canopy safety seminar in "Room G4", wherever the hell that was. I had hoped to see more and get more out of Safety Day and was disappointed. Obviously, per Kris, there was more going on, but I only heard one announcement the entire afternoon. There's always next year though...

60-70 people showed up to SGC this year for our first official safety day. It lasted a good 4-5 hours with the entire crowd breaking down into 3 smaller groups after about an hour and rotating between different stations. Almost everyone got a chance to go in the hanging harness, including some people that really needed it since they were rusty on their procedures. I heard comments about how much people learned, and how it updated some of their info. We did send the Otter up for 2 loads, but then everyone got cold.

I was running the hanging harness station and was surprized at how many people were forgetting the try once, try a second time, try a third time - Reserve procedure for things like a missing hackey. I threw that on in once per group and every group messed it up and tried about 10 times before I yelled "SPLAT!"
Yesterday is history
And tomorrow is a mystery

I went to four of them at Perris.
Emergency, aircraft safety and canopy control, and exit separation.
The aircraft safety one, I was the only one there!
one of them "Bill Von" presented.
Others were, J. Wallace, L.Presse, & Mike ? (instructor of all ratings, commercial pilot, hell of a nice guy!) sorry I forgot your last name!)
I learned a few things..one of them is: I will never jump a extreme eliptical canopy!

And ALWAYS be aware under canopy, even after you land..

At zhills, there were multiple seminars held throughout the day. All seemed to get good attendance.

I went to the Canopy seminar hosted by John LeBlanc. I never miss the opportunity to hear him. I come away with new information every time.

He made an important comment about wingloading. A 190lb person on a 190sq ft canopy is different than a 120lb person flying a 120sq ft canopy. Same wingload, different performance characteristics. Be careful about offering advice on turns, flaring, etc to someone on a smaller, more maneuverable canopy.

Did two practice cutaways. Had some awesome chili and went home early. Way too windy to jump.

Sundevil is right, Lew holds D-1

Bob Sinclare is D 272, but I heard rumors that he gave that number away:S

I went to my home DZ....Skydive San Marcos! Overall I'd say Safety Day was a success! Prizes were given out, beverages & food were served & FUN was had by all. I'll try & download some photos later.
