Dagny 0 #11 October 8, 2004 Eener!! What kind of self-respecting Harry Potter fan hasn't read all the books yet? And gotten on the waiting list for the third movie? And been reading all the tidbits that JK keeps tempting you with? And planning how you'll keep yourself entertained while waiting in the midnight Barnes & Noble line for the next book release? Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali

PhillyKev 0 #15 October 8, 2004 I love fantasy and sci-fi books. This Harry Potter crap, IMO, is just that though, crap. Saw the first movie, hated it. Tried reading the first book, and couldn't get past all the glaring inconsistencies and ridiculousness to finish it. Would probably be cool if I were 10. Best fantasy series ever, IMO, is The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. The vocabulary is a little intense in the first book, had to read it with a dictionary next to me and put it down a couple times before finishing it. But the author mellowed out with the big words on the rest of the series and it's fantastic. Excerpt - 'Foamfollower's question caught him wandering. "Are you a storyteller, Thomas Covenant?" Absently, he replied, "I was, once." "And you gave it up? Ah, that is as sad a tale in three words as any you might have told me. But a life without a tale is like a sea without salt. How do you live?" Covenant folded his arms across the gunwales and rested his chin on them. As the boat moved, Andelain opened constantly in front of him like a bud; but he ignored it, concentrated instead on the plaint of water past the prow. Unconsciously, he clenched his fist over his ring. "I live." "Another?" Foamfollower returned. "In two words, a story sadder than the first. Say no more - with one word you will make me weep." peacefuljeffrey 0 #19 October 9, 2004 QuoteQuoteOhh, why don't they just fuckin' kill ALL of them?! Wow! Now that was peaceful....Jeffrey. They're fictional!! (and annoying) I have read two of them, saw the first movie (which had horrible SFX), and listened to #3 on CD rom. I have to say that the storylines are stupid, IMO. It's like a bad sitcom, where you sit there thinking, "All they have to do is come clean and say this one thing and everything will work out fine," and they don't do it. Hogwart's school is like an asylum that the inmates run -- it's no wonder the kids are always threatened with death of some gnarly sort or another. The adult supervision of them, given the dire and dangerous nature of what they do, is preposterously insufficient. It seems that the great wizards who teach at the school also don't give a shit about the potential dangers of learning magic that the students face. The kids are left to their own devices and so no wonder there is all kinds of shit that happens. I just find it dumb. -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Actually that'll make it easier when they release the film considering the actor is now dead. Dumbledore is a pretty high possibility. Let's also not forget Hagrid...... Let's also not forget Hagrid...... I can't see her killing off Hagrid, but it is a possibility. heh I did have to get used to the new actor in the third movie. His first speech back at Hogwarts was so not Dumbledore. It was too rushed. Dumbledore is thoughtful and very precise when he speaks. *shrug*~skysprite
