I can't nail it down to specific songs, just include stuff from these bands and you should fare quite well: ;)

Tool
Pink Floyd
Genesis
Queen
Incubus
Radiohead
Rush
Queensryche
No Doubt
Perfect Circle
Yes
Sade
Dido
Mozart

What'd I miss...
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Search for "BT" on iTunes.

Download "Ima", "ESCM", "Movement in Still Life", and "Emotional Technology". (all albums)

Errrr...if you don't like melodic trance, then maybe not, but give it a listen, anyway.

one of the best alternative rock albums ever is also available, that would be "Fear" by Toad the Wet Sprocket. Here's the Amazon.com reviews for that one:

Really. Look her up, if you can find any. I was intorduced to her music a few years ago by a very close "friend" in Houston (;)), and she's AWSOME!

what are good blues and jazz songs/artists?
john coltrane?

Yes, but if you're not real into jazz, J.C. can be hard to get an ear around. I'd start with "A Love Supreme" or "My Favorite Things" (the entire albums, you can't just listen to one song with this guy).

Also check out:
Ella Fitzgerald (one of the most amazing stunning expressive voices ever)
Louis Armstrong (likewise)
Miles Davis (best trumpet player of all time)

that should get you barely scratching the surface of jazz.

Blues:
Howlin' Wolf
Muddy Waters
John Lee Hooker
B.B. King
Robert Johnson

start there. Let me know if you want more. :)

If you want some good tunes for when your really fucked up... Darude... anything by Darude.

Also, Chris Brokaw plays guitar like no one else I've heard.

Last month I downloaded the CD from a band called BOND - they're a rock/classical hybrid group - good stuff.

Coltrane is indeed "La" bomb; including the more mellowy album with Johnny Hartman.
Oscar Petterson for his Piano
Charles Mingus (The Clown being my favorite)
Miles Davis
Ben Webster
...

bleh...oakenfold is a hack.

If you want good electronic music, look for Sasha, Digweed, Hybrid, Junkie XL, the aforementioned BT, Way Out West (Intensify is an incredible album), Deep Dish, Sander Kleinenberg...

I'm sure I'll think of more...

OK, you're on:
Daft Punk
Underworld
Crystal Method
Paul Van Dyke
DJ Shadow (and Cut Chemist in their soul 45rpm demolition derby...)
Dimitry from Paris
And yes, I have to admit it, but I like Norman cook (AKA...)
I know, I'm missing genres, and I am fairly old school...
Ahhhhh... the good old days of "Respect"...
