I don't want this put in the Speakers Corner, so no more of my wacky ideas.. (but if the government is telling you that they did something, ie cloning sheep or whatever, then they've been doing it for a long time. Why would they put all their cards on the table. While it THEORETICALLY could fire an AIM-9 Sidewinder, it was not built for air to air combat. It is, F-designation notwithstanding, a bomber. I wouldn't be surprised if the name came about in a similar fashion as the SR-71, which was ORIGINALLY supposed to be the RS-71 until Lyndon Johnson accidentally transposed the letters during the announcement of the programme in '64 (?), and nobody wanted to correct the president, so it was changed.
