billvon 2,435 #27 September 8, 2005 Useless trivia - In 1986, I built a UV EPROM based MP3 player (well, it was a .wav player back then.) We used 27256 EPROM's (about the largest we could get at the time) and recorded at 16KBps. We stuffed 32 of them on one board. That gave us about a minute of recording time, so we searched for a song we could encode that was under a minute. We ended up with "souvenir" by Billy Joel. I remember carrying that board around and showing it to people. A whole song, stored in solid state memory! We figured pretty soon you'd be able to fit an album on a single 6" x 12" PC board. Nowadays, of course, you can fit every CD I've ever owned on a poker chip sized CF card.

Nightingale 0 #48 September 29, 2005 I use my iPod to record law school lectures. It's saved my butt a few times when the teacher's been talking fast and I can't write everything down. Just wait til class is over, and play back iPod, revise notes. I also get the mac to translate my typed notes into audio files (it actually reads the text) and save it to my ipod to listen to in the car before finals. I LOVE my iPod!!! DeepThought 0 #49 September 29, 2005 If you are about to buy one of these at the moment dont. There are currently major problems with them. I was about to buy one untill this story broke. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09/23/ipod_nano_scratching/ http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09/27/ipod_nano_more_scratching/ http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09/28/ipod_nano_apple_admits/ And read the forum on the apple site http://discussions.info.apple.com/[email protected]@.68b94d61 And we know what Apple's past reputation with faults are.... The Apple Cubs that don't have cracks in them.... The iPod battery problem.... (that only exisit in the US,, where a class action has won) If uk byers they will also have to take them to court before they pay up..... buyer beware.... But helll they look cool, as long as you dont intend to use it that is..... -------------------------------------------------- You only have one life, make the most of it.
