Turbines Have Ruined Aviation!!

ACTUALLY I made quite a few jumps from a Beech 18... once upon a time

For some of us, thats our regular plane! lol

That's what I jumped for for much of a season. The plane was sold to another dz. One day there was an odd simultaneous double engine failure while final approach. It would have come up short crashing into powerlines and a highway full of speeding vehicles. Instead it was put fairly gracefully into a field causing only some cuts and bruises to the pilot. If I recall, the failure was caused by a odd mechanical problem ... or you can call it a lack of fuel.

Oops.

It's called clogging the fuel lines....with AIR! ;)

Thanks for the clarification. As you can probably tell,I'm not a pilot so I get some of the the aviation terminolgy wrong.

Thanks again.

Are you talking about radial engines or horiziontal cylinder engines, like on a C-172?

Last line says it all...;)

Round engines smell like God intended flying machines to
smell.

Real aviators use engines that consume hypergolic fuel.

Am I the only one that thinks a turbine engine starting up sounds glorious? :o .. and the smell.... mmmmmm, and the exhaust melting your eyes as you board. All part of the experience :P

Obviously you haven't read this book !

started jumping in 96 at cedar valley, utah. Did my first 546 jumps out of a Beech D-18S N6BA. DZO sold 6BA and "upgraded" to a supercharged T-Bone. Last 2 seasons I spent there we also had the Southern Cross DC-3. Now I am a turbine baby, but LOVED the nostalgia of jumping those old airplanes. They had more personality than most people I know.

Round engines up front and a little wheel on the tail are the coolest. For a short while my old D.Z. had a Beech 18. When it was running everyone came out to watch, on the other hand a turbine engine barely raises an eyebrow anymore. They may be old fashioned technology but radials are very cool. Just to stir up trouble with the other pilots, what would you rather fly a Super Cub or a Cirrus.

Yeah I thought so.See ya at the grass strip.

For flying the Super Cub for getting somewhere in a hurry the Cirrus, although an RV taildragger might be a good ride.
